Chapter 258: Chapter 258: Steph, Do You Like Rai?

Chantelle checked the tracker on her phone. Stephanie’s signal was still inside the room. She realized Stephanie must be using her invisibility cloak.

"Stephanie, come out now, or I’m taking that cloak away."

A few seconds later, Stephanie suddenly appeared to Daniel’s right.

Daniel’s expression turned cold, and a heavy tension filled the room. He was obviously gone mad. Stephanie quickly hid behind Chantelle as she was scared to face him.

Noticing Stephanie’s fear, Daniel softened his expression. He looked at her and asked softly, "Where’s Rai?"

Stephanie pressed the red button on her wrist. In the next second, Railer appeared beside her. freёweɓnovel_com

"Rai, come here. Let me see you," Daniel said. He had raised Railer, but he hadn’t really been there for him. Most of the time, it was Kate who looked after the boy.

That alone made Daniel feel really guilty. That’s why he was always extra gentle with Railer. After what happened today, he just wanted to comfort him even more.

Railer walked over to Daniel without showing any emotion. He looked down at his clothes and said, "Steph gave it to me."

"Steph, thank you," Daniel said, feeling happy that the kids were getting along.

Stephanie pouted and mumbled, "This has nothing to do with you."

Before Daniel could say anything, Stephanie hugged Chantelle’s arm and let out a yawn.

"Mommy, I want to sleep with you." Just a second ago, she was cold toward Daniel, but now she was all sweet with Chantelle.

Chantelle understood what she was up to. She picked Stephanie up and kissed her on the cheek. "Okay, you can sleep with me tonight."

"Mommy, me too!" Kane jumped in right away. He always loved being part of things.

"Okay, let’s all sleep together tonight." Chantelle hadn’t spent much time with them since coming back to Easthan. She missed them a lot.

Daniel hesitated, unsure what to say to the three of them.

Railer looked at Stephanie and Kane with envy. But unlike Kane, Railer didn’t dare ask to sleep with Chantelle.

Daniel asked, "Rai, do you want to sleep with me tonight?"

"No. A man should be independent. Good night, Daddy." Railer nodded and went back to his room with his new gear.

Daniel stood there alone with his heart aching.

Well, this is what I deserve.

Chantelle hugged Stephanie and went back to the room.

Kane quickly headed to the bathroom to take a shower.

Noticing Stephanie looked tired, Chantelle asked worriedly, "Are you okay?"

"Mommy, are you going to live here with that man? Aren’t you going back to Carcosa? What about our old home?" Stephanie’s voice was soft and shaky like she was about to cry.

"I haven’t decided what to do yet."

Before going back to Easthan, Chantelle had promised Stephanie she would finish everything quickly and come back to them. She said she would never leave them again.

But now, Chantelle felt like she might break that promise.

Stephanie held Chantelle’s neck tightly, scared she might be left behind. "Will you love them more than me one day?"

Chantelle pinched her cheek and said, "In my heart, nothing matters more than you, Kane, and Rai. Steph, do you like Rai?"

Stephanie nodded, then shook her head again.

"Stephanie, having a brother means you have one more person who loves you. It doesn’t mean Mommy will love you less." Chantelle didn’t want the kids to fight over jealousy.

Stephanie nodded. "I know. I love Rai but I don’t like that man."

"Is it because he got mad at you?" Chantelle noticed Stephanie’s feelings about Daniel had changed since the fire.

Even if she couldn’t fully accept him, she still liked to tease him. It wasn’t that she hated him completely.

"He hurt Mommy. The only person he cares about is the son he raised. He didn’t want me to hurt Rai. That’s why he was so angry." Tears filled her eyes as she said this.

Daniel’s face quickly changed when she showed her vulnerability and scared expression earlier.

That’s when she knew this man wasn’t the one who raised her. He wouldn’t spoil her like Chantelle or her godfather did.

He would blame her and yell at her anytime for the sake of his own son.

Stephanie had acted in many movies as a child. She was used to making up dramatic stories in her head.

Her anger toward Daniel only became stronger.

"He’s not like that, Stephanie. He was just worried. Think about it. We just got through a tough time. He’s scared of losing us. When he found out you and Rai were missing, he got scared. That’s why he acted like that."

"It’s his first time meeting me. He won’t love me like he loves you all. He blames me for Rai going missing." She wiped her tears away.

Chantelle sighed, seeing how stubborn her daughter was. She then pulled Stephanie into a tight hug. "You’re staying here for a while. You’ll see how much he cares if you talk to him. Mommy is telling you this now. No matter what happens, no matter how many people I have around me, you are one of Mommy’s most important people. I love you."

"I love you too, Mommy!" Stephanie kissed her on the cheek.

Kane jumped onto the bed after his shower. "Look, Mommy! I can do cartwheels!"

He showed off by doing somersaults easily on the bed. Chantelle was surprised.

"You’re like a monkey, Kane!" Stephanie said. Her sadness faded for a moment as she laughed.

Daniel stood outside the door, hearing their happy laughter. He raised his hand to knock but then let it fall back to his side.

He didn’t want to interrupt their joyous moment.

"Ashton is on the phone, Mr. Daniel." Mr. Charles approached him, holding a phone.

Daniel quickly signaled him to be quiet. He took the phone and stepped away from the room.

"Sir, we burned Joseph’s mother’s belongings. He took the bait and he’s now trapped."

"Good. You did well. Get some rest."

"Yes, Mr. Wilson."

Daniel hung up and stood by the window with his eyes glinting coldly. He almost lost his wife and kids today. He would make Joseph pay for what he did. He hoped Joseph had escaped. Dying in the fire was too easy for such a terrible man.

His phone rang again.

"Mr. Wilson, this is Rowan Nelsen."

"How can I help you?" Daniel said. He was thankful Rowan saved Chantelle and the children. He didn’t really need his help but would remember Rowan’s kindness.

Still, he hadn’t forgotten the time Rowan lied about not knowing where Chantelle was.

"Camille is hurt. She has a fever and is delirious. She’s asking for you. Could you come to the hospital for a bit, Mr. Wilson?"
