Mr. CEO's Ex-Wife: A Cunning Comeback-Chapter 288: I Never Asked You To Take Me In
Chapter 288: Chapter 288: I Never Asked You To Take Me In
Chantelle frowned and shot them a sharp glare. At the same time, she noticed Camille held Rowan’s sleeve and whispered something in his ear. But he quickly scolded her, and she sat back down with a sour look on her face.
Still, Camille didn’t even bother hiding the hatred in her eyes. She was staring at Stephanie like she wanted to devour her on the spot.
Chantelle secretly signaled the bodyguards to stay alert. None of the Nelsens were allowed to get anywhere near Stephanie today.
The bodyguard followed the order, but he had something to report too.
"Ms. Chantelle, we found a suspicious model acting strangely backstage. We caught her and questioned her. She admitted Camille sent her to mess up the show and cause a scene. Mr. Jones suggested letting Stephanie walk earlier than planned to avoid any trouble."
Chantelle nodded. Now she understood why Camille looked so angry. Her plan had failed.
"Anything else?" Chantelle asked with a frown. The bodyguard looked conflicted.
He finally said, "It was Roman who noticed the model first."
"Roman? What’s he doing here?" Chantelle was surprised. It had been a long time since she heard that name. She almost forgot about her father, who always seemed to cause trouble.
"He said he just came to watch your show. He promised not to cause any problems. Look, he’s right over there."
Chantelle looked in the direction the bodyguard pointed. Sure enough, Roman was standing near a trash bin with his arms crossed. He was dressed in black, blending into the crowds.
When he noticed Chantelle looking at him, he gave her a small, regretful smile and stepped back into the shadows. He looked like he was scared she might get mad at him.
Chantelle knew her father had been through a lot lately. He nearly died after Ruby and James went after him. People had even started to mock him.
She had underestimated how tough he really was. Roman looked thinner now, and he seemed much older than the last time she saw him.
"Keep an eye on him," she told the bodyguard. "Let me know who he talks to, no matter who it is."
Chantelle was still trying to figure out why Roman had come. But then, someone unexpectedly showed up in front of her.
It was Daniel.
He always looked cold and distant, but now he was snapping photos of Stephanie like he was in a trance.
His bodyguards were clearing out the reporters blocking his view.
The reporters saw him taking pictures and got the wrong idea. They thought he didn’t want anyone else to photograph Stephanie.
They quickly packed away their cameras.
Getting a scoop was great, but staying alive mattered more.
"Wait, is that Mr. Wilson? I didn’t think he’d be so soft when it comes to his daughter," Thea said with her arms crossed.
Philip added, "Well, look at how he treats Chantie. He’s clearly the type who loves his family a lot."
Chantelle suddenly interrupted them, changing the topic. "Why are we even holding this fashion show?"
Thea answered proudly, "To promote the boutique, of course. And look how great it turned out."
"Then why do you think I hired so many reporters? Now they’re all deleting their photos," Chantelle said with a sigh.
The reporters were terrified. The moment Daniel gave them a sharp glare, they rushed to delete every photo they had of Stephanie.
It was like his glare cast a spell over all of them.
If this kept going, only Daniel’s camera would have all the pictures of Stephanie on the runway.
Thea finally got it. She and Chantelle both turned to look at Philip.
Philip flinched and started waving his hands. "You will tell him yourself. I plan to live longer in this life."
"We’re not that close to Mr. Wilson. You know that," Thea said, trying to push Philip into doing it.
Chantelle nodded. She had no plans to confront Daniel herself. She knew exactly how he was. He was probably excited inside and would never let anyone else take a single photo of his daughter.
If she tried to talk to him, he’d just make some ridiculous demand in return before backing down.
Philip quickly shook his head. "Are you serious? Out of the three of us, Chantie knows him best. If even she’s scared to stop him, how could I possibly do it?"
Thea smacked him on the head. "Useless! And here I thought taking you here would actually pay off!"
"I never asked you to take me in!"
The two of them started bickering right away. Thea chased after Philip, and within seconds, both of them vanished into the crowd.
Chantelle saw it as a good sign. They hadn’t seen each other in a few days, but they were clearly getting closer.
She took a deep breath. It looked like she’d have to deal with Daniel herself.
The worst he could do was ask for a hug or a kiss. She could handle that.
Just as she was about to move forward, someone stood in front of her.
"Ms. Chantelle," the person said, blocking her path.
Chantelle looked up and felt nervous. It was that strange pair Rowan had brought with him.
They were staring at her again, and it gave her chills.
She noticed Camille wasn’t with them. Chantelle glanced over at their seats to check.
"Camille got something on her skirt. I asked the bodyguard to help her get a change of clothes," Rowan explained as if he knew what she was thinking.
It felt like Camille always had some issue with her outfit.
Chantelle gave a small smile and asked flatly, "Mr. Nelsen, is there something you need from me?"
She used to get along well with Rowan. But Camille had messed with her life too many times. Even if it wasn’t Rowan’s fault, Chantelle didn’t feel like dealing with anyone from the Nelsen family anymore.
"I’m really interested in your boutique. Ms. Chantelle, would you consider a partnership with the Nelsens?"
"This boutique belongs to my friend," she said, pointing to Thea, who was now crouching behind a few people, clearly spying on them. "If you’re looking for a business deal, talk to her."
"Is that so?" Rowan replied. "Marco told me to speak with you. He said that as long as I..."
"Mr. Nelsen, Marco wants to bring his Camelot and Hale brand into the local market. You’d benefit more by working with him. So why are you bringing this up with me?" Chantelle cut him off.
She didn’t want to hear any weak excuse from him. She could already tell Rowan had some hidden reason for approaching her.
