Mr. CEO's Ex-Wife: A Cunning Comeback-Chapter 301: His Wife Is Praising Another Woman
Chapter 301: Chapter 301: His Wife Is Praising Another Woman
"Do you know Ms. Law?" Chantelle asked curiously.
"I used to invest in one of her projects," Daniel said shortly. There was even a hint of excitement on his face as he said it.
Chantelle, not picking up on it, replied, "Oh, I see. So that’s how you know her. You must’ve seen her talent up close, right? She’s amazing! The moment I met her, I knew I’d like her. We’re lucky to have her as our Ambassador for Philanthropy!"
Daniel had expected her to look jealous. He didn’t expect this kind of reaction from her.
Watching his wife praise another woman so openly, he let out a frustrated sigh.
"I’m heading into the hall now. Ms. Law came alone, and I didn’t want her to feel left out. I’ll go talk to her. Watch the kids, okay?" Chantelle said as she pushed the three children toward him and hurried away.
When Chantelle entered the banquet hall, she was surprised to see Natalia talking to Camille.
Back when Camille was trying to ruin Natalia’s reputation, the atmosphere was full of tension. Maybe they had patched things up since then. That would explain why they seemed so friendly with each other now.
Camille was wearing a yellow evening gown that made her look young. She didn’t have her usual arrogant look.
"Ms. Chantelle," Natalia called out from a distance.
Natalia didn’t know many people at the event. So even though she suspected Camille might be up to something, she still felt glad when she came over to talk.
But even though the conversation had just begun, Natalia quickly realized it was hard to really talk about anything meaningful with Camille.
Camille kept talking about fashion or the idea of the Nelsen and Law families working together on business topics that Natalia didn’t care about. Most of what Camille said made her want to laugh, but she couldn’t do that in public. It took all her effort to control herself.
When she suddenly saw Chantelle, it felt like she had seen her savior.
Chantelle walked over with a glass of wine. She joked around with Natalia and politely greeted Camille.
"Thank goodness you’re here. I honestly wouldn’t know what to do in this place without you," Natalia said. She had talked to Chantelle a few times before, so she naturally felt more comfortable around her. Finally, she felt relieved that Chantelle had come.
So, Natalia made a comment without really thinking about it.
Even though it seemed harmless, someone could easily twist her words.
Camille’s face darkened the moment she heard it. From her point of view, Natalia was still holding a grudge. She assumed Natalia was just pretending to be close to Chantelle to get back at her.
Camille felt annoyed. After all, she was the one who had made the effort to talk to Natalia first.
Chantelle noticed Camille’s expression had changed and didn’t want her to vent her anger on Natalia. So, she quickly joked to break the tension, "Our brilliant scientist, you really need to come out and socialize more. If you feel embarrassed in places like this, what will you do when you win the Scientist Prize and have to go on stage?"
Natalia nodded and said, "You’re right. I really should go out more."
She spent most of the year buried in her lab, so even though she wasn’t afraid of people, she still felt a bit out of place.
That part of her personality made her appear calm on the outside, but deep inside, she was anxious and restless.
"Ms. Law seems so confident and graceful. I didn’t realize you were feeling anxious. I’m sorry I didn’t notice," Camille said, looking at Natalia with an apologetic expression.
Chantelle was almost too surprised to hide her reaction. Something completely unexpected seemed to be unfolding.
"I’ve been through this so many times since I was a kid. Of course, I had to get used to it. I just act like it doesn’t bother me, so it’s normal that you didn’t notice," Natalia said with a smile.
She wasn’t the type to hold grudges. Even though Camille had once spread false rumors about her online, Natalia didn’t feel bitter about it. Now that Camille was trying to make peace, she didn’t want to push her away.
"You’re really on another level. I should learn from you," Camille said with a strange tone. It almost sounded like she was calling Natalia a good actress who knew how to fake it well.
But Natalia didn’t pick up on it. She even patted Camille’s shoulder and said politely, "You’re still young. After you go through a few more rough patches, you’ll understand what I mean."
Camille forced a smile. The Ambassador for Philanthropy award was something she had dreamed of having. But to Natalia, it was just another hardship she had to get through.
Natalia was clearly showing off!
"Ms. Law, try this cake. It’s pretty good," Chantelle quickly cut in. She didn’t want Natalia to accidentally upset Camille. At the same time, she was worried Camille might cause another scene.
This was only their second time hosting the charity dinner. If anything went wrong again, the Charity Association’s reputation would really suffer.
Natalia took the cake and looked at it. "This one has a pretty unique design."
The cake was shaped like a pig. No wonder it looked different.
Chantelle had just picked up a random cake and didn’t expect it to look like that. It turned out to be the one Stephanie had specially asked the baker to make. It looked exactly like a pig, and even the texture was the same.
The baker thought the pig-shaped cake was a fun idea. He figured it would make the event more lively, so he added it to the menu.
"I thought you’re supposed to be on the dancefloor later? Isn’t it bad to eat this now?" Camille, still lingering around, chimed in again. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓
"It’s fine. I’m actually too skinny," Natalia replied casually, taking a bite of the cake. She gave Chantelle a thumbs-up, signaling it tasted good.
Camille had no way to hide her annoyance. She’d been dieting for weeks just to look good at this event. There was no way she believed Natalia didn’t care about her figure. To her, Natalia was clearly sarcastic towards her.
Actually, Camille wasn’t fat at all. She just looked a bit bigger because of her wider bone structure, and the evening dress she wore was quite revealing. That made her look larger than she really was, especially standing next to someone like Natalia.
