Mr. CEO's Ex-Wife: A Cunning Comeback-Chapter 310: You Have To Trust Me
Chapter 310: Chapter 310: You Have To Trust Me
After Chantelle rescued Nancy and the young man, she took them to a newly bought apartment.
"You both can stay here for now. Take your time and figure out what you want to do next," she said.
The young man glanced at Nancy with concern. Even though she looked messy, there was a huge strength in her eyes.
She had worked like a servant in the Morgan family for years, taking care of Brian’s parents and managing Morgan Corp. And this was how they treated her?
That was the moment she realized she didn’t owe them kindness anymore.
"Ms. Chantelle, I heard Ruby Bently is your stepmother. How do you want her to die?"
Nancy had read about Chantelle and Ruby’s messy relationship in the papers.
She assumed Chantelle had helped her so many times just to get even with Ruby.
"You’re a smart woman, Ms. Trench. I’m not asking for much. I’ll be satisfied if Ruby gets kicked out of the house."
Of course, Chantelle wanted more than that. But she won’t tell Nancy about her plan.
Chantelle knew that Nancy’s hatred toward Ruby and the Morgan family ran deeper than whatever Nancy felt.
"You’ll just have to wait and see," Nancy said coldly.
Chantelle was pleased with that answer. She gave a small nod, then asked, "Do you have the full employee list of Morgan Corp?"
"There are at least ten thousand employees in the company. Are you looking for someone specific?" Nancy asked. She had worked there for many years and handled most of the internal affairs, but she didn’t own many shares.
"I’d like a copy of the list if you have one. That would mean a lot to me." Chantelle didn’t answer her question.
Nancy nodded and said she would send the list as soon as she could.
But truthfully, aside from knowing Chantelle was Daniel Wilson’s wife, she didn’t know much about her. When Chantelle asked for the list, a certain person came to Nancy’s mind.
Just as Chantelle was about to leave, Nancy stopped her.
"Ms. Chantelle, the general manager of Morgan Corp is Connor Yates. He used to be Wesley Wilson’s best employee until he was kicked out. He’s been working for Morgan Corp ever since."
Chantelle had been questioning why Joseph was so determined to work with Morgan Corp. He had even gone out of his way to plant Ruby inside the company.
Chantelle hadn’t expected to get such a surprising piece of information from Nancy.
"Got it. If you ever need anything, you can reach out to Calvin," she said and told Calvin to hand Nancy his name card.
Nancy was really thankful.
After leaving the apartment, Chantelle planned to head to Silver Crest Global District to ask Daniel about Connor. But she didn’t expect to find Roman lying there, covered in blood.
"Ms. Chantelle, are we saving him?" Calvin asked, hesitating.
She nodded. Calvin quickly picked Roman up and rushed him into the car.
At the hospital, the doctor ran a full check-up and found several serious knife wounds. If they had been even a little late, Roman wouldn’t have made it.
When Roman finally woke up, he devoured his food while Chantelle sat nearby, watching him. To her, he felt like a stranger now.
He had never shown her any love growing up. Instead, he let Ruby and her daughter treat her terribly. As she got older, he betrayed her again and again because of money.
There was nothing left that felt like family between them.
Still, Roman had been trying to reach her lately.
Was it just for money, or was there another reason?
"Didn’t I already give you money last time? What happened to it?" Chantelle asked, sitting on a chair and staring at him.
Back at the fashion show, Roman had exposed a scheme involving a model with bad intentions. The event went smoothly because of him. Chantelle didn’t thank him in person, but she had Calvin send him a reward.
One million dollars should’ve lasted him for a while.
"Your Uncle Kingsley got seriously sick. I used the money for his treatment," Roman said, then finished the chicken soup and wiped his mouth with his shirt sleeve.
He no longer looked like the powerful man he used to be.
"Spending money on someone else? That’s a shock," Chantelle said with a cold smile. From what she knew, Roman Bently only knew how to take. He’d never give a cent more than he had to.
It really surprised her that he gave a whole million dollars to his butler for medical bills.
"Kingsley got sick because of me. He stood by me when things were bad. Now that he needs help, I can’t just walk away," Roman mumbled as he glanced at Chantelle.
Chantelle hadn’t expected to hear something like that from this man.
"Also, why were you near my house? Did you want something from me?" That was all Chantelle wanted to know.
"I didn’t mean to collapse there. I came to find you. Not for money, but to give you something I took from Ruby. I did try to steal some cash from her, but turns out she’s even more broke than I am now," Roman said, pulling out a document from behind him.
Chantelle flipped through the first few pages. It was a business proposal for a makeup product.
Morgan Corp was planning to pour their money and manpower into creating a new cosmetics brand. Their goal was to take business away from Wilson Group Of Companies in that area.
Chantelle could tell the proposal was impressive. If they moved forward with it, it could turn into a big success.
"I also overheard Ruby say something Joseph told her. Once the plan starts, he’ll take over the Wilson Group of Companies businesses while Daniel is distracted," Roman said seriously, looking straight at Chantelle.
He didn’t want to admit he was wrong or say sorry, but he was trying to win her back.
He was tired of being broke and hungry. He knew Chantelle was his only way out.
What happened today proved it. Without her, he would’ve died on the street.
To him, Chantelle was his only way back to a life of comfort.
Chantelle stayed expressionless, and Roman couldn’t tell if she believed him or not. He hit his chest in frustration and said, "Everything I said is true. You have to trust me!"
"Get some rest," Chantelle replied, keeping her thoughts to herself.
Soon after, she and Calvin walked out of the hospital room.
