Mr. CEO's Ex-Wife: A Cunning Comeback-Chapter 354: I Can Walk On My Own
Chapter 354: Chapter 354: I Can Walk On My Own
Chantelle didn’t dare open the window. She spoke through the glass, "I’m fine. I already called the towing company."
"Really? There’s still a signal out here? I thought there wasn’t," the man said, walking to the front of her car. He stared at her through the windshield. Chantelle’s heart sank when she saw the gun on his waist.
"What’s going on?" another man got out of the SUV, holding a big wrench.
The two men exchanged a look, and then one of them slammed the wrench hard against her car.
Chantelle jumped out and ran toward the forest nearby.
But the men chased after her and caught up quickly in an open clearing.
"Wow, a pretty Demacian," one of them said.
"Finally, our trip tonight wasn’t a waste," the other man said.
They walked toward Chantelle, step by step. She knew they were strong and dangerous. Fighting them wasn’t an option.
"What do you want? Money?" she asked, trying to buy some time.
One of the men smirked and reached for her face. "We want everything from you. Everything."
Chantelle grabbed his hand. "Can we do it in the car?" she asked, hoping to lure them back and take them down one at a time.
But the man didn’t agree. He suddenly tore at her clothes and told his partner to come over.
Chantelle twisted the ring on her finger and drove it hard into the man’s neck. Blood spurted out.
The other man froze for a second, then pulled out a gun and fired at her.
Chantelle ducked and dodged the bullets as best as she could. The shots kept coming. Just when she thought she could escape from them, a pair of bright headlights flashed from behind.
The man turned to look. Chantelle grabbed a handful of sand and flung it into his eyes.
She then sprinted toward the light. A tall figure was walking toward her through the glow. As they passed each other, she wrapped her arms around him.
The way he moved, and the scent he carried was all familiar. And just like that, she felt safe again.
A gunshot rang out behind her, and two bodyguards rushed past.
"It’s safe now," Daniel said, tossing the gun to one of the guards as he lifted Chantelle into his arms.
"You..." Chantelle was stunned. She didn’t expect him to show up in Carcosa. She still didn’t understand why he stopped keeping his distance. But when she saw his cold, serious eyes, she didn’t dare to ask.
Daniel carried her to his Land Rover. He fastened her seatbelt, then got in and started driving without saying a word.
The tension in the car was thick. Chantelle slowly adjusted her breathing without even realizing it.
They didn’t speak the whole way to the villa.
Daniel got out first. Chantelle quickly tried to open her door, but it was locked.
She watched as Daniel walked over, opened the door, and picked her up.
"I can walk on my own," she said, trying to get down.
But Daniel gave her a sharp look.
She was utterly baffled. She had faced dangerous men earlier without flinching, yet one look from Daniel made her hesitate. She felt annoyed with herself for being scared.
"Daddy! Mommy!"
The three kids had seen them on the surveillance camera and came running.
Kane was especially excited. He jumped around and swiftly held Daniel’s sleeve.
"Daddy, you’re so slow! What took you so long to find us?"
"If you came any later, we wouldn’t even have a home to come back to," Railer said, clearly exaggerating.
Stephanie nodded in agreement.
Chantelle looked confused.
How was it considered late? It hadn’t even been a full day. Seriously. Their dad was the CEO of the Wilson Group Of Companies. Of course, he was busy.
"You all should go to bed now," Daniel said. "Daddy and Mommy need to talk."
He kept his arm around Chantelle and didn’t let her go.
The three kids nodded and started heading to their room. But Kane stopped at the door and then ran back to Daniel.
"Daddy, don’t be mad at Mommy," he said. "She told Grandma you’re her husband. She and our Godfather are just friends."
Stephanie followed and added, "Mommy didn’t bring you to Carcosa because she didn’t want you to be in danger."
Daniel looked down at Chantelle. She acted like she hadn’t heard anything.
His expression finally softened.
Railer walked over and said seriously, "Daddy, if you keep getting angry, you’ll lose Mommy."
Daniel carried Chantelle into the bedroom after each of the kids gave him their little warning.
He placed her on the bed, then stood in front of her while staring at her in silence.
Chantelle tried to get up. She didn’t like the way he was looking at her. But Daniel pushed her back down.
She tried again, and he stopped her once more. After a few times, Chantelle lost her temper.
"What are you doing?" she snapped, shoving his hand away and trying to leave the bed.
But Daniel suddenly leaned closer. He pinned both her hands above her head with one hand and held her waist with the other to keep her from moving.
The way he held her made her feel nervous.
"What do you want?" she asked, eyes filled with warning. If he dared to try anything, she was ready to fight back.
Daniel held her waist even tighter. Chantelle let out a soft groan from the touch, and he immediately softened.
He let out a light sigh, lowered his head, and looked into her eyes. Their faces were so close that they could feel each other’s breath.
"As expected, you’re only obedient in bed."
Chantelle’s face turned red right away. Daniel seemed to enjoy her reaction. He poked her cheek and muttered, "Back then, you’d ignore me for no reason but always listened in bed."
Chantelle’s thoughts drifted back to six years ago.
She wasn’t unhappy without reason. She wanted his love. She wanted him to notice her, to praise her, to care.
But he never did. He didn’t love her, didn’t care about her.
Still, every time she felt down, he always noticed. And instead of coaxing her, he’d just ask coldly why she was acting that way.
If she didn’t answer him, he would carry her into the room and sleep with her again and again.
At first, she thought maybe it meant he liked her but just didn’t know how to show it.
But later, she realized it wasn’t like that at all. He was just using her, venting out his anger and humiliating her.
