Mr. CEO's Ex-Wife: A Cunning Comeback-Chapter 476: You’d Better Appreciate Me
The director and Stephanie exchanged a look, and Stephanie quickly covered her own eyes as Daniel leaned down as if he were about to kiss Chantelle.
Hey, Mr. Wilson, seriously. Your child is still here. Get a room.
The answer was no. My wife is not going to let me touch her when we get home. Daniel thought to himself.
"You really are an all-rounder, Mr. Wilson! Your acting skills are great." The director finally walked over to interrupt them.
That had been painful to watch.
Daniel’s expression shifted as he turned around. He looked down at the director. "Are you sure I don’t need to try again?"
The director’s heart was pounding. Why can’t you just kiss her when you get home? Stop making my life so hard.
"I-I guess you could try again?" the director replied weakly.
Daniel nodded, satisfied, but Chantelle wasn’t into it. She stepped down from the stage. "What audition allows retries? If you can do it, you can do it. If you can’t, you’re out. Have some integrity, Director."
My integrity means nothing here, he muttered silently. With a big smile, he said, "Mr. Wilson is a busy man. Maybe we should just film this scene today."
"Sure thing." Daniel walked back to the set quickly, making sure to bring his daughter with him.
"How did Daddy do?" he asked her.
She tilted her head, thought for a moment, then answered, "Daddy’s really good at it. You were just like the perverts on the street."
Her words left him speechless. What a role he had chosen for himself.
If it meant acting with his wife, he would do anything.
The staff started setting up the scene while the crew brought Daniel a change of clothes. It took some time to find something that suited his character and still looked fairly new.
Daniel wrinkled his nose at it. He had never worn clothes that other people had used before.
"Is this what you usually wear when you film here?"
Stephanie shook her head. "Auntie Thea prepares my clothes. She and Mommy made them."
Daniel nodded. It made sense. His and Chantelle’s visit had been too sudden for anyone to prepare proper clothes for him.
He went to the director. "Call off the shooting today. We’ll do it tomorrow."
The director was stunned, but he looked completely relieved to hear his order.
"Of course. We’ll go according to your schedule, Mr. Wilson."
Chantelle shot him a suspicious look when he said, "Have Thea prepare us some clothes."
"If you don’t like it, just forget it. You’re a special case anyway," Chantelle whispered.
Daniel pinched her cheek and laughed. "Who do you think I’m doing this for?"
She turned her head away to dodge his hand. Then the three of them burst into laughter.
The director watched their figures in the distance and felt a stab of envy. He had buried himself in work his whole life. He had money and fame, but no family. There was no one waiting for him. No one to share his bed.
He wasn’t like Daniel, who never fooled around and treated his wife and children like treasures. Work-life balance only existed when there were no problems at home.
Back in the car, Chantelle called Kane. She felt relieved when she heard that both her sons were fine. She had decided to join the crew so she could look after Stephanie and lure out the person behind the strange incidents.
Daniel had probably already figured that out, but chose to let her continue. He compromised by staying with her. That was why she didn’t try to send him away, even though he lingered around the set.
"Charmed by your husband?" Daniel, who had been staring straight ahead, suddenly turned his head to look at her.
Her heart jumped when she realized she’d been caught staring, and she quickly looked away.
"Stop trying to be clever. Keep your eyes on the road."
"Daddy should stop being a CEO and become an actor, okay? Then we can act together on set." Stephanie leaned forward excitedly.
Life would be perfect if their whole family could stay together.
Chantelle snorted and teased, "That sounds like a great idea. Mr. Wilson’s acting skills are so amazing. He’d make a great actor."
"I’d like to, but who would dare cast me in a role?" he replied casually.
He was right. He only got the part because Chantelle was involved, and she knew the director well. Daniel had insisted on taking the role himself. Otherwise, the whole production wouldn’t run smoothly.
If Daniel played the male lead, how would the other actors even compete with him? The entire show would fall apart.
What director would willingly make things difficult for Daniel? Everyone still valued their careers.
Just thinking about it made Stephanie and Chantelle shake their heads. It was a terrifyingly bad idea.
"You should laugh more, Daddy. You’re less scary when you smile," Stephanie suggested.
Daniel stayed silent, so Chantelle explained, "Your father runs a big corporation. If he smiled all the time, no one would take him seriously. You know how directors are always grumpy and yell at actors? It’s not because they enjoy yelling. It’s because no one would listen otherwise."
"Daddy has a good temper. Daddy didn’t yell at Uncle Philip when he blew up the lab." To her, he was the kindest father.
Daniel raised a brow at Chantelle, as if to say, Look at me. I’m such a great husband. You’d better appreciate me.
Chantelle was left speechless.
It was a fleeting moment. The road ahead suddenly collapsed, leaving Daniel no time to stop the car.
The car was about to plunge straight into a pit. Even if they survived, they would be crippled for life.
Daniel yanked the steering wheel, trying to throw Chantelle out of the car as it turned, but she was faster. She fired a wire toward a pole by the roadside.
She quickly tied the other end of the wire to her seat.
Their car ended up hanging in midair. The other cars on the road weren’t as lucky as they were. Their cars plunged into the hole and were smashed to pieces.
"Move, Steph!" Chantelle’s wire wouldn’t hold much longer. She had to get Stephanie out of the car immediately.
Daniel thought Chantelle would understand what he had been trying to do.
"You told me I’m not allowed to put myself in danger to lure the enemy out. And now you’re doing the same thing. Stop throwing empty words at me in the future," she grunted as she hurried toward Ashton’s car.
She opened the door and froze.
