Chapter 289: Chapter 289: Like a Princess

There was a police officer hiding on the other side of the car, observing the situation. Finally, he seized the opportunity. Seeing Ethan Sterling’s defenses were weak, he suddenly lunged forward, intending to tackle Ethan to the ground.

They indeed didn’t dare to shoot at Ethan, but they could restrain him first and wait for the President to make a decision.

Otherwise, if Seraphina Redgrave was really taken away by him, they could never make up for it.

Seraphina was facing the officer and saw him rushing out with ill intent towards Ethan, her expression changed dramatically, "Cub!"

Hearing the call, Cub, hiding under the car, immediately dashed out, directly pouncing on that person and, extending its long claws, left several deep scratches on his leg.

The officer was entangled by Cub, unable to deal with Ethan momentarily.

Ethan looked at the officer struggling with Cub with a disdainful smile and then turned to Seraphina, extending his hand, "Come on, can you still walk?"

His voice was so gentle it nearly dripped with warmth.

Each word reached Seraphina’s ears, her throat dry, nose stinging.

After a long while, she found her voice to speak, "How did you manage this?"

How did you bypass Nathan Ayers and Miles Harrington’s tight blockade?

How did you end up in this state?

"..."

Ethan just looked at her, not answering this question.

"Are you aware? If I really leave with you today, you’re done for."

Seraphina’s voice was hoarse.

Now, all the tycoons couldn’t wait to get rid of her, and if he wanted to protect her, it would cost him dearly.

She wanted him to leave, as she had ruthlessly said on the phone before, but every time she saw the blood on Ethan, the words she wanted to say always got stuck in her throat, unable to form a single syllable.

Ethan lifted his left hand, which was particularly bloodied, and said somewhat sadly, "Seraphina, my fingernail broke. It hurts so much."

"..."

Hearing this, Seraphina’s lips trembled slightly. Her gaze focused on his finger, finding the tip of his ring finger bruised, where it should have been covered by a fingernail, now a bloody mess.

Seraphina reached out, wanting to touch him, but the distance was too far. She couldn’t reach him, and tears slipped down quietly, the pain in her heart surpassing what she felt during previous torments.

Her eyes filled with anger, she asked Ethan, "Are you crazy? How did you end up like this?"

Who could tell her what exactly he went through?

"That’s right, I’m crazy."

Without thinking, Ethan directly admitted it, a smile spreading across his face. It was a smile Seraphina had rarely seen, so gentle, so captivating.

Now, all guns were aimed at Seraphina.

But Seraphina was unafraid; she didn’t hesitate, lifting her foot toward Ethan, the chains on her feet heavy, her steps slow and burdensome.

Ethan had his hand extended to her, waiting for her to arrive.

Not far away, two luxury cars screeched to a halt at the roadside, Miles Harrington and Nathan Ayers jumped out one after another. The first thing they saw was this scene unfolding now.

"..."

Miles Harrington clutched his head in agony; he truly didn’t expect this, "How did he return to the country?"

How on earth did he come back!

Ronan Yates, Rory, and James Lynch took the lead, driving to a concealed spot, after getting out, the three of them led the way into the forest, heading toward the destination.

After roughly mapping out the route, they returned the way they came and led the others inside slowly.

After not too long, they arrived at their destination. In the distance, they saw a grand and magnificent building, and a group of police officers in Directorate uniforms, all pointing their guns at the person in the center.

Their Seraphina stood at the center right now.

The once vivid and bright Seraphina now looked gaunt, her face pale as snow.

She was walking step by step toward the man straight ahead.

As she got closer, the man grabbed her head and lowered himself to kiss her.

That kiss was urgent yet incredibly gentle.

"!"

Everyone from The Defiance Society was stunned by this scene.

"So, Seraphina’s man is..."

Rory pointed at the two figures in front of them, exclaiming in surprise, but before he could say the man’s name, Beatrice Fawcett and the others quickly covered his mouth.

Why shout so loudly? Afraid of not being discovered?

Ronan Yates looked at the two tightly entwined figures, then glanced at his own fingers with a complex expression.

In this tense moment, he was actually thinking about the past, finally understanding why Seraphina’s man was so agitated when he called him a gigolo, even breaking his finger.

Ethan Sterling, the most powerful man in Country Z, who holds half of the national economy.

Since Ethan tightly held onto Seraphina, she nearly hung all her weight on him, truly exhausted.

Ethan’s breath fell densely upon her face, her heart, leaving nowhere to escape.

After a while, Ethan reluctantly released Seraphina, his eyes reddening, almost dripping blood, looking at her, softly asked, "Do I stink now? Am I dirty?"

"No..."

Before Seraphina could finish, she saw the man, who had been standing so straight, slowly sliding down, kneeling on one knee, his hands weakly supporting the ground, looking extremely feeble.

"Ethan!"

Seeing the man’s condition, Seraphina immediately squatted down to check on him.

Ethan’s lips were bleeding uncontrollably, his pupils dim, and even his breathing was much heavier than usual.

But the brief skirmish earlier couldn’t possibly have caused Ethan such harm.

Seraphina suddenly realized something, lifting her shackled hands with effort, she pulled aside Ethan’s shirt front.

She saw Ethan’s chest covered in bruises. The injuries seemed endless, unsure if there were any on his back, or on his legs.

Seraphina stopped breathing for a moment; she couldn’t imagine what Ethan must have gone through.

"Let’s go, they don’t have the guts to move on me."

Ethan regained his senses, raised a weak smile, trying to reassure her, then propped himself up, intending to carry the squatting Seraphina away.

"Wait."

Seraphina stopped Ethan’s movements.

"Listen to me."

Ethan ignored her resistance, gritting his teeth, holding Seraphina up with his weakened body, she felt the man’s chest heaving heavily next to her.

This is his woman, having suffered so much, she should be carried back like a princess.

This is his little friend after all.

Ethan always said Seraphina was incredibly stubborn, but in some way, wasn’t he the same kind of person?

Seraphina didn’t know how severe Ethan’s injuries were, she simply stayed obediently in his arms, not daring to move, worried about straining his injuries.
