Chapter 296: The Looser

Meanwhile the housekeeper’s son, the young man known well as A-Su walked toward the servant’s quarter, wondering why it was so quiet only to notice that in the board of servant’s names, there was one servant with the name crossed. The name was eye catching to A-Su as he recalled to have seen the girl "MeiLan" multiple times as she serve Jiang MengYao twenty four seven.

"Why is this crossed out?" A-Su whispered with a tilt of his head. The servant’s house was far too cold tonight, so chilly and the quietness of the house made it even worse, as if they were about to see a ghost popping out all of a sudden.

Just as he thought so, suddenly he heard a creak on the door that jolted him awake. He flinched, almost letting out a sound but managed to hide behind the pillar only to see a doctor rushing out with his white coat drenched in blood. The now red coat looked ghastly and on his hand was a deformed flesh that seemed to be in a fetal position.

"I told you before-" muttered someone that A-Su couldn’t really hear well. "-How could you fail?!"

"-We have also told you before, young master, I am not a killer. Isn’t it great that the mother is alive?" The doctor questioned. "It’s dangerous to abort a baby during this month and to force it could kill the mother." 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚

"I don’t care!" Jiang MengYao flared up in anger, "Whether both the mother and son dead, I don’t care! Get rid of both of them for all I care!"

"I’m a doctor!" The doctor cried, "I give the abortion to save lives of the mother not to kill!"

"But aren’t you here after being paid by my parents to get rid of a life? A doctor? Hah! You’re also nothing but a murderer who is desperate for money. Have you forgotten that your daughter’s heart surgery is just in a week’s count? Have you prepared enough money when your license has all been revoked?!"

"MengYao!" A voice appeared before the person’s body, coming from the end of the hall, appearing from none other than Mrs Jiang. With feet stomped, she sent a sharp glare at the doctor whose coat was bloodied, "Isn’t it done yet?"

"Done but now this doctor demand for more blood bag. She’s dying," pointed Jiang MengYao with barely any reaction or even the slightest remorse.

"She can still survive," said the doctor to Jiang MengYao, "If you had allowed me- but deep down you want to kill her!"

"So what?" Snapped MengYao and Mrs Jiang shared the same contempt as her son, snapping back.

"Why do you speak about morales when you have taken the money to take lives? There’s no difference between one life or two! Now I need you to go to the main house and abort another child," said Mrs Jiang angrily.

Hearing everything, A-Su was horrified. This was enough to confirm to him that what these people had done was more than abuse... also murder!

Rushing away from the place silently, A-Su made it to the staircase but felt someone’s hands pushing his back. In that single moment he saw a shadow of a person standing with a crooked smile while their arms were crossed but A-Su couldn’t see it clearly as it was dark.

All he could tell that before darkness engulfed him, someone else had pushed him down, one of the Jiang Family member.

Back to the present, AiLin’s expression changed. She knew how terrible they were, how they are nothing but devils in humans’ skin.

"How is that housekeeper’s son?" AiLin questioned first despite wanting to know the truth and that made Grandmother LinLin almost ashamed.

"He has been in a coma ever since. To prevent her being killed, I have ordered her to stay in the village far from Beijing. I think they must have thought he died in the fire."

"Why hadn’t you exposed this to the police?" She asked and saw it in Grandmother LinLin’s eyes, more than shame but a need to punish, a need to enact justice that had failed her and all those who Jiang Family had harmed.

"There is no concrete prove for this fact, one that would clear your name as the suspect of the murder behind that fire. I tried my best to bring you out of the prison but nothing had worked and the only thing left was this," she pushed a USB flash drive to her hand and taking it, AiLin frowned only to hear Grandmother LinLin spoke, "Inside is the CCTV of the servant’s house. It’s most deleted and chopped, they refuse this as an evidence due to it but you should see the person who had held the gasoline wasn’t you that night. It was someone else, same build as you, but she wasn’t bleeding as you were."

AiLin clenched to the USB and took it closer to her chest. This would help her. Help her even more than the inheritance that Grandmother LinLin had given to her.

Thankful, she bowed her head to the old woman.

"Don’t," she whispered in exchange, "I could not be a person you should thank for. Instead, I should thank your mother and father for taking you back despite how difficult it is for them to do so. I’m also thankful to the man you chose as your husband."

"I..." AiLin looked at the floor and then to her eyes, "There is a lot of thing that I couldn’t forgive. But i do remember the time when I was crying alone and you had sit beside me quietly. I won’t say that you were a great grandmother but I’m thankful that you could choose to be on my side now."

A glaze of tears layered Grandmother LinLin’s eyes. She wiped away the tears clumsily until Ailin passed to her a tissue which made her chuckle a little.

"It’s your birthday, don’t cry," she whispered to her grandmother, "Thank you... maybe one day there will be a day where I could forgive you."

and that was enough for the old woman.
