My Ability Pool is Superior-Chapter 100 - 99: Absolutely Impossible!
"Hid in the ward?"
Pu Guangrong’s face turned solemn as he urgently asked, "Did you see which ward they entered?"
Before the young officer could reply, he waved at his fellow officers, signaling everyone to stay alert.
"Not quite sure, some said it was ward 6019, others said the one next to it..."
The young officer hadn’t finished speaking when he was interrupted by another officer’s shout.
"Captain Pu, over here."
The officer stood hesitantly at the doorway of ward 6020, unsure of whether to enter. One of his hands rested on the gun holstered at his waist, ready for any potential danger.
Pu Guangrong quickly arrived at the ward’s entrance and switched on the lights inside.
Seeing the scene in the ward, he frowned, "Two more dead, what’s going on here?"
He still couldn’t figure out why the killer chose to go on a murderous spree at a hospital.
If it were just for revenge against society, why pick a place like a hospital?
Furthermore, from what he knew, this series of murders clearly couldn’t have been done by just one or two people.
The police had just arrived at the scene, and they hadn’t set up a perimeter. The corridor was crowded with patients and their families; although they didn’t dare get too close, the few officers couldn’t possibly stop their curiosity from wanting to see.
"Truly tragic, tsk tsk~"
"I heard Ms. Wang saw the killer?"
"Yes, she lives across the hall, and it seems her son saw too, right?"
"Come on, that person loves to boast. She wouldn’t dare look at the killer."
Inside the ward, Pu Guangrong irritably took a deep drag on a cigarette and then stamped out the remaining stub on the ground.
"Quickly rope off the area and get the public back to their wards. Don’t disturb the crime scene."
The young officer acted unfazed as he silently picked up the cigarette stub and put it into an evidence bag he carried.
He contemplated and said, "Captain Pu, is it possible this case involves parasitic creatures..."
"Impossible, absolutely impossible!"
Pu Guangrong waved his hand firmly, his tone resolute.
Since the existence of parasitic creatures was exposed, the veteran detective naturally realized that the bizarre cases he’d handled, which were later seized by the Special Affairs Bureau, likely involved these creatures.
So even if he hadn’t witnessed those monsters himself, he was aware of the type of traces they left behind in crimes.
At least, their methods weren’t nearly as meticulous as this case: dealing with staff on duty, sabotaging surveillance, picking locks—such purpose-driven actions weren’t typical of parasitic creatures.
Most importantly, after looking for a long time, he hadn’t found any traces reminiscent of a Bone Blade.
"It is indeed parasitic creatures."
In the crowd, a young man in a Special Affairs Bureau uniform spoke softly.
Hmm?
The voice sounded familiar.
Pu Guangrong turned his head sharply.
"Officer Pu, long time no see." Lv Bai waved with a smile. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
"Uh..."
Pu Guangrong’s eyelids twitched, "It’s you, Mr. Lü. When did you arrive?"
"I’ve been staying in the hospital all night, just across the hall."
Lv Bai pointed his thumb towards the neighboring room.
"What?!"
"Stay calm. I know what you’re going to ask."
Lv Bai’s tone carried a subtle hint of amusement as he added, "I took down several parasitic creatures tonight. To avoid scaring everyone, I already moved the monsters’ bodies into the ward beforehand. Want to have a look?"
...
"They look exactly like the monsters’ bodies that were publicly released."
In ward 6019, Pu Guangrong looked disdainfully at the shriveled heads on several bodies.
Because the stench of blood in the ward was overwhelming, the officers mostly stood at the door, using their bodies to block the view of onlookers.
Yao Yi lay limp on the bed, with a hopeless expression: "Can you hurry up and move these bodies away?"
"Please bear with us for a little, young man."
Detective Pu offered a brief reassurance and then turned back to talk with Lv Bai: "Mr. Lü, according to you, those dead in the corridor were all colluding with the parasitic creatures before they died?"
"Is there a problem with that?"
"Pardon my candor, but this doesn’t match many witnesses’ testimonies. Witnesses from ward 09 unanimously said two men broke into their room and fought each other. During the fight, the more slender man seized the opportunity to cut the other’s throat with a short knife."
As Pu Guangrong spoke, he kept a close watch on Lv Bai’s face, trying to detect any emotional reaction.
Unfortunately, he found nothing but ambiguous smiles.
"My testimony doesn’t match the witnesses’, but do the witnesses’ testimonies match each other?"
Lv Bai leaned closer and patted Pu Guangrong’s shoulder, "Old Pu, the corridor was so dark, and the patients were groggy when they woke up. How reliable do you think those testimonies are?"
"But..."
"There’s no ’but’."
Lv Bai cut him off, "There are several parasitic creatures’ bodies here. Are you denying that fact?"
Pu Guangrong hesitantly shook his head.
"Alright then, since this case involves parasitic creatures, according to the procedure, the Special Affairs Bureau, which means I, should take over. Do you have any objections?"
"Mr. Lü makes a valid point, but since the Special Affairs Bureau personnel haven’t arrived yet, why don’t we police assist with the investigation for now?" Pu Guangrong uncertain, decided to play for time.
At least nothing outwardly wrong with saying this.
"Assistance in the investigation isn’t necessary. The police lack experience in handling such cases; they should focus on maintaining order." Lv Bai said gently, but left the room afterward, which seemed a bit inconsiderate.
To him, staying in the ward was just more pointless arguments.
Leaving directly meant that even if Pu Guangrong was displeased, he wouldn’t rashly intervene in the investigation.
And realistically speaking, Lv Bai didn’t believe there were any remaining clues that could threaten him; this was merely to prevent any complications.
The onlookers in the corridor were mostly persuaded to return to their wards.
However, there were always some whose curiosity got the better of them, leaving their doors wide open and partially leaning out to observe.
The police couldn’t do much; there were always people getting as close as they could to the police tape to watch. As long as they didn’t disturb the evidence, it was fine.
"Mr. Lü, hello."
Chang Hu stood at the door of a ward, clad in a blue and white striped patient gown. Seeing Lv Bai pass by, he quickly greeted him.
"And you are?" Lv Bai stopped.
Chang Hu grinned widely, showing his bright white teeth, "You surely don’t know me; after all, I don’t have ’Smiling Face’ plastered on my head."
Hearing this, Lv Bai couldn’t help but laugh.
