My Amnesic Ex Married My Sister, So I Married His Uncle-Chapter 133: I Can’t Make Decisions for Zion Shawcross
Kiana Sterling sneered inwardly.
’Some of these celebrities these days... A little bit of fame really goes to their heads. They completely forget their place.’
’They’re just performers, paid to entertain people, yet they act so high and mighty.’
After receiving Zion Shawcross’s agent’s contact information from Zoe Yates, Kiana Sterling immediately forwarded it to her assistant, Tate Lawson.
She attached a message: [Use whatever means necessary to land me the female lead role in Zion Shawcross’s MV.]
Tate Lawson, who hadn’t had any real tasks for a while, saw Kiana Sterling’s message and thought he was seeing things.
He rubbed his eyes and looked again.
"..."
’Seriously, just how far is this woman planning to extend her career path?’
’He was hired as an assistant to a painter. No one told him he’d have to negotiate for gigs in the entertainment industry.’
But for the sake of the cushy job—little work and great pay—Tate Lawson braced himself and replied: [Okay.]
Just as he sent the message, the lecture ended.
There was a lecture on art history at the Jandor Library today, and Tate Lawson had come to attend with a friend.
After graduating from art academy, Tate Lawson hadn’t pursued a career in art.
The sunk costs of trying to make a name for himself in the art world were too high; it was a gamble he couldn’t afford.
His grandmother, who had raised him, was in poor health, and he needed a job with a reliable salary.
Then, by a strange twist of fate, he became Kiana Sterling’s assistant.
It was a truly great job.
Little work, high pay. His employer was the daughter of a wealthy family, so unless she had something specific for him to do, he had plenty of time for himself.
Rich people, after all, were known for being whimsical.
Worried about losing his job, Tate Lawson decided to keep learning new skills.
If Kiana Sterling ever let him go, he’d have a fallback plan.
’Based on past years, his employer should be busy vacationing in the middle of summer, not in the mood for work at all.’
’What’s gotten into her today?’
Seeing the confused look on Tate Lawson’s face, his companion asked, "What’s up?"
Tate Lawson shook his head. "Nothing, just work stuff."
At the mention of work, his companion perked up.
He leaned closer to Tate Lawson and whispered conspiratorially, "Are you really working as an assistant for *that* Kiana Sterling?"
"Yeah."
"That record-breaking painting of hers sold for such a high price. How much of a cut did you get?"
Tate Lawson raised an eyebrow. "What are you talking about? Why would I get a cut? I just draw a normal salary. When the painting was auctioned, I got a bit of a bonus, that’s all."
Of course, his companion didn’t believe Tate Lawson’s "bit" was just a bit.
"She’s all the rage right now. When her painting was first sold, her name was all over the news. You must have been crazy busy lately, right? Heh heh, does Kiana Sterling need another assistant? Think I’d be a good fit?"
Although he knew his companion was focused on the last part of the question, the first part was what Tate Lawson found strange.
Tate Lawson thought, ’If I were Kiana Sterling, I’d definitely be taking on more work right now to solidify my reputation in the art world.’
’That would be the way to gain a firm foothold in the painting scene.’
But Kiana Sterling hadn’t done that.
It wasn’t that he hadn’t received inquiries for collaborations with Kiana Sterling or invitations for private commissions during this period.
But Kiana Sterling had rejected basically all of them.
Kiana Sterling hadn’t told him her reasons for the refusals.
So when he turned people down, he always said that Kiana Sterling didn’t have the time.
In reality, that wasn’t the case. Kiana Sterling was completely free.
She just didn’t want to accept the offers herself.
Perhaps this was the nonchalant freedom of the wealthy.
Tate Lawson simply said, "Well, I’ve got to go handle work now. See ya."
Although Tate Lawson had no experience in this area, he was lucky enough to know some alumni who worked in the industry.
After asking for their advice, he started trying to contact Henry Wright.
Kiana Sterling had initially thought it wouldn’t be too difficult, but a week passed and Tate Lawson still hadn’t brought her any definitive news.
Kiana Sterling grew impatient and asked him what was going on.
Tate Lawson was in a tough spot.
"Miss, the other party is playing hardball. They’re not easy to communicate with."
Kiana Sterling frowned. "They won’t even take an investment?"
Tate Lawson scratched his head. "They said they don’t need ’your little investment’..."
"Didn’t you tell them who I am?"
Tate Lawson knew that the Sterling Family’s status in Jandor was nothing to scoff at.
"I did, but they didn’t seem to react."
Kiana Sterling’s expression darkened. "I see."
She didn’t make things difficult for Tate Lawson; he was just an assistant, after all. ’Perhaps Zion Shawcross’s people are the type who won’t back down until they’re forced into a corner?’
’She never expected that a mere performer she looked down on would be so clueless about what’s good for him.’
That very evening, she had Zoe Yates arrange a dinner meeting with Henry Wright.
Before the dinner began, Zoe Yates’s father came by to make a brief appearance.
The message was clear: Henry Wright should know when to back down and not cross her.
Henry Wright, of course, recognized Morgan Yates, one of his company’s shareholders.
Not only that, but he was also a renowned figure in Jandor in his own right.
A cold sweat trickled down Henry Wright’s back.
’The truth was, Zion Shawcross couldn’t care less about the female lead for the MV. The one stubbornly refusing to budge was Silas Jacobs.’
’A shareholder versus the big boss... Henry Wright knew who he had to listen to.’
’He just hadn’t expected this Miss Sterling to be so relentless.’
’He had already rejected her assistant so many times, yet she still refused to give up.’
After Morgan Yates left, Henry Wright felt even more cornered.
The restaurant they’d chosen for the evening was high-end and the food was superb, but Henry Wright had no appetite whatsoever.
At the dinner table, Kiana Sterling personally served him some food.
"Henry? I’m just calling you what everyone else does. I hope that’s okay?"
Henry Wright was so alarmed he almost stood up.
"Not at all, not at all! Please, Miss Sterling, just call me Wright."
Kiana Sterling smiled gently. "How could I do that? You’re older than me, Henry, so it’s only right that I call you ’big brother.’ My apologies for inviting you out on such short notice. Please, eat up. Don’t stand on ceremony."
Henry Wright forced a smile. "Okay, okay. You’re too kind, Miss Sterling."
After the pleasantries were exchanged, Kiana Sterling said no more.
She turned to Zoe Yates, and the two of them began eating and critiquing the dishes as if Henry Wright wasn’t even there.
He was the only one on pins and needles.
Under the table, he was furiously tapping out messages to Zion Shawcross.
[Bro, I’m begging you. Just help me out here. Tell President Jacobs to stop being so stubborn. I’m in a really tight spot.]
[It’s just a female lead for an MV. Why is President Jacobs digging his heels in like this?]
[At least give me a hint so I know what I’m dealing with.]
[If you personally say yes, President Jacobs can’t possibly refuse, can he?]
Henry Wright was frantically sending out an S.O.S., and Zion Shawcross was frantically ignoring him.
After a long while, Zion Shawcross finally replied: [Good luck.]
’So blatantly dismissive!’
’That heartless bastard!’
’He’d been so good to him, and now Zion Shawcross was just leaving him to die!’
His anger flashed across his face for a second before Kiana Sterling smiled and refilled his tea. "What’s wrong, Henry? Are you in a bad mood? Or perhaps you don’t want to have dinner with us?"
’...’ Could he actually say "yes" to that?
"Not at all. One of my people is just being an idiot. My apologies."
Only then did Kiana Sterling get to the point. "Henry, to be honest with you, I’d like to collaborate with Zion Shawcross. I heard his MV is missing a female lead, and as it happens, I’m interested. How about we work together?"
A vein throbbed in Henry Wright’s temple. "Miss Sterling, I... I can’t make that decision for Zion Shawcross..."
"That’s why I’m asking you to help persuade him. You might not know this, Henry, but my last painting was purchased by the Shaw Family from Veridia. In a little while, their new resort in Jandor will have its soft opening, and the head of the Shaw Family has invited me to attend the painting-hanging ceremony with him."
"If we can reach a deal, I can bring you and Zion Shawcross with me to the ceremony. It would be a great opportunity for you to chat with the Shaws. I’m sure that would be a great help to your career, wouldn’t it?"
