Chapter 21: Chapter 21: Learn a Thing or Two from Your Little Uncle

After a moment of silence, the scene erupted.

This was the first time Owen Rhodes had ever responded to a question about his personal life!

And he came out swinging with the "married" bombshell!

But that couldn’t be right.

How could there be absolutely no news from the Kyros Group about something as huge as Owen Rhodes getting married?

A sea of white flashes from the cameras went off, and questions were shouted one after another.

Quinn Lawson struggled to fend them off by himself. It was only after he finally escorted Owen Rhodes into the car and drove away that he had a moment to catch his breath.

As the car slowly pulled away from the swarm of reporters, Quinn Lawson carefully studied Owen Rhodes in the rearview mirror.

’I thought the marriage was supposed to be a secret for the time being, but the man himself just casually dropped the bomb like that?’

But that was nothing.

’He’s a newlywed! His wife is so beautiful and charming! How could President Rhodes possibly be in the mood for a business trip?’

’If it were me, I’d choose to stay tangled up in the sheets, thank you very much.’

’You can’t say they’re not getting along; they were whispering sweet nothings and blushing before he left. But you can’t say they’re doing great, either. It’s been five days, and I haven’t seen President Rhodes call his wife once.’

’Though, that Catherine Linden is really something else.’

’President Rhodes ran into her by chance at a dinner not long ago. Liam Hawthorne was with him at the time.’

’I later heard from Liam Hawthorne that Catherine Linden was all over President Rhodes at the dinner table, serving him food and proposing toasts.’

’President Rhodes ignored her, but the woman was incredibly thick-skinned. She didn’t seem to mind at all and just kept smiling and trying to get closer.’

’After it ended, she even followed President Rhodes all the way to the underground garage. If Liam Hawthorne hadn’t stopped her, she would have gotten right into the car.’

’Later, in an interview, she was asked about her ideal type, and she said she liked successful, self-respecting elites like President Rhodes.’

’Oh, right. When she made that public confession, Owen Rhodes was in Lumina.’

’We couldn’t reach Owen Rhodes at the time, so I had people suppress the hype. After he returned, there was too much going on, and the matter was just put on the back burner...’

’I’m so screwed.’

’Who knew President Rhodes had a wife back then?!’

Kieran’s voice was low and laced with displeasure. "What’s this about a public confession?"

Quinn Lawson’s expression tightened, and he instinctively straightened his slouching back.

He was just about to answer when he saw in the rearview mirror that Owen Rhodes seemed to have received an important message. He raised a hand, stopping Quinn’s fumbling explanation.

The message was a video.

Owen Rhodes put on his headphones and watched it intently, but his expression grew darker and darker until his face looked like it was about to drip with fury.

A thin layer of sweat broke out on Quinn Lawson’s palms, which were resting on his knees.

After what felt like a long time, he suddenly heard Owen Rhodes make a call and ask, "Where are you?"

Owen Rhodes’s fingers tapped against the wooden armrest, making a TAP TAP sound. His brow was slightly furrowed with visible impatience.

Soon, he spoke again. "Take the next flight to Veridia. You’re going to follow up on this Veridian project."

"If you don’t come, I’ll give it to Evan Rhodes. You decide."

After saying that, Owen Rhodes took off his headphones and ordered Quinn Lawson, "Book the next flight back to Jandor."

From those few sentences, Quinn Lawson pieced together most of what was happening.

He hesitated for a few seconds before trying to reason with him. "President Rhodes, you place great importance on the Veridian project. What if Mr. Rhodes messes it up..."

Owen Rhodes highly valued the Veridian project. He had been personally overseeing it from the very beginning.

Although Ethan Rhodes had carried the title of the Rhodes family’s eldest young master for years, he had been working at a subsidiary managed by Jonathan Rhodes ever since graduating from college.

A year ago, Owen Rhodes transferred him to the headquarters.

He hadn’t been there for more than a few days before he got into a car accident.

’Who knows if he "lost his memory" of everything he learned at the subsidiary along with everything else.’

’Now Owen Rhodes is saying he’s giving him the Veridian project. Does that mean he plans to groom him?’

’But the timing...’

Quinn Lawson thought Owen Rhodes was being a little ruthless.

Ethan Rhodes and Kiana Sterling’s engagement party was in less than a week.

The Veridian project wasn’t actually that urgent, but the date of the engagement party was set in stone.

And yet, Owen Rhodes had said that if Ethan didn’t come, he’d give it to Evan Rhodes. This was clearly forcing his hand.

Evan Rhodes was the son of Ethan’s fourth uncle, making him Ethan’s younger cousin. Like Ethan, he also had to call Owen Rhodes "Uncle."

Evan was three years younger than Ethan and had just graduated from college.

Among the younger generation of the Rhodes family, there was no precedent for someone joining the headquarters right after graduation.

Even Owen Rhodes himself had spent two years gaining experience outside before returning to the headquarters.

Ethan Rhodes was ambitious. Quinn had heard that he had worked very hard back at the subsidiary.

But the car accident had cost him nearly a year. Now that an opportunity was right in front of him, there was no way he would just hand it over to someone else.

Therefore, he had no choice but to make this trip to Veridia.

’Then again, Ethan’s skills are probably no better than a rookie’s right now. If he’s assigned to the Veridian project, what if something really goes wrong?’

The next second, Owen Rhodes gave him the answer.

"You’re staying behind."

Quinn Lawson’s lips formed a pout. He wanted to cry.

In the back seat, Owen Rhodes quickly made another call.

No one answered.

So he sent a voice message instead: "Do you need me to manage the artists under your banner for you?"

...

The battle in the jewelry store was at a stalemate.

Ethan Rhodes felt that Stella Sterling was being completely unreasonable. She actually dared to call Kiana and him a bitch and a dog!

He almost couldn’t stop himself from cursing back at her when his phone rang.

After seeing the caller ID, his expression visibly tensed. Murmuring "Uncle," he walked outside the jewelry store to take the call.

It took Stella Sterling a moment to realize it was a call from Owen Rhodes.

The anger and resentment bubbling inside her inexplicably subsided.

Kiana’s theatrics weren’t over yet, but a perceptive sales associate stepped forward just in time. "Miss, are you looking to customize a pair of rings? Please follow me to the VIP room to discuss the details."

"Okay."

The jewelry store’s VIP room was on the second floor, accessible via a scenic staircase outside the shop.

Stella Sterling followed the associate, not even sparing Kiana a single glance.

Ethan Rhodes hurried back into the store to find only Kiana and, in the distance, a man sitting on a high stool playing on his phone.

He had no time for anyone else right now. He quickly said to Kiana, "Kiana, you go home first. I have something urgent to attend to in Veridia."

Kiana frowned. "Now? Then when will you be back?"

"Don’t worry, I’ll be back before the engagement party."

Just as he spoke, a teasing voice came from nearby. "Well, well, if it isn’t Mr. Rhodes."

Ethan Rhodes followed the voice and realized the man on the high stool was Silas Jacobs.

He was slouching on the stool, flashing two canine teeth in a grin as he waved.

Ethan straightened up and greeted him formally, "Silas."

Silas Jacobs waved a hand dismissively, his gaze unabashedly sweeping over Kiana from head to toe.

Ethan felt his stare was rude.

Before Ethan could say anything, Silas shook his head and said, "Mr. Rhodes, your taste is lacking." After a thought, he added meaningfully, "You should learn a thing or two from your uncle."

He even gave them an exaggerated wink, as if afraid they wouldn’t see it. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

Silas walked over, patted Ethan’s shoulder, and said with a touch of pity, "Don’t go kicking yourself when you remember this later."

Silas Jacobs was only there to light the fuse. He tossed the spark and left, dusting off his hands.

’Lacking taste.’

Kiana and Ethan both knew exactly what he was referring to.

This time, Kiana’s tears were real.

Her eyes welled up, making her look pitiful and helpless.

But Ethan had no time to comfort her. He was in a hurry to get to Veridia, so he could only put an arm around her shoulder, half-pushing, half-dragging her out of the store while absentmindedly trying to soothe her.

In the end, Kiana didn’t get to buy anything.

Meanwhile, Stella Sterling was sitting in the VIP room. After sketching out her design, she handed it to the associate.

The consultation went smoothly, and Stella readily paid the deposit.

She had no other requests, only that the finished product be ready within a week.

When she got back to the car, she found Liam Hawthorne staring at her, his expression tense.

"What’s wrong?" Stella asked, confused.

"Ma’am, are you all right? I just saw the young master and..." He chose his words carefully. "...Miss Sterling go into that same store."

Stella smiled faintly. "I’m fine, don’t worry."

Liam Hawthorne looked only half-convinced.

"So, are we going to the Front Street Market now?"

Stella thought for a moment. "No, let’s go to the Sterling Estate."
