My Amnesic Ex Married My Sister, So I Married His Uncle-Chapter 91: Hello, Auntie, My Name Is Faye Rhodes
When Stella Sterling was with Ethan Rhodes, she hadn’t known much about the Rhodes family’s internal situation.
For one, she had spent her early years abroad, only gleaning bits and pieces from Ethan Rhodes’s letters.
For another, after returning to the country, she could sense Jonathan Rhodes and his wife’s underlying dislike for her. She had no desire to deal with it, so she generally avoided occasions where the elders were present.
Now that she was keen to understand, Mr. Joel slowly explained things to her while tidying up.
The Rhodes family was quite large. Stella had to patiently take notes on her phone just to barely keep track of who was who.
She couldn’t show up for her first visit empty-handed. Taking advantage of some free time in the afternoon after signing an NDA from Vantage, Stella prepared to go out and buy some gifts.
Ever since Stella’s "car accident" the other day, Owen Rhodes had someone completely upgrade the in-vehicle systems of all the cars in their garage.
The moment she drove out, Owen received a notification on his phone that a vehicle had been started.
Mr. Joel had also given him a heads-up.
He never interfered with what Stella wanted to do, so he naturally didn’t say much. Still, ten minutes later, he sent her a text, pretending to ask casually.
Owen Rhodes: [What are you doing?]
Stella Sterling: [Getting ready to go out for a bit. I need to buy some gifts for tomorrow.]
Owen Rhodes: [They don’t have to be too expensive. They don’t need anything. As long as you’re happy.]
These days, Owen’s philosophy was simple: all that mattered was Stella’s happiness.
While it felt good to be doted on, Stella felt she couldn’t take his affection for granted and let people think she was impolite, giving them an excuse to criticize Owen.
So she was very thoughtful when choosing the gifts.
Common items on the market were too generic. Just as Owen had said, his family didn’t need anything. So, Stella went to the Front Street Market.
When she had gone before, Stella discovered a shop there that sold vintage art pieces, its main selling point being uniqueness.
Just as Stella finished her leisurely selection, Owen’s call came through.
All the gifts were exquisitely wrapped. When Owen came to pick her up, he thoughtfully acted as her porter.
Seeing how seriously Stella was taking tomorrow’s family dinner, Owen couldn’t just let the Rhodes family sit back and wait to receive gifts.
So, he sent a message to The Rhodes Estate ahead of time, stating he would be attending the family dinner with his new wife tomorrow.
The implication was for them to prepare welcome gifts for her.
On the day of the family dinner, Stella woke up early for a change.
When she came downstairs for breakfast, Owen saw she could barely keep her eyes open.
He pulled her into his arms and placed a light kiss on her eyelids. "Why don’t you sleep a little longer?"
Stella glared at him resentfully, pushed him away a bit, and vengefully poked the soft-boiled egg on her plate until it was a mess.
Owen watched in amusement, finally pulling the plate with the mangled soft-boiled egg in front of himself.
"If you’re upset, you can bite me. The egg is innocent."
Stella’s glare only grew more resentful.
’Wouldn’t he just enjoy that?’
Stella ignored him and buried her head in her breakfast.
To show she was taking it seriously, she had booked a full-body spa treatment at a beauty salon and an appointment at a formal wear shop for styling later.
She was making a big deal out of it, but the family dinner wasn’t that important to Owen. He went to work at the office as usual, only saying he would pick her up in the evening to go to The Rhodes Estate together.
At five in the afternoon, Owen met the fully styled Stella at the formal wear shop.
Stella was wearing a moonlight-white brocade qipao with a subtle pattern. Her long hair was coiled up with a silver hairpin adorned with a jade pendant, with two curled strands framing her face. She looked like a lotus blooming from the water—elegant, gentle, and captivating.
Her stunning figure was perfectly accentuated by the qipao. With just one glance, Owen’s gaze gradually darkened.
He walked over, wrapped an arm around her waist, and whispered, "How about we don’t go?"
’He wanted to hide her away where only he could see her.’
Stella couldn’t help but glare at him. "What are you talking about? Let’s go!"
As they walked, Stella initially kept tugging at the side slit of her qipao every now and then.
Truth be told, a qipao wasn’t her usual style; she wasn’t used to wearing them.
It was too feminine, which didn’t quite suit her.
But why choose a qipao today?
’Well, because a qipao’s collar is high. It can cover things up.’
Once they were in the car, Owen couldn’t resist pulling her over for a kiss.
Her lipstick was smudged. Stella could only glare at him while touching it up in the mirror.
The Rhodes Estate was located in Esterly. It was a Chinese-style manor covering over 2,000 square meters, its garden-like design a perfect embodiment of traditional Chinese architectural aesthetics.
As Stella finished her makeup and was about to get out of the car, she noticed a white car had parked behind their Ghost at some point.
A mother and daughter stood in front of it, waiting for the estate’s staff to unload things from their car.
The short-haired girl was clinging to the arm of a woman, who also had short hair and was dressed in a tweed suit, and wheedling her.
"Mom, Mommy, my dearest mother, I’m begging you, just let me go! I’ll just take a quick peek and come right back, okay?"
Audrey Rhodes was unmoved. "No. And would you be going alone? All you do all day is run around wildly with that Zion Shawcross. Can’t you do something productive? Why can’t you be more like Evan? Your uncle has already entrusted him with important responsibilities, and here you are, talking to me about going to some art exhibition. Ab-so-lutely not!"
Owen glanced back and explained, "My father’s fourth daughter, Audrey Rhodes, and her daughter, Faye Rhodes."
A look of understanding crossed Stella’s face. So this was Owen’s fourth sister.
She’d heard from Mr. Joel that Bernard Rhodes had two daughters. The eldest had gone abroad early on and hadn’t been in contact with the Rhodes Family for many years. The other daughter was Audrey Rhodes.
After she married in her early years, the Rhodes Family helped her husband’s family climb several rungs up the social ladder. But the man got arrogant and cheated on her.
When Audrey Rhodes found out, she didn’t hesitate. She decisively chose to divorce him, leaving the man with nothing, and returned to the Rhodes Family with her daughter.
Mr. Joel said that Audrey and Owen’s relationship was quite good. Among Owen’s generation, she was the only one who held a position at Kyros Headquarters, where she was in charge of human resources.
Stella had an inkling when she overheard "Zion Shawcross" and "art exhibition" from the car.
Sure enough, the moment she got out of the car, she heard Faye Rhodes saying, "Mom, you’re biased! I’m officially working at Zion Shawcross’s studio now. I even did the proposal for his new album’s art direction, and it was accepted! I’m working very seriously!"
’Come to think of it, she has me to thank for getting that job with Zion Shawcross.’
The words had barely left her mouth when Faye’s sharp eyes spotted Owen and Stella getting out of the car on the other side.
She immediately called out, "Uncle!"
Owen led Stella over to the mother-daughter duo and gave them a slight nod by way of greeting.
Stella stood gracefully by his side. "Fourth Sister, I’m Stella Sterling. It’s a pleasure to meet you. I brought a small gift, I hope you like it."
After she spoke, Liam Hawthorne came over holding two gift boxes, and with a nod, placed them in the other car.
Both Audrey and Faye Rhodes remembered Stella. After the commotion at the engagement banquet, there wasn’t a single person in the Rhodes Family who didn’t know who she was.
Faye just hadn’t expected that, up close, Stella was even more beautiful than she remembered.
First impressions were a strange thing. She couldn’t say why, but Faye just felt in her heart that she really liked Stella.
Without any prompting, she addressed her voluntarily, "Hello, Auntie! I’m Faye Rhodes."
