My Baby Daddy Isn't Human-Chapter 41: The Uninvited Guest
Elion sat behind his massive mahogany desk, the quiet broken only by the low whir of his laptop and the pen gliding on paper. Bookshelves lined the walls, each packed with leather-bound volumes and files neatly arranged. On the desk, a pristine stack of papers waited for his attention, along with a black laptop displaying charts and emails.
His sharp gaze moved across the documents in front of him, but his mind wasn't entirely on his work. A subtle frown crept onto his face as his thoughts wandered briefly—inevitably—to Raelynn. She had been occupying his house and, unknowingly, his thoughts more than he cared to admit.
The soft knock at his door broke his focus. Without looking up, Elion called out, "Come in."
The door creaked open, and Kade, his ever-efficient right-hand man, stepped inside. His expression was hesitant, which immediately caught Elion's attention. Kade rarely hesitated.
"Elion," Kade began, stepping forward and clasping his hands behind his back. "There's… a situation downstairs."
Elion raised an eyebrow, leaning back in his chair. "What kind of situation?"
Kade exhaled sharply, clearly bracing himself. "There's a woman in the lobby demanding to see you. She's been making quite the scene and refuses to leave until she does."

Elion's expression didn't change, though his fingers tapped the desk lightly. "And you've brought this to me because…?"
Kade shifted slightly. "It's not just any woman. She claims to be Zara—Raelynn's best friend."
A flicker of recognition passed through Elion's gaze when Zara's name came up. He had seen the name "Zara" multiple times in the file he had on Raelynn when he was gathering information about her. Zara was a consistent presence in Raelynn's life, one of the few people mentioned repeatedly.
"Interesting," Elion said after a moment. "What does she want?"
"She wouldn't say much except that it's urgent," Kade replied. "She's adamant about seeing you. Threatened to sit in the lobby all day if necessary."
Elion allowed a small, amused smile to tug at his lips. "Persistent like her best friend, isn't she?"
Elion couldn't help but think about how Raelynn did the same thing when Elion wouldn't meet him—same stubborn attitude.
"Very," Kade replied dryly.
Elion looked over at Kade, who didn't seem too pleased. "What's going on?" he asked, figuring it wasn't something worth stressing over.
"The woman's insane. Took my glasses and said she'd smash them unless she saw you. Good thing the guard stopped her."
Elion leaned forward, grinning, rested his elbows on the desk. "Fine. Bring her up."
Kade's brows lifted slightly, but he nodded without questioning the order. "Right away."
Minutes later, Zara was ushered into the office. She stood out sharply against the quiet, refined backdrop of Elion's office.
She was tiny, but the fire in her expression made her seem larger than life. Her dark curls bounced slightly as she stepped in, her hands clutching the strap of her bag tightly. She took a deep breath, as if to steady herself, before offering a polite, if slightly awkward, smile.
"Mr. Vaelorian," Zara began, her voice steady but cautious. "Thank you for agreeing to see me."
Elion's eyes stayed calm as he looked her over, assessing her silently. "You're Zara," he said, not a question but a statement. "Raelynn's best friend."
Zara blinked, clearly taken aback by how quickly he identified her. "Y-yes," she stammered before quickly regaining her composure. "I am. I apologize for coming unannounced, but—"
Elion raised a hand, cutting her off mid-sentence. "I already know who you are, Zara. The question is, what do you want from me?"
His bluntness threw her off for a second, but she straightened up quickly. "It's about Raelynn," she said firmly.
At the mention of her name, Elion's expression didn't change, but his attention sharpened. He leaned back in his chair, his fingers steepling in front of him. "Go on."
Zara hesitated, as if unsure how to phrase her words, before finally blurting out, "She's gone. I haven't been able to reach her for days. She said she was going to meet you to tell you about her… pregnancy."
Elion's face remained unreadable, which Zara took as confirmation.
"You already know about it, don't you?" Zara pressed. "She told you."
Elion stayed as calm and composed as ever. "What makes you think she hasn't told me?"
Zara frowned, her worry visibly deepening. "Because I've tried calling her over and over again, but her phone's always off. I went to her apartment—it's been empty for days. I thought… I thought maybe she was kidnapped or—"
"Calm down," came Kade's voice from the side, his tone firm but not unkind. "Raelynn hasn't been kidnapped."
Zara turned to him, her eyes wide. "Then where is she?"
"She's been living in his house," Kade said simply, nodding toward Elion. "In Mr. Vaelorian's house."
Zara froze, her mouth opening and closing as she processed this information. "Wait… what?"
Elion's lips curved into the faintest hint of a smile, amused by her reaction. "You heard him," he said smoothly. "Raelynn is under my care."
Zara blinked rapidly, clearly struggling to wrap her mind around the idea. "You mean… she's been here this whole time?"
Elion gave a slight nod, his gaze steady. "Yes. And since you're so concerned, I'll make arrangements for you to see her."
Kade looked visibly surprised by the order, his eyes darting to Elion. "You want me to take her to your house?"
"Yes," Elion said, his tone leaving no room for argument. "Arrange transportation immediately."
Kade hesitated for a split second before nodding. "Understood." He turned to Zara. "Come with me."
Zara, still looking slightly dazed, nodded and followed him toward the door.
As they left, Elion allowed himself a quiet chuckle. The sound was quiet, barely there, but there was a hint of real amusement in it. He shook his head slightly before returning his attention to the papers on his desk.
"Raelynn," he murmured under his breath, a faint smile tugging at the corner of his lips. "You certainly bring interesting things into my life."
