Chapter 12: A new Adventurer

"Uhm... are... you lost?" the receptionist asked, clearly feeling uncomfortable.

In front of the counter were two individuals, both wearing cloaks that covered their entire bodies and faces. It didn't take much for them to stand out.

"No. My friend here would like to register as an adventurer," the female one spoke.

She was Eri, and the individual beside her was none other than Rashin Montero.

It took almost a day, but they managed to make it to the main capital. Distance was not the issue, as it took some time to find cloaks to hide their faces.

If they were going to survive, Eri knew they needed money, and for money, one of them had to be an adventurer.

It was the fastest way, though it had a low survival rate despite the good pay.

"You want to register your friend as an adventurer?" asked the receptionist.

"Yes, please. And if possible, he would like to remain solo and not under any guild," Eri added.

She remembered Rashin telling her he didn't want to team up with anyone. People were not to be trusted easily, according to him.

The receptionist took her time looking at Rashin, and then she spoke, "If that is what you want, then I'll get started right away. Please, fill out this paper."

She handed Eri a form.

Eri read through it and then passed it to Rashin, who proceeded to fill it out.

Once he was done, he placed it on the table.

"Here, I'm done," he said.

Perhaps it was how he said it or the manner in which he gently placed the paper on the table with a slight nod, but as soon as the receptionist heard Rashin's voice, her eyes widened in surprise.

It was the kind of feeling one would get from listening to white noise for too long and then abruptly ending it.

She wanted to hear more. His voice was indeed soothing.

"Uhn... ah, here, place your hand here so I can get your reading."

The receptionist gently placed a small flat-surfaced piece of equipment on the table, her cheeks gradually turning red as she watched Rashin.

Of course, Eri took note of it. She was more confused than surprised.

"Okay."

Rashin moved forward and pressed his hand on the stone.

Almost immediately, a red light glowed from the touch, and before he knew it, a template hovered before him.

[Name: Rashin Montero.

Class: Blacksmith

Rank: E

Guild: None.]

The receptionist couldn't help but chuckle nervously after seeing the stats.

Even Eri shook her head as she looked to the ground.

'We are so screwed,' she whispered to herself.

"Your uhm, stats are out. The thing is, it's very hard to see a blacksmith being an adventurer, especially with such a low rank. W-would you like to search for a new job? I do believe—"

"You need not worry. I don't care about ranks," Rashin uttered.

"T-that is not the point." The receptionist looked at Eri as if to urge her to talk some sense into Rashin.

For the most part, the receptionist was right. Very rarely would you see a blacksmith being an adventurer. They simply lacked both the skills and mindset for it.

In her own way, she was simply trying to protect her customer.

Little did she know, Rashin was not one to back down from his decision.

With a single wave of her hand, Eri uttered, "Please just register him. There's no changing his mind."

The receptionist sighed, "As you wish."

She began processing it, moving the stone toward the back of the room.

"Hey, you're quite popular, aren't you?" Eri suddenly spoke the moment the receptionist was gone.

Rashin looked at her with confusion. "What do you mean?"

Eri tried to maintain a stoic look. 'Is his voice really that amazing? Sounds totally normal to me.'

Just then, she caught a peek of some women suddenly peeking from the back room where the receptionist had gone to process Rashin's adventurer's tag.

A quick frown formed on her face as she noticed the ladies were looking at Rashin and blushing to themselves.

"Come here."

From nowhere, Eri stood in front of Rashin, sending a powerful glare at the women.

"Are you alright, priestess?" Rashin asked, concern filling his words.

"Shut up. Womanizer."

"Womanizer? I don't think I have done anything to deserve that name. Are you having an emotional meltdown like you always do?"

Eri cracked, "What is that supposed to mean?!"

"You look angry."

"No shit! Ahh, just stay behind me! Geez!"

Not even a few seconds later, the receptionist had already returned.

"Here you go... your adventurer's tag." She stretched it forward.

Before Rashin could think to take it, Eri grabbed it for him.

"Hey, thank you.~~~ " Eri smiled a bit, slightly raising her head for the receptionist to clearly see her disdained expression.

A bit frightened, the receptionist took a few steps back, shaking in fear.

As if having no clue what she did, Eri asked, "Please give us some jobs to do. It's getting quite late."

It took a few seconds for the woman to get her head back together.

"Oh, right."

She immediately began to search her table.

A few minutes later, she had laid papers on the counter, each one having different job descriptions for adventurers.

"Since your friend is only an E rank, these are the only jobs that match his rank," said the woman.

Eri took her time reading through the papers, and with each one, her eyes got even thinner.

'The pay on these jobs is ridiculously low. 10 Eres for clearing a sewer? That's not even enough for one meal.'

She sighed.

Rashin, who was standing beside her, was busy looking at the swarm of adventurers around him.

"Fine, I'll take these three." Eri picked three jobs.

"Uhm, this is your first time adventuring, right? Don't you think you should take it easy?"

Eri laughed a bit, "Rashin, you really are popular, aren't you?" She rested her hand on his shoulder. "Don't worry, my friend is no ordinary man. If anything, he is the only cure to this world. So don't fret."
