My CEO Ex: Let Me Go.-Chapter 27
At the hospital, the attending doctor gave me a brief examination. There was nothing major wrong.
"But, doctor, I’m pregnant. Could this have any impact?"
The doctor paused, considering my words, before suggesting, "I recommend you get a WIC."
"Alright."
He wrote me a referral, and I headed to the obstetrics clinic for further tests.
As soon as I stepped out of the examination room, Julian approached, his concern evident. "How did it go? What did the doctor say?"
"Nothing major, but I still need to do another test. I can manage from here, though. You should head back first. Thanks for today. I’ll treat you to a meal sometime."
"No need," Julian insisted. "Since I’m already here, it’s no trouble to stick around. I’ll go with you for the test. I’ll stay with you."
"The hospital is crowded, and after the tests, the results will take a while. Your identity stands out too much. If someone recognizes you and takes a photo, it could get ugly."
I was right. Julian hadn’t worn a mask, and thankfully, it was evening, so the emergency room wasn’t too busy. Only a few doctors, nurses, and family members were around, too preoccupied to notice anyone.
But if he stayed with me for the test and waited for the results, he would essentially be sitting in plain sight, easily recognizable.
Julian sighed. "Alright, I’ll leave first. Be careful, and let me know once you’re done with the test."
"Okay."
I went to the obstetrics clinic alone for the test.
When the results came back, the doctor suggested I stay in the hospital for observation overnight.
So, I had to stay for another night.
Lately, my trips to the hospital had become all too frequent.
I called Maggie and asked her to bring me a change of clothes.
I kept checking my phone.
An hour had passed, but there were still no calls or messages from Alexander.
Maggie arrived with the clothes, the soup she’d made, and some toiletries.
After drinking the soup, I checked my phone again. Still nothing.
I sat there, scrolling through Twitter. I switched to my alternate account to browse some OTP fan hashtags.
One new post had been pinned to the top of the hashtag, drawing hundreds of comments, over a thousand likes, and counting.
The post was about The Aurelia Gala, an upscale evening event where someone had caught Alexander and Isabella leaving together and getting into the same car.
There were nine pictures attached.
Taken from the same angle, the pictures showed Isabella linking arms with Alexander, walking out of the main entrance, and getting into the car. In between, Alexander even leaned in to listen to something Isabella said.
The ninth image was a gif, stitching together the other eight photos. It clearly showed their intimate posture—their relationship unmistakably close.
Though it hadn’t made it to the Trending Topics, thanks to being posted too late, the OTP fans were over the moon.
Meanwhile, those who had mocked Isabella after Stellar Entertainment Group’s clarification had fallen silent.
I clicked on the gif and replayed it over and over again, unable to tear my eyes away.
And still, no call. No message from Alexander.
I smiled bitterly and set my phone down, the cold emptiness in my chest deepening.
I had known all along that Alexander didn’t care about me.
But who could blame me? My appetite was small, too easily satisfied. Just seeing him bend down to put my shoes on had moved me deeply.
That moment of warmth, quickly followed by disappointment.
He fed me a piece of candy, only to stab me in the heart right after. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Suddenly, my phone rang, making my heart skip a beat. I hurriedly answered. "Alexander?"
"Is this Miss Vivienne? This is the police station..."
Hearing the unfamiliar voice, a wave of disappointment washed over me. "Oh. Hello."
"We received a call from the staff at the gala. After reviewing the security footage, we’ve detained the person who pushed you into the water. Do you have time to come to the Silverwood Precinct?"
"Sorry, I can’t come right now; I’m at the hospital. I’ll send a lawyer over."
"Alright."
After hanging up, I immediately contacted a lawyer from the Vanguard Global Enterprises Legal Department to go on my behalf.
Before going to bed, I glanced at my phone. Still no messages from Alexander.
I went to sleep feeling empty, a sense of disappointment and regret settling over me.
The next day, I woke up and checked my phone. Once again, no messages or calls from Alexander.
I had long given up on him, yet my heart still felt heavy.
Leaving the hospital, I went straight to the company.
The secretary was waiting for me. As soon as she saw me exit the elevator, she rushed over. "Director Vivienne, CEO Hawthorne asked you to go straight to his office."
I smiled lightly and walked toward the CEO’s office.
The last time, Alexander had asked if I’d told Grandpa that he’d gone to see Isabella. What would he ask me this time?
I walked in and stood in front of the desk. "CEO Hawthorne, you wanted to see me?"
Alexander looked up at me. Seeing I had changed into a new outfit, he put down the file and leaned back in his chair. "You’re back."
"Yes."
"Maggie told me you didn’t go home last night?" Alexander’s gaze sharpened as he observed me.
"Yes, something came up." I nodded calmly.
"What happened? Do you need my help?"
Last night, I had been at my weakest, desperately hoping he would call and comfort me. But now, I no longer needed it.
His concern no longer mattered to me.
“Nothing, just a small issue,” I said casually.
Alexander’s eyes darkened as he watched me, his right hand tapping absently on the armrest of his chair.
“Is there anything else? If not, I’ll leave,” I added, turning to walk away.
Just as I reached the door, Alexander spoke. “You were with Julian all night last night?”
He had been with Isabella last night, so he probably assumed the same about me.
I turned back to face him. “Is there a problem?”
“Vivienne, I know you like Julian, but remember, with his status, there are always paparazzi following him. I suggest you stay away from him. If you’re caught on camera, you need to be prepared for the consequences.”
I wanted to laugh, but I couldn’t hold back the breath I’d been holding in. “Haven’t you and Isabella been caught on camera a hundred times already?”
“The situation is different.”
“How is it different?”
“I’m a public figure, but you’re not. If the two of you are caught, everything about you will be exposed. Every move you make will be under the spotlight, and everything will be judged. Julian’s fans might not accept you. Besides the online abuse, there might even be some extreme fans who act out. Are you sure you can handle that?” Alexander asked, his face calm.
He knew I liked to keep a low profile. I never appeared in front of cameras and disliked media attention.
At V&R’s product launches, we always had a brand spokesperson.
I rarely attended media events.
If I were with Julian, I’d constantly have to be on guard against paparazzi, and that would be exhausting.
So, Julian wasn’t suitable for me.
I stayed silent.
“Also, with Julian’s current status, if he’s caught, it could affect his career too,” Alexander added, watching me carefully.
Isabella and Julian were different. Isabella had Alexander as a powerful backing and didn’t need to please the fans.
Julian, though talented in acting, was still, at heart, a pop idol, relying on his fans for support.
I had to admit, Alexander’s reasoning made sense.
But right now, I wasn’t about to give in or accept his advice.
“Thank you for your suggestion, but if I really like someone, none of that matters. These are just obstacles that can be overcome,” I said firmly.
