As the trial began, Max stood firm, his lightning-coated left hand crackling with energy while flames surged from his right.

A group of Stone Beasts—towering creatures with rocky exteriors—emerged from the mist. Their bodies were covered in thick stone plates, making them highly resistant to normal attacks.

Max nodded.

"Perfect test subjects."

"Time to see if my knowledge is still valid"

With a burst of speed, he dashed forward, his enhanced strength propelling him like a cannonball. His flaming fist struck the first beast’s chest, exploding on impact, sending cracks through its rocky hide.

Before it could react, Max followed up with his lightning-coated left fist, delivering a thunderous punch to its head. The electrical surge paralyzed the creature, causing it to shudder violently before collapsing to the ground.

More beasts lunged at him. Max dodged with newfound agility, his Hyper Strength compensating for his lack of refined technique. He weaved between them, etching runes mid-battle, embedding fire and lightning sigils onto their bodies.

As he clapped his hands together, the runes detonated simultaneously, engulfing the beasts in a chaotic explosion of fire and lightning.

Dust and debris settled.

Max exhaled, wiping sweat from his forehead. "Not bad for my first fight."

Suddenly, a deeper growl echoed through the trial grounds.

From the shadows, a massive armored beast, far larger than the others, stepped forward—a Trial Guardian.

Max grinned. "Alright, let’s see how strong I really am!"

With fire and lightning raging in both hands, he charged towards his next challenge.

The Trial Guardian was unlike the other beasts—its rocky armor gleamed with metallic luster, hinting at an unnatural toughness. Its glowing red eyes locked onto Max as it let out a deafening roar, shaking the entire trial ground.

Max’s grin widened. "You’re a big one, huh? Let’s see if you can handle this!"

Without hesitation, he sprinted forward, his Hyper Strength enhancing his speed. The Guardian swung a massive claw, aiming to crush him in one strike.

BOOM!

Max narrowly dodged, rolling to the side. The impact left a deep crater where he once stood.

"That would’ve hurt." He smirked before counterattacking.

Raising his hands, he quickly inscribed a series of runes mid-air, a combination of Fire, Lightning, and Impact sigils.

"Rune Art: Explosive Blitz!"

The runes ignited, and Max punched forward, sending a shockwave of fire and lightning crashing into the Guardian’s body.

BOOM!

The explosion sent the beast skidding backward, but when the dust settled, it remained standing—completely unfazed.

Max clicked his tongue. "Damn, tough bastard."

The Guardian lowered its stance, energy gathering around its body.

CRACK!

The ground split open, and metallic spikes shot up from the earth, forcing Max to jump back. Before he could land, the Guardian launched itself forward, moving faster than something its size should be able to.

"Shit!"

Max crossed his arms in defense, activating a temporary Lightning Shield Rune, but—

BAM!

The Guardian’s armored punch smashed into him, sending him flying dozens of meters before he crashed into a rock wall.

CRACK!

Max gasped, feeling pain surge through his body. "Okay… that actually hurt."

The Guardian didn’t wait. It charged again, aiming to finish him off.

Max wiped the blood from his mouth. His Hyper Strength ability surged, and he began inscribing a massive rune beneath his feet.

"If regular attacks don’t work, let’s see how you handle this!"

The rune glowed violently, pulsing with compressed energy as he poured every ounce of mana into it.

"Rune Art: Thunderflame burst!"

BOOM!

A massive explosion of fire and lightning erupted, consuming the entire battlefield in a blinding storm of destruction. The Guardian let out a piercing screech as its metallic armor began to melt under the intense energy.

Max didn’t stop. He rushed forward, fists engulfed in flames and lightning, and delivered a final, earth-shattering Hyper Punch straight into the Guardian’s chest.

CRACK!

The Guardian’s core shattered, and its massive body collapsed.

Silence filled the battlefield.

Max panted heavily. His body ached, his mana reserves were nearly drained, but—he had won.

A golden notification appeared before him.

[Trial Guardian Defeated! You have cleared the First Trial!]

Max let out a breathless chuckle. "I did it…"

Before he could celebrate further, a pillar of light descended from the sky, and a shimmering reward chest appeared before him.

"Time to see what I won." Max smiled, stepping forward.

Max walked toward the shimmering reward chest, his heart pounding with anticipation. As he reached out, the golden light intensified, and the chest slowly creaked open, revealing its contents.

Inside, three items floated in mid-air:

Rune Core (Tier 2) – A condensed magical core that enhances rune-based abilities, allowing the user to inscribe stronger and more complex runes.

Stormbreaker Gauntlets – A pair of gauntlets infused with lightning and wind essence, increasing attack speed and granting electrical discharge on impact.

Ascender’s Token – A special key allowing him to advance to the next floor of the Tower without retaking the trial.

Max’s eyes widened in excitement. "Holy crap… these are insane rewards!"

The Rune Core was exactly what he needed to improve his rune abilities. The Stormbreaker Gauntlets would work perfectly with his Hyper Strength, making his punches even deadlier. And the Ascender’s Token meant he could skip the trial process and ascend to the next major floor immediately.

Max grabbed the items, feeling the power surge through his body as he equipped the Stormbreaker Gauntlets. His hands crackled with electricity, and he clenched his fists, testing their weight.

"Feels good."

Just as he was about to leave, a golden light engulfed him, signaling the end of the trial. His body floated upward, and the environment around him blurred into white light.

[Tower – First Floor]

When Max opened his eyes, he found himself standing in a massive cityscape floating in the clouds. Towering crystal spires stretched high into the sky, and countless other Ascenders roamed the streets, each radiating power.

A holographic notification appeared in front of him.
