Chapter 123: This Place Is Really Gargantuan

"Ohhh," Seraphyra murmured playfully, lifting something from a wall with her tail. "Master will like this."

It was a crystalline orb embedded within a strange rock formation.

She plucked it free and inspected it with narrowed eyes.

"Such a greedy little human," she mused affectionately. "Risking his life and still collecting shiny things."

She continued moving, casually retrieving relics as she went.

A silver dagger half-fused into blue crystal...

A metallic shard tinging faintly...

A bracelet carved from unknown bone...

She stacked them carefully in her coil.

"He better praise me properly for this," she whispered with a mischievous smile.

---

Meanwhile, the terrain along Gor’thala’s route transformed dramatically.

The crystalline ground gradually flattened as the cold intensified further.

Up ahead was a body of water.

A stream stretched across the cavern with its surface eerily still.

The water glowed faintly blue due to the ambient light.

There was no visible land bridge or alternate route so getting into the water seemed to be the only possible way forward.

Without hesitation, Gor’thala stepped in.

The water rose quickly, but with her ten-foot frame, it only reached her chest.

Steam hissed faintly as her hot body met the freezing surface.

She moved forward steadily with ripples forming around her as the cavern widened ahead.

The path branched into two further directions beyond the water.

While Gor’thala was thinking of which path to choose, the once-still surface suddenly began stirring...

A current formed causing Gor’thala to narrow her eyes as she felt movement beneath the surface.

Unfortunately, before she could react fully, she felt a sharp pain as something bit into her thigh.

She let out a low groan and plunged her fist into the water instantly.

Thusssshhhhh~

She grabbed whatever had latched onto her and ripped it free.

It was grotesque, five feet long hybrid of turtle and fish. It had a hard shell plating its upper body and fins protruding from its side with a wide mouth lined with spiky vampiric fangs dripping icy fluid.

Its eyes glowed pale blue as it slapped continously in mid air and made a low screehing sound, vehemently trying to bite into Gor’thala skin again.

Without hesitation, she hurled it across the cavern and a burst of emerald fire followed it in mid air.

Boom!

The flames exploded against the creature as it slammed into the rock wall and fell back into the water with a scorched hiss.

However, the disturbance didn’t stop there.

The water ahead rippled as lines cut through the surface, forming more than ten shapes.

They moved with explosive speed and before Gor’thala could launch another spell, they shot out of the water...

Over fifteen of the same creatures leapt from the water simultaneously, slamming into her body.

They bit into her arms, legs, sides and dragged her backward till she fell into the water and it swallowed them up.

A violent churn of blue and green erupted at the surface...

---

Meanwhile, West had reached what appeared to be the end of his assigned route.

The tunnel widened abruptly and then stopped...

Ahead lay an opening and a ledge where the path really ended.

The path had been cut off by a massive drop. He stepped forward cautiously and looked down.

It was no less than fifty feet... at most seventy to a hundred.

And far ahead, a completely different terrain spread out.

Dark stone interwoven with blue crystal veins while towering pillars rose from below like the ribs of a colossal beast.

The cavern extended farther than he could fully see.

"This place is really gargantuan..." he muttered.

He was about to telepathically check on Gor’thala and Seraphyra when he heard footsteps behind him crunching faintly against the crystalline ground.

He turned gradually.

"Gor’thala? Is that you?"

The figure approaching from the tunnel entrance was greenish, tall and broad...

But something was off. It seemed somewhat glossy...

As it came closer, West saw clearly... it wasn’t Gor’thala.

Its body looked like it had been molded from viscous green material.

Limbs elongated slightly before retracting.

Its face lacked defined features, yet faint depressions suggested eyes forming and reforming. The surface of its body rippled continuously, as though it could liquefy at any moment.

It stopped several feet away with its head tilted.

Pitt~

Pattt~

Tssshhhhh~

Droplets of viscous green liquid fell from its limbs and struck the cavern floor. Wherever they touched, the crystalline surface hissed and smoked faintly with tiny pockmarks forming as if the substance carried a corrosive bite.

West’s eyes hardened.

"What the hell is that?"

Of course, the creature did not answer... instead, its body rippled with its surface undulating like thick oil disturbed by unseen currents. For a split second, the depressions where eyes should have been seemed to narrow.

And then, without warning, it launched itself forward like liquid flung from a bucket.

It stretched mid-air, elongating unnaturally with its torso thinning while its limbs sharpened into spear-like extensions aimed directly at West’s chest.

Before it could close the distance—

BOOM!

One of the Verdant Pyre Behemoths swept forward and swatted it mid-air with a flaming paw.

The impact rang through the cavern like a thunderclap.

But instead of the satisfying crunch of bone or the crack of armor, the paw sank straight through the creature’s torso.

Green fluid splashed violently in all directions and some of it struck the Behemoth’s foreleg.

TSSSHHHH—

Smoke erupted instantly. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶

The beast let out a deep, enraged growl as patches of its thick hide began sizzling with the green substance eating into it like acid.

The creature reformed before it even hit the ground, turning back into a vaguely humanoid shape as it landed lightly.

The second Verdant Pyre Behemoth wasted no time in lashing its three massive tails forward in unison, aiming their venom coated spear-like tip at the creature.

They tore through the green figure and again, the same result replayed...

The tails sliced through liquid mass, scattering droplets across the cavern walls.

The creature simply flowed apart and reassembled behind them.

It hardened suddenly as its surface tranformed from fluid sheen to a semi-solid with a rough texture.

Its right arm ballooned grotesquely, expanding into a massive, greenish fist twice the size of West’s torso...
