My Demon Wife In The Apocalypse: I Can Control Minds!-Chapter 79 - 78- Flipped
Chapter 78- Flipped
"Kill... him?" Liliana froze as she stared at her grandfather. Her entire demeanor shifted in a second from jovial to cold. Her warm look turned sharper. "No."
"No?" The man seemed quite confused. "I wasn’t asking you, kid. If I deem him dangerous, then leaving him to thrive would be a grave mistake."
"And I said you can’t do that," Liliana said coldly. "I do not want him dead. He must not die."
"..."
For a second, the man didn’t know what to say. Rarely did he see Liliana that angry or annoyed; she wasn’t someone who showed negative emotions that often. Yet, what he was staring at was far from her happy self. She was angry, her aura moving around her in an agitated manner, turning the entire house cold and tense.
This was her way of showing how much she doesn’t want that.
’Hm, since when does she even show this kind of emotion toward anyone, really?’ He squinted his eyes. ’Could she be?’
The moment that thought formed in his mind, the man was completely stunned. He couldn’t believe it. There is no way Liliana would actually have such emotions. It must be another reason.
"Why do you want him alive if he is clearly not going to be good, Liliana?"
"Because he won’t. I know that for a fact. He won’t be dangerous, grandpa." Liliana shook her head. "Even if you sense that he is dangerous, I don’t want you to kill him. I will make sure he stays on the right path the entire time."
"How are you so certain? Fate works in mysterious ways, kid. If the Divine Records see this kid as someone very special, a one of a kind, then there are certain plans for his future far beyond our understanding. I do not want to risk." The man clenched his fist. "We cannot afford another one of those Old bastards to emerge. The balance is already shaky as it is."
"I promise you, Grandpa. He will be an ally, not an enemy."
"I will judge that with my own eyes. For now, we will leave it at that." The man said as he stood up and picked up the two empty cups.
"Sigh..." Liliana exhaled and looked outside through the window. ’Now that I think about it, I have been gone for way longer than I intended. I wonder if that boy is doing fine.’
Since the time in that dimension and this one move at different paces, an hour or two here is an entire day on Earth. So, for Liliana, it was a short period of time while an entire eventful day passed for Jack.
"I should be heading out now, Grandpa. I will bring Jack to see you soon, if I can." She said as she stood up.
"His name is Jack?"
"Mhm, Jack Ashenblood."
"Ashenblood?" The man raised an eyebrow.
"Hm? Have you heard of that last name before?"
"..." The old man fell into deep thought as he rubbed his beard. "Ashenblood... That name isn’t foreign. I have heard of it before, but I cannot remember when or in which context."
"Hm, interesting. I thought it sounded quite unique, too. But, if you remember anything, tell me." Liliana said.
"Yeah... I will." The man, seemingly completely lost in his own thoughts, replied dismissively.
"Haha, I will leave you be now. See you later~" Blowing a kiss toward her grandfather, Liliana left the house and disappeared out of sight.
Meanwhile, the old man stood there for a long while, thinking deeply. He was going through his vast memory, trying to remember where he had heard that name before.
"I have certainly heard of it, but where?" Clicking his tongue, he turned around and walked toward a particular door. "I have to figure this out."

After disappearing, Liliana reappeared in the empty void of space. Darkness surrounded her in every direction, with far-distant stars twinkling brightly. She opened her eyes, stared around, and then her eyes fell on Earth.
A small smile formed on her face as she could finally go back to Jack. That boy made her boring days a lot more exciting, and even though she only knew him for a short period, he filled her world with things she thought she had long forgotten about.
Going back to him to continue their journey was something she couldn’t wait for. So, she snapped her finger and she disappeared again, reappearing in the bright skies of the planet.
She looked down at the ruined city. The destruction seemed to slow down considerably, and the city started looking like time had stopped for it.
"Hm?" However, Liliana immediately noticed something very odd. Her senses picked up on a big cluster of creatures in a location nearby. She didn’t even need to look in that direction to know where this cluster was.
"The base..." She muttered before she quickly flew down at an extremely fast speed. Reaching the location in a hurry, her heart started beating faster than usual.
There, she stopped and stared down, her eyes wide with shock. What she had seen at that moment completely flipped her head upside down.
"What... happened here?"
She was away for a day and a few hours... Only a day and a few hours, no more than 30 hours in total. Even with all the chaos happening in the world at that moment, 30 hours should never be enough to create the disaster that she was looking at.
Her heart sank, her lips quivered, and she found herself breathing audibly.
"Jack... Jack!"

*12 hours before Liliana’s arrival*
After their inspection mission, Jack and the other two headed back to the base. There was no sign of the insects moving toward them yet, which gave them some valuable time. That meant the death of the queen had affected them one way or the other. But, they couldn’t tell if that effect was good or not yet.
When they got back, they found that everyone was allowed inside, and the situation was more or less calmer now. Even as they stepped in, the eyes of scrutiny were few and far between toward Jack. His words had clearly changed the way they viewed him, and the respect he garnered yesterday was still intact, more or less.
So, the boy took that opportunity to take the second step. He personally made an offer for the rest of the groups to come with them to train and awaken. He knew that this situation had made many realize that they were far from safe and that Jack wasn’t enough to protect them.
The others who awakened also agreed to come out again to train and kill more undead. With that, the number of participants increased tremendously from dozens to hundreds and hundreds. Most were able-bodied, and even some who were injured or too old or young to participate were willing to go.
Then, that group left the base and, for the rest of the day, trained, learned, and honed their skills. Jack and the rest worked hard to make sure those who didn’t awaken yet would awaken now, and those who already awakened to start actually killing monsters on their own.
The process was tedious, but still quite fast. Jack found himself quickly creating a large army. Some were more talented than others and were learning faster, and some were slower, but still useful nonetheless.
By the time it was evening and the sun was setting, almost everyone was awakened, and some even leveled up a few times and gathered items and new skills. Nobody died, which was a major advantage for Jack, even better than the improvement everyone went through.
Exhausted, and a little bit more hopeful that tomorrow will be a better day, everyone finally headed back to the base to rest.
On the way, they gathered many supplies from nearby stores for food and heat. With that many people around, carrying those supplies was easier and quicker.
By the time everyone was back at the base, it was completely dark outside, and the quietness of the world finally settled down.
After making food, everyone finally sat down to rest and sleep. It was a long and brutal day, one that sucked everyone’s energy, including Jack. It was even more exhausting than the first day, and perhaps tomorrow will be even more exhausting.
It was a brutal cycle that saw no end. Perhaps Jack was cursed for eternal exhaustion after that day; he wouldn’t be surprised if that was the case.
As he sat in his bed, Jack finally opened his status menu to finally take a look at his progress. After killing the queen, he got no opportunity to see how much he had improved. The changes have gone past his power into his looks and body structure, even changing his appearance a lot. It was his biggest breakthrough so far.
’I have gained so much from that one single kill. I’m expecting something great.’ He rubbed his hair.
