My Evil Crown Prince-Chapter 100: Benjamin Is Dead
She frowned when the heat from the ray of sun bumped into her face. She could hear some chatter around her. They were distinct noises, but the voices were from Brie and Elisa.
"Will she be alright?" Brie asked in a worried tone.
"She has to. We’re talking about her position as the crown princess." Elisa answered.
She had no idea what Elisa’s words meant. Her head was throbbing in pain, but it was tolerable. She forced herself to open her eyes.
Brie saw her first and rushed toward her. Elisa then followed and the two helped her to sit on the bed.
"Are you alright?" Brie asked.
She nodded. "Yeah. Just a headache."
Elisa quickly took a glass of water when she pointed at it on the table. She felt so thirsty and hungry.
"Here. We prepared a light meal for you." Elisa said.
"What happened?" She asked after taking a slice of apple.
"You passed out because of a high fever." Brie whispered.
She didn’t answer. The last time she remembered was being carried by Caden into the car. She also remembered clearly that he was talking to a man before she fell asleep.
"How many hours did I sleep? Three hours? Six?" She asked.
Brie and Elisa glanced at each other.
"You were in bed for three days. We want to bring you to the hospital, but Caden insisted to get you treated here." Elisa answered.
Her eyes widened. She looked around and realized they were in her bedroom in Queen’s.
"Am I that sick?" She frowned.
Brie nodded. "The doctor said you were stressed. You lose weight and have anemia. She said you should rest for the time being."
She gulped and then took a deep breath. "Where is Caden?"
"In his room. Sleeping. He took care of you and had no sleep for three days. Caroline scolded him and convinced him to take a rest while we watch over you. He’s so worried and blamed himself."
"It wasn’t his fault. I was careless and weak. I should have prepared myself since I’m going to be queen someday, right?"
Elisa shook her head. "Hey, you’re not weak. If I were in your position, I might lose my sanity. Caden knows that. He blamed himself for forcing you to accept everything that easily. And he didn’t notice your health was getting affected."
"Let’s not talk about it for now. You should rest and don’t think of any of those things."
She nodded. She didn’t want to think about it either.
She had a lot of questions for Caden but her head was still in pain so she would ask him once she gets better. But then she remembered Benjamin.
"What happened to Benjamin?" She asked.
"He’s in jail. Again. Caden was trying to get him transferred to Flousia so he could continue his sentence there." Elisa said.
She felt relieved. For now, she could sleep and continue to rest without worrying.
Brie and Elisa forced her to eat. She had no appetite, but the two girls insisted that she had to because she was asleep for three days.
She couldn’t believe that she was on the bed, unaware of her surroundings for three consecutive days. According to Elisa, the doctor couldn’t explain why she didn’t wake up.
Lucas couldn’t recall if it happened to her when they were young. They tried to call their parents, but they were on a trip and didn’t answer. So they just assumed that it was the first time.
When she went back to bed, the girls left. Brie promised to bring her fresh flowers in the evening.
"Why didn’t you tell her?" Elisa asked.
Brie sighed. "I wanted to. But I think Caden should tell her."
They went to the garden to have some tea while they waited for the news about Benjamin.
"Do you think your cousin killed him?" Brie asked.
Elisa was taken aback. She was thinking about it the whole night and was unable to sleep.
"He has all the reasons to kill him. If he did, no one has the right to judge him." Elisa answered.
Brie didn’t answer. Like Caden, she also had a reason to kill Benjamin. Everyone had their reasons. But no one expected that there was someone who would actually do it.
In the morning of June 26 in the year 2023, Jonathan Trekker, known to everyone as Benjamin Miller, was found dead in his cell. He had a gunshot wound in his forehead. But it wasn’t the cause of death.
The boss of the Trekker Clan had been stabbed fifteen times in the chest then the killer shot him after.
It was on the news and on the internet since it happened. Everyone’s attention was on the man’s death. And everyone had their speculations.
"Why can’t we have a normal life?" Elisa pouted.
Brie giggled with her friend’s expression. "You’re a princess. Do you really expect to have a normal life? I am not from a royal family, but my life isn’t normal either." She laughed.
"That’s one of the reasons I want to get far away from my parents. I want to travel and explore the world. I don’t want to be kept in the palace." Elisa commented.
"I know you will. When everything’s in order, you can travel the world, Elisa." Brie smiled.
They were interrupted by Elijah who came running toward them.
"The police are on their way." He said.
Brie frowned. "On the way to where?"
Elijah panted. "Here. They will investigate everyone."
"What? Who gave them permission to investigate us?" Elisa exclaimed.
Lucas entered with a dark expression. He sat beside Brie and then drank the cup of tea in front of her.
"Lucas, will you allow them to enter Primrose? This place is off-limits. Everyone knows that." Elijah asked.
"Even if I refuse, they got their permission from the mayor. I called Dad and got lucky he answered."
"What did he say?" Brie asked.
Lucas took a deep long breath. "He said to let them be. If we’re not hiding anything, let them come."
Elisa banged the table and stood up. "This is an invasion of privacy. I won’t let them search my room"
"Well, they’ll just take a peek. Dad called the mayor. He gave him permission, but didn’t approve of the search warrant. So they’ll just come here to talk to us and look around. If they touch anything, the five families will sue them."
Elisa went back to her seat and crossed her arms. She was still pouting like a little girl, but no one could blame her. Primrose was a private compound and only the five wealthiest families lived there. The place was off-limits for years.
It was supposed to be the largest and the most expensive subdivision in Northbay, but the five heirs of the wealthiest families bought the land and decided to make it their private haven.
"Elijah, call Ron." Lucas ordered.
Elijah nodded and just after a minute, Ron arrived.
"Is everything prepared?" He asked Ron, his secretary.
"Yes, sir."
Lucas nodded. "Call the others, except Caden and Alira. Let them rest."
"Are you serious?" Elisa frowned.
"Yes. We have no choice." Lucas answered.
Before the police arrived, everyone gathered in the living room to talk about the investigation.
"Did anyone here kill Benjamin?" Caroline asked.
"Caroline!" Lucas glared at the girl.
"What? It’s better if we know the killer, right?"
Lucas shook his head in disbelief. Caroline was a pain in the ass since she only listens to her brother.
"Fine! If anyone here is guilty, speak. We want to know the truth." Lucas said in a firm tone.
"I thought it was just an investigation. But I think they will interrogate us." Skyler frowned.
"Just answer their questions. Don’t argue with them and please act natural." Lucas was staring at Caroline when he said those words.
No one expected that they will get investigated. But it was necessary to clear their names.
"They should be happy that he’s dead. He’s a pain in the ass and a threat to everyone. They should thank the person who killed him." Caroline commented.
"Even though he’s a criminal, he still has rights. And finding out the truth about his death is one of those rights. Let’s just follow the law and get over it." Lucas explained.
Nathalia pouted. "I bet they just wanted to see what’s inside Primrose. Who wouldn’t right? Even I was curious about this place when I found out I’ll be coming here."
Lucas sighed impatiently. "As I said, let’s get this over with calmly and peacefully. Understand?"
Although they were against it, everyone nodded and didn’t dare to argue with Lucas. They waited patiently in the living room and after half an hour, Ron came back with three men and a woman behind him.
"Boss, this is Investigator Lee and his men. They will conduct interviews and would like to see everyone’s room."
Lucas nodded.
"As I said on the phone, we agreed to be questioned and you can look around our house, but you have no right to touch and take anything." Lucas said in a firm tone.
