My Evil Crown Prince-Chapter 101: Who Killed Benjamin?
Investigator Lee nodded in agreement. The man was around his fifity’s and his men looked a lot younger.
Lucas looked at the man from head to toe. Then he turned to the other two men. The two younger investigators were wearing white long sleeves with black ties. While Investigator Lee was wearing a suit.
He took a glance at the woman who was wearing a white collared top and black slacks. They were decent and really looked like they were from the police.
"What’s their names?" Lucas asked.
"This is Investigator Josh and Bryan. And this is Investigator Keisha." The older investigator answered.
"How long they’ve been in service?" It was Skyler who asked next.
Investigator Lee frowned. They came to Queen’s to investigate the rich kids, but why was it looked like they were the ones being questioned? He thought inwardly.
"Josh and Keisha have been working with me for three years and Bryan was transferred to my team six months ago. But he’s been an investigator for four years." The investigator still answered.
Lucas nodded. The room went silent. Investigator Lee waited for an instruction, but a few minutes passed, and nobody uttered a word so the four felt a little awkward.
The investigator cleared his throat to break the silence.
"Shall we begin?" He asked.
Lucas nodded. "Do what you must."
"Thank you." Investigator Lee glanced at his colleagues. "Josh and I will look at the boys’ rooms. Keisha and Bryan will talk to the girls."
"Fine." Then Lucas nodded at the Jackson twins. "Go with Investigator Lee to check your rooms."
The twins didn’t complain and walked ahead of the investigators.
"Can we talk first to Miss Cross?"Bryan asked.
Lucas nodded. "It’s fine."
Brie stood up and was about to walk out when Lucas quickly grabbed her hand.
"Do you want me to come with you?" He asked.
Brie frowned. She saw Lucas seemed worried, but couldn’t understand the reason. She was just going to her room to get questioned.
"I’m fine, I think." She said.
"Okay. Call me if you need me." He said.
Lucas didn’t take his eyes off Brie until she disappeared from his sight.
"Call me if you need me?" Caroline chuckled. "You’re too obvious, Lucas." She laughed.
Lucas glared at Caroline. "Oh, shut up. You brat."
"What? Did we miss anything?" Elijah asked, curiosity was written on his face.
"Don’t ask. It’s nothing." Lucas said.
Caroline laughed out loud. "It’s nothing? Come on, Lucas! You like the girl. Everyone who lives here knows it, except for that genius hacker."
"You and Brie are not a couple? We thought you were just too shy to show your affection in public." Elisa frowned.
"They’re not. The girl is too vocal about her feelings, but too naive to feel that the guy she likes actually likes her, too. While Lucas is too shy to tell the truth, but didn’t realize he was showing everyone his true feelings." Caroline continued laughing.
"That’s crazy and well, stupid. Why can’t you tell her?" Natalia asked, curiosity piqued.
Caroline laughed again. She was the one answering the questions, and not Lucas.
"Because the girl is too young. She’s just fourteen and he’s willing to wait for her."
Natalia’s eyes became dreamy. "That’s so sweet!" She exclaimed.
"Will you stop talking about us? I wouldn’t deny it. Happy now? And you’re right. She’s still young. I can’t just tell her." Lucas answered.
Elijah and Elisa glanced at each other. It looked like Lucas was madly and deeply in love with the girl.
"Why? Everyone knows she likes you. And she confessed, right? Like what ten times?" Elijah asked.
"More than that. That girl confessed like eighty times already and literally threw herself into his bed every night." Caroline commented.
"What the hell! Caroline! How did you—"
"What? My room is next to hers and I could sense that she wasn’t sleeping in her room." Caroline cut Lucas’ stance.
Elijah couldn’t believe it. "I admire the girl’s courage. But I admire your self-control and patience."
Lucas sighed. "She got a big dream and I don’t want to ruin it. She’s young and she would eventually meet a lot of guys. She deserves someone better."
"And you think you’re not that someone?" Elisa asked.
Lucas nodded. "I am the heir of Wilson Group. I don’t know if I can make her happy. If she still wants me when she turned eighteen, I will ask her to marry me."
They were surprised. It was the first time Lucas became vocal about her feelings for Brie. If only the girl could hear Lucas’ confession.
"So you’re planning to confess when she turned eighteen?" Natalia asked.
Lucas nodded again. "On her eighteenth birthday, yes."
Inside Brie’s room, Keisha and Bryan were checking her things. As a deal with the Wilson Group, they were allowed to only look and not touch anything.
The girl’s room was neat. It smelled a mixture of lavender and vanilla scent. Three MacBooks were on the study table, but they didn’t wonder why. They knew Aubrey Tiffany Cross was a smart kid and according to reports, she was accelerated twice in Golden Oak High School.
They sat on the sofa in the room to start questioning the girl.
"Please state your full name." Bryan started.
"My name is Aubrey Tiffany Cross. But call me Brie." She said.
"How old are you, Brie?" Keisha asked.
"Fourteen. But I’ll be fifteen in the first month of next year."
Keisha put a mini recorder on the center table while Bryan started writing something in his small notebook.
"Do you know Benjamin Miller?"
Brie nodded. "Yes. But I knew him as Jonathan Trekker."
"And how did you know him?"
"My mother got acquainted with James Santelmo. I was born and raised for four years in the Santelmo household. The Santelmo Clan had a close connection to the Trekker Clan. I first met Jonathan during one of his visits to the mansion." 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
"What was he like?"
Brie frowned, trying to remember her first encounter with the old man.
"He was introduced by Paolo Santelmo as Jonathan Trekker, the Big Boss of the Underworld. I was three when I met him and of course, like any other old man, he smiled and patted me on the head. And the first thing he told me was ’You’ve grown.’
Keisha stared at the girl’s eyes and see no fear. She wasn’t lying or making up a story.
"According to our investigation, you were born in the Santelmo household because your mother married James Santelmo. You were his daughter for four years. How did you find out about your biological father, Andrew Cross?" Keisha asked.
Brie took a deep breath. It was something private and she didn’t want to talk about what happened in the past.
"Is it necessary to this investigation? You’re trying to find out the connection between me and Benjamin Miller and you want to know if I have a motive to kill him. Fine, I will tell you what you want to know."
The two investigators were surprised. The girl was really smart. They thought inwardly.
"I do have a motive to kill him. My mom left my dad because she was forced by the mafia. Everything was planned by Jonathan Trekker. If my foster father, James Santelmo, didn’t give my mother freedom, I would never meet my real dad. I was called a traitor’s daughter for years." She paused.
Then she sighed. "The man I love looked at me with disgust because I am the daughter of the woman who caused his sister’s trauma. So yes, I wanted to get my revenge. I wanted that man to die. I know the law. I can’t be put in jail because I’m a minor. But I am not that stupid. I spent four years in a household that lived by killing people and I know that even someone deserves death, killing them is still a crime."
Keisha and Bryan saw truth in Brie’s eyes. The girl was innocent. A smart and sweet girl like Brie would not waste her life for someone like Benjamin Miller. They thought.
"Where were you on the day Benjamin was killed?" Bryan asked.
"In a cafeteria. With Lucas. You want proof? Here."
Brie took her phone and showed the two investigators a photo of Lucas and her. There was a date and time on the lower left side of it.
"Is it okay if we get this photo?" Keisha asked.
Brie nodded. "I’ll send it to you. Besides, I uploaded it to my Instagram account so it’s literally not a private thing."
Keisha nodded. After receiving the photo, they looked around again in Brie’s room and decided to end the investigation on her. They couldn’t find anything that could link her to Benjamin’s death.
They went back to the living room where Lucas and the others were waiting. Brie was calm and didn’t seem bothered by the investigators.
"Why do you look so relaxed?" Keisha asked. She was curious about the girl’s actions.
"Do I have to be nervous? Do you require us to be scared of you? Whether we’re afraid or not, the truth will come out. That’s the reason of your investigation, right? To find out who killed Benjamin?" Brie smiled.
