My Fated Mate Can Have Her-Chapter 105: Narrow Escape
Violet
Two more of them rushed at me. One of the wolves leaped, this time aiming for my throat. I managed to avoid it when another set of teeth bit into my leg. I swallowed down the scream building up and grabbed the snout of the other one just as he was about to bit me again.
A powerful force pulled at my leg, the wolf trying to pull me down to the ground despite the tearing pain I felt in my leg, I held my ground, flinging the other wolf down on him. I gasped as they both yelped, finally letting go of my leg.
The remaining three wolves flinched. One of them took a step backwards, shock registering on their faces. The unkempt one cursed under his breath and ran towards me, shifting.
My syzygy lashed out instinctively, wrapping around all three of them.
The one heading towards me stopped mid-stride, held in place by me. The other two behind him were stiff. Their eyes all went wide with shock and terror as they realised, they couldn’t move, couldn’t escape, and couldn’t do anything but hang suspended.
My syzygy tremored slightly with the effort of holding them all. Three targets struggling against my grip, but within the next few seconds, I barely noticed the pull on my energy. It faded, as if I was getting used to it.
Either way, I was too angry to care.
I lifted them off the ground and with the swing of my arm, slammed them into opposite sides of the walls with brutal force.
Once.
Twice.
Three times.
The stone cracked under the impact, webbing outward as their bodies left dents in the solid surface.
On the fourth impact, they went limp.
I released them and they crumpled to the ground.
Silence fell over the alley.
The only sounds I could hear now were my harsh breathing and the soft whimpers of the wolves I had left bleeding and broken on the ground.
They were alive. All of them. But they wouldn’t be getting up anytime soon.
Aster was still pressed against the wall where they had left him. His eyes were huge, fixed on me with shock, fear, confusion, and... awe?
Then I noticed the cracks in the wall behind him. Deep fissures spreading outward from where I had slammed the wolves.
The damage was bad now that I looked at it, and I had not expected to hit them that hard.
To make matters worse, I could see wolves gathering at the alley entrance. Unsurprisingly, they had most likely heard the commotion. Some stared in shock. None of them looked ready to even intervene.
Rapidly approaching footsteps and paws hitting stone made me go still.
Patrol guards were likely coming.
This was bad...
How was I even going to explain this. Would I get in trouble? Before Kael even arrived to intervene, how would they treat me. He wasn’t even going to be around until tomorrow and—
Aster pushed off the wall and ran towards me. Grabbing my wrist, his eyes met mine, urgent and pleading.
"Follow me."
Aster pulled me away from the gathering crowd and towards the other end of the alleyway. I immediately noticed more people gathering too at the other far end. How were we going to leave this place?
My injured leg screamed in protest with every step, but I kept me moving.
The patrol guards were getting closer and the thundering of their footsteps were so purposeful it made my heart hammer against my ribs. The patrol guards would catch up. They were trained, fast, and I was injured, but I could still likely outrun them. Aster was quick, but still not fast enough.
My mind raced through many options. Should I stop and face them? Try to explain? Would they even listen to an Omega, or would they assume the worst when they saw what I had left behind? I had the card with me so things might likely go my way? However, my doubt and fear grew. I didn’t know much about the Capital’s laws.
I was about to tell Aster to let me carry him so he could guide the way, he made a sharp turn to the right, through an even tighter passage way. The walls scraped against my sides, especially my injured arm, but I forced myself to bear it.
The cramped path slowly started to widen out.
"Where are you going?" I called out, "I can carry you. We would be faster that way!"
He didn’t even answer me or look back. We made another sudden turn that led us down a set of winding stone steps which were uneven and worn smooth by years of use.
At the base of the steps, tucked against the side of one of the buildings, was a tiny gate made of metal bars that had rusted at the edges but still looked sturdy enough.
Aster pulled it open with surprising ease and immediately dropped to his hands and knees, crawling inside.
I stared at the opening, my mind trying to process what I was seeing.
I surely couldn’t fit in...
"Come!" Aster’s voice echoed from inside and aware of the growing urgency of the situation, I crouched down and followed him in.
The gate slid shut behind us with a soft metallic sound that made me flinch. I tried turning back to check if I could open it again from this side. My heart stuttered when I realized how narrow the space was.
The passage was barely wide enough for me to move forward on my hands and knees. The walls pressed close on either side, and the ceiling, if it could even be called that, was so low I had to keep my head ducked to avoid scraping it against the rough stone.
My throat tightened. I could easily get stuck here!
Aster was already crawling forward in front of me, his small form disappearing into the darkness ahead. I forced myself to keep moving, to follow the sound of his movements and the faint outline of his shape in the darkness.
