My Fiancé's Scandals Never End, So I Married His Uncle Instead-Chapter 53: Can’t Bear To
Kian Sterling was the kind of person who commanded attention wherever he went. The moment he appeared in the corner where Celia Sterling was, he drew a great many eyes.
From the terrace, Silas Norwood had been keeping an eye on Celia Sterling. The sweet, delicate girl was sitting obediently by the staircase, playing on her phone. It was hardly a big deal, but for some reason, Kian Sterling had lost his temper, marching over and snapping at her within minutes of finding her. Silas couldn’t sit still any longer. He decided to follow his protective instincts and back up his girlfriend.
As soon as he appeared in the banquet hall, his refined and elegant presence immediately drew even more gazes. A slight stir rippled through the crowd.
A few bodyguards moved forward with practiced ease, cordoning off the crowd of onlookers. The banquet hall was already bustling, and with the music creating a lively atmosphere, Kian Sterling’s conversation couldn’t be overheard from a distance.
Only Quinn Sinclair and Kian Sterling heard Silas Norwood’s protective words.
Quinn Sinclair knew exactly whose smut Celia Sterling was reading. The moment Silas Norwood appeared, her pleading gaze toward Celia shifted to one of strange pity.
"Jumping to her defense already?" Kian Sterling glanced at Silas Norwood. "Do you have any idea what she’s doing?"
Silas Norwood’s gentle voice held a hint of a chill. "Cece isn’t a child, Kade. You can’t interfere in everything she does. Even if she did something inappropriate, you could have just talked to her about it. You nearly scolded her to tears just now."
Kian Sterling’s voice was low, tinged with a strange annoyance. "She’s reading smut."
Silas Norwood: "..."
Celia Sterling kept her head bowed low, not daring to meet Silas Norwood’s eyes.
Kian Sterling reached out and tried to snatch the phone from Celia Sterling’s hand, but after a few tugs, it wouldn’t budge. He lowered his gaze and watched her in silence. After holding out for several seconds under the stifling pressure, Celia let go as if the phone had scalded her.
Kian Sterling took her phone and casually scrolled through the document on the screen. His expression faltered, his slight annoyance replaced by a deep silence.
Seeing Celia Sterling’s mortified expression, Silas Norwood recovered after a few seconds and spoke magnanimously again. "Cece is at an age where she’s curious about everything. Reading that kind of story is hardly a big deal."
"Is that so?" Kian Sterling slowly handed the phone to him. "It’s about you."
What did he mean by "about you"?
Silas Norwood took the phone. As his eyes fell on the screen, he saw his own name—Silas Norwood—displayed brazenly on the page. The author wrote like they were starved for action, with shockingly explicit scenes. The document’s title was also quite eye-catching: *Moonlight’s Secret Affair: Doting on Nineteen Wives Night After Night*.
Silas Norwood, too, fell abruptly silent.
This silence lasted until the Eldest Young Master of the Sinclair Family came looking for them himself.
"I heard my sister was over here with Chairman Sterling." The Eldest Young Master Sinclair was unaware of the situation and looked a bit surprised at Quinn Sinclair’s panicked and disheveled state. "What’s going on?"
"It’s nothing." Kian Sterling deleted the document from Quinn Sinclair’s phone and handed it back to the Eldest Young Master Sinclair. "It seems Third Miss Sinclair has had too much free time lately. Eldest Young Master Sinclair, you should find something for her to do, lest she spend her days leading my Cece astray."
The Eldest Young Master Sinclair’s heart skipped a beat. Although he didn’t know what kind of trouble his sister had caused this time, it hadn’t been long since Quinn Sinclair had taken Celia Sterling to a club to find male models. He felt a pang of apprehension and quickly agreed.
"Rest assured, Chairman Sterling. For at least the next three months, Quinn won’t have time to see Miss Sterling."
With that, he took Quinn Sinclair’s hand, only to find that the palms of this usually fearless girl were slick with sweat, and her steps were unsteady.
"What did you drag Miss Sterling into this time?" he asked in a low voice once they were a good distance away. "Don’t you know how much Kian Sterling treasures Celia Sterling?"
Quinn Sinclair was on the verge of tears. "Facing Kian Sterling’s full force head-on... it’s terrifying..."
By the flower trellis, only Celia Sterling was left.
This was a public place, after all, and hardly suitable for handling family matters. Kian Sterling wrapped an arm around Celia Sterling’s waist. Feeling her tremble in his grasp like a terrified, mortified rabbit, he loosened his grip slightly and gave Silas Norwood a look.
"Let’s talk somewhere else."
The place they moved to was the same terrace where Silas Norwood had been earlier.
Cordoned off by layers of bodyguards, the private space was suitable for discussing absolutely confidential topics. Kian Sterling first had someone deliver a large pot of buckwheat tea and poured Celia Sterling a full glass.
"You’ve been looking at so much stimulating material. This should help you cool down."
Celia Sterling looked at the clear, bitter tea, and her expression soured to match. She finally couldn’t help but surrender in a low voice, "Brother... Silas... I was wrong."
"How were you wrong?" Kian Sterling asked, though he already knew the answer.
Celia Sterling didn’t dare look at Silas Norwood, who was sitting on the other side. "I shouldn’t have been looking at things I shouldn’t."
Kian Sterling shot a look at Silas Norwood, who was gazing down and toying with the thumb ring on his finger. "You were so eager to defend her earlier. Why are you so quiet now?"
Silas Norwood sidestepped the question. "I’ve already had my assistant look into this. All original copies of the document will be destroyed within a week."
Kian Sterling sneered. "And what about your fiancée? Aren’t you going to discipline her?"
Celia Sterling secretly glanced at Silas Norwood, her ears perked.
Silas Norwood was silent for a few seconds. He moved the bitter tea away from Celia Sterling, replaced it with a milk tea, and then said softly, "I can’t bring myself to."
Celia Sterling froze for a moment, a warmth spreading through her heart.
Kian Sterling didn’t mock him. His sharp gaze rested on Silas Norwood for a long while before gradually softening. Finally, he personally poured him a cup of tea.
"Cece is playful. I’m afraid she’ll be a handful for you from now on, Silas."
Silas Norwood left through a side door. He disliked making a fuss and departed quietly, not even greeting the members of the Norwood Family in the banquet hall. Surrounded by a group of bodyguards, he exited the manor’s main gate.
Celia Sterling walked him out personally. They walked hand in hand between the darkness and the lights. Silas Norwood was silent the whole way, so Celia was the one to speak first. "Silas, I promise I won’t look at that kind of stuff anymore."
Silas Norwood’s voice was gentle, tinged with a strange undertone. "Cece, I’m not that angry. I just feel... you’re missing the point."
"Missing the point?"
"I’m your boyfriend," Silas Norwood sighed softly. "Other people write that stuff because they can’t have the real thing."
He leaned down, moving closer to her, his voice low and husky. "But you can."
His warm breath stopped just half a centimeter from her neck, a breath of both restraint and temptation. But just as the tips of her ears turned crimson, he pulled back, his tone becoming prim and proper once more.
"You should get back and rest, too. I’ll come pick you up for the airport tomorrow morning."
After speaking, he gently patted her head, and his noble figure disappeared into the night.
「Jade Orchid Manor.」
Assistant Thorne was packing a suitcase. As Silas Norwood’s personal assistant, he also needed to accompany him to Seraphina to manage Silas’s various personal effects. Inside the suitcase were clothes he had prepared according to Silas’s daily habits and preferences. After checking everything one last time, he called Theo Chambers.
"Chief Assistant Chambers, are you sure the boss isn’t traveling alone this time?"
"Miss Sterling will be going with him," Theo Chambers thoughtfully instructed. "Prepare some couple’s items—matching mugs, toothbrush holders, matching slippers, that sort of thing. Anyway, you have more experience in this area than I do, so I’ll leave it to your discretion."
Assistant Thorne nodded in acknowledgment. After a moment’s thought, he placed an unopened box of adult products into the very bottom layer of the suitcase.
