Chapter 96: 96. Who Will Win.

"Ladies and gentlemen. As we all know. Scores determine the ranks of the contestants."

"But when scores are unable to do so, then we have but one choice left."

"To decide through direct combat," Lilith announced, and the crowd erupted before she could continue.

"Woohoo!!"

"Hell yeah!! Now, we get to see some intense action!!"

"Finally, this is what I was hoping for."

After a while, the arena quieted again, and Lilith’s eyes found Aster and the remaining contestants.

"Contestants. You all stand at the summit together, but only one may stand above the rest."

"Therefore, the tournament will conclude with two final matches."

"The third-place duel."

"Followed by the final duel."

Spectators remained silent, and the tension continued to rise as Aster slowly exhaled while Astrid closed her eyes for half a second.

When she opened them again, she focused her gaze on Lilith.

But Lilith had turned away to signal the officials into motion.

Then she turned around to face the contestants once again.

"Contestants, you all will be given time to rest, and once it’s time to return, you’ll be summoned back here."

Everyone bowed and returned to have a moment of rest and concentration.

Since the tournament had reached its final stage, it made sense for the contestants to be well-rested before they could be pulled back to the arena.

And so, the arena was reshaped in silence with stone plates sliding outwards while barriers rose and locked into their respective positions.

The floor also darkened and was still scorched from previous trial battles, then it reforged into a wide circular battlefield with no cover and no terrain advantage to anyone who might have thought of using it.

The projection crystals focused inward as two figures stepped forward from opposite sides.

It was the Capra Demon Prince and the Pyro Demon Prince.

They stopped at equal distances from the center, and neither bowed to each other nor did they speak as well.

Seems like both were completely focused on what they were going to do to win this battle

The heat around Drax shimmered around his body, and the air warped faintly around his shoulder as molten veins pulsed beneath his red skin.

Then his human appearance slowly morphed into that of his demon form, and his four arms flexed slowly as he cracked his knuckles gently.

Across from him, Saber rolled his neck once while resting his spear loosely against his shoulder, and his silver colored hair stirred in the rising heat, but his stance remained relaxed and balanced.

Watching all these, the crowds leaned forward as they whispered to each other.

"This is going to be ugly."

"Yeah, tell me about it."

"Moreover, it seems like there won’t be barriers."

"Yeah, but who cares. It seems like all the contestants are fresh enough to go all out, so it’s really exciting to see what’s going to happen."

The spectators continued to feel excited, but Lilith appeared above the arena floor, floating just high enough to be seen by all the combatants.

"Third-place duel," she announced calmly.

"Are you both ready ?"

"Begin."

Drax moved first, and the ground cracked as he launched forward, with his four arms igniting at once.

A shockwave rippled outward as his fist slammed down where Saber had been standing a heartbeat earlier.

Stones exploded.

But Saber was already gone.

He slid sideways with minimal movement, with his spear flashing as he swept low.

The blade scraped across Drax’s leg, with sparks bursting where metal met magma-hardened flesh.

Feeling this, Drax laughed.

"Too light and too soft. Let me show you how a real demon punches." He said, then he twisted and swung, with fire tearing outward in a wide arc.

But Saber leaped back, with his boots skidding as heat licked past his ribs.

The projection crystals zoomed in, and Drax pressed harder as flames poured from his arms, with each strike heavier than the last.

He did not bother with finesse, and he advanced like a walking catastrophe, with fists slamming, elbows driving, and heat building with every breath he took.

Saber retreated.

But only barely.

Then, Step by step, he adjusted with each movement becoming smaller and each dodge getting tighter.

This was something the spectators wondered about.

"Why is he backing up?"

"He’s losing ground."

"No, he’s measuring his opponent’s strength."

"Yeah, I think so too."

"But that sucks."

"Yeah!! Just punch him in the face and win!!"

"Yeah!!!!"

Almost as though he had heard what one of the spectators had said, Drax roared and brought both upper arms down in a hammer strike.

But Saber stepped inside the blow while his spear reversed in his grip and drove forward, straight into Drax’s side.

The impact stung, and Drax staggered half a step, with his eyes widening in surprise.

Then he grabbed the shaft, and Fire surged down the weapon.

Saber released it instantly, before flipping backward as the spear melted at the grip point and collapsed into slag.

Seeing this, Drax grinned, and smoke curled from his mouth as he lunged again.

This time, Saber did not retreat.

He stepped forward, and their auras collided, causing a large detonation.

Stone fractured beneath their feet as Saber slammed his shoulder into Drax’s chest, redirecting the charge just enough to throw him off balance.

Then a knee followed, and then a palm strike to the throat.

Drax reeled back while coughing fire, but the crowd exploded in excitement.

.

"Yeah, finally, he hit him."

"What a clean strike!!"

"I love it!!"

"That was perfect timing."

Drax straightened slowly, and the heat around him intensified.

His skin cracked, with molten light spilling through like veins of lava.

Then his eyes burned brighter as he inhaled deeply.

"You should have finished it when you had the chance to win, " He said while spreading his arms, and the arena temperature spiked violently.

Flames erupted outward before flooding the battlefield in a spiraling inferno.

The projection crystals dimmed momentarily to compensate for this, and Saber’s eyes narrowed.

Then he exhaled, and he moved, not away but through.

In fact, He sprinted straight into the heat, with his aura compressed tightly around his body.

Then the flames peeled around him, which were slowed by sheer control rather than resistance.

And Drax’s eyes widened as Saber leaped and twisted his body before driving his fist into Drax’s jaw with everything he had left.

The impact snapped Drax’s head sideways as he crashed into a nearby stone, skidding across the floor before slamming into the barrier with a thunderous crack.
