Chapter 76: [Chapter - 68] - Dinner Plan or Prison Date?
Chapter - 68
Lucius leaned back in the passenger seat with one hand resting on his thigh and the other behind the back of his head. He looked sideways at Elena with the corners of his eyes who was driving with both hands, her brows slightly furrowed.
"Lucius..." she said softly, turning to him, "I am really sorry about what happened back there. I just wanted you to have a nice dinner tonight."
Lucius waved his hand casually and gave her a reassuring smile, "Come on, Elena. That was just a minor hiccup. Not your fault. I know how to deal with such idiots."
He glanced out the window briefly, then added with a small smirk, "We could always finish the rest of the dinner somewhere else."
He turned back to her slowly, raising a brow, voice lowering just a bit, "Maybe... at your place?"
[Ohhhooo... Suggestive move detected.]
[You are finally acting like the main character, master. Quest loading...]
Elena blinked, surprised. Her lips parted slightly as if she didn’t expect that suggestion, but then her expression softened.
"I really ruined your meal, didn’t I?" she asked, "You didn’t even get to eat properly."
"I should have chosen a different place,"
Lucius shrugged, still smiling, "I am more hungry now, actually. I want to try something else."
Elena chuckled, not realizing the meaning behind his words, "Okay then. Let’s go to my place. We will order something."
Lucius grinned wide when she agreed.
Under his breath, he muttered with amusement, "Guess I will get arrested tomorrow morning... from her bed."
"What was that?" Elena asked, looking sideways at him.
Lucius straightened and quickly waved his hand, "Nothing. Just admiring the view and the company."
"Oh Stop it, you flirt," Elena’s cheeks turned red hearing his compliment.

"Five hours?" he whispered to himself.
[You better not waste time, Master. This is a generous deadline.]
Lucius chuckled, shaking his head.
"Oh wow, how kind of you," he said sarcastically, "Can I maybe get a timer on the wall?"
[Focus, Master. You think this is a walk in the park? Don’t forget the consequences of failing the quest]
Lucius sighed dramatically, "So what happens if I fail? I get electrocuted? That’s your idea of punishment?"
[Ohhh... Yes. Electricity. The spicy kind. But don’t worry, I will make sure you will feel it]
Lucius smirked, "Great. Maybe I can use that electricity to charge my phone. Or light up the room. Might be romantic."
[You are taking it too easy master]
As the car continued moving, Lucius was still in his sarcastic banter with the System and his mind was filled with flirtatious plans and wild imagination. So immersed was he that he didn’t even notice the change in scenery outside the window.
It wasn’t until the car slowed down and came to a halt in front of a large gate that Lucius blinked and looked around.
"Huh...?" he muttered, sitting up straighter.
There was a security booth at the entrance, and standing inside it was a man in a dark blue uniform. But this didn’t look like normal building security.
This man had a gun on his hip. And he looked like a real cop.
Lucius narrowed his eyes.
The guard looked at Elena, gave a small nod, and pressed a button. The heavy iron gates began to open slowly with a mechanical creak.
"Elena?" Lucius said slowly, "Where... Do you live exactly?"
But Elena didn’t answer immediately, she just kept driving.
Lucius looked outside again. The road was surrounded by high fences topped with barbed wire. Bright white lamps lit up the sides of the road like floodlights. It felt more like entering a secure facility than a residential area.
Then, the car stopped.
Elena turned off the engine and looked at him, "We are here."
Lucius turned to her slowly, confusion growing on his face with every passing second. He opened the door and stepped out.
And there it was.
Right in front of him.
CITY PRISON.
The words were engraved into the stone archway. The tall building behind the gates had high watchtowers, barred windows, and patrolling guards.
Lucius stood still. His face blanked for a second.
After him, Elena also stepped out of the car, brushing her hair behind her ear as if this was all normal.
Lucius turned to her sharply.
"Hold on... I thought we were going to your place," he said, a nervous smile on his lips, "Not... prison."
Elena looked confused for a moment, "What?"
"You told me tomorrow was my arrest," Lucius said, "I mean that is in itself. But did you just bring me here to speed things up?"
She frowned immediately and shook her head, "No! No, no—Lucius, that’s not what I meant. This isn’t—"
"What this isn’t? How can you do this to..."
But before he could finish, a deep voice interrupted from behind Lucius.
"Heh... So this is the brat who my daughter can’t stop talking about?"
Lucius froze when he heard the voice behind him and turned slowly.
And standing there was a tall man in a full police uniform. Broad shoulders. Grey hair. Sharp eyes.
The badge on his chest read:
Warden K. Frost
Lucius’s mouth opened slightly, "... Daughter?" he repeated.
Elena, facepalming beside him, groaned, "I was trying to tell you..." Then she turned towards her father.
"Lucius, this is my..." Elena started, but before she could finish, the tall man in uniform raised a hand.
"Enough," he said in a deep, firm voice. He didn’t even look at Lucius. His eyes were sharp, cold, and fixed straight ahead.
Without another word, her father walked past both of them and opened the front passenger door of the car. He sat down, adjusted his seat with the practiced motion of someone who hated wasting time, and closed the door with a dull thud.
Lucius stood frozen outside, mouth half open, looking at Elena with wide eyes.
He mouthed silently, "What the hell is happening?"
Elena sighed and leaned close, whispering just loud enough for him to hear, "I told you we would finish dinner at my place." freewebnσvel.cѳm
She added with a small, apologetic smile, "I am here to pick up my dad. We are all going to have dinner together."
Lucius’s face went pale, "What?!"
He nearly stumbled backward, his expression horrified like someone just told him the meal included poison.
"Ahhh... Man!" Still confused and in shock, he forced himself into the back seat, while Elena calmly walked to the driver’s side and sat down, starting the car.
The vehicle rolled forward smoothly, the streetlights painting golden streaks on the windshield. For a while, there was just... silence.
Awkward, heavy silence of the kind that made you feel the weight of every breath you took.
Lucius sat in the back seat like a guilty teenager, his hands on his lap. Elena didn’t say anything either. But every few seconds, she glanced at Lucius through the rear-view mirror, her eyes filled with nervous amusement.
"Eyes on the road," her father said sharply, still looking ahead.
"Yes, sir," Elena replied instinctively like it was muscle memory.
Lucius bit his lip, trying not to smile. The tension was thick, but oddly, he felt a little amused too.
Then her father finally spoke, "Lucius, was it?"
Lucius cleared his throat and leaned slightly forward, "Yes, sir."
"What do you do?" He asked.
"I am personal assistant to Iris Levain at Levain Industries," Lucius answered, keeping his voice polite, "But I am good with people. Fast learner. Very resourceful."
The Warden grunted, "You sound like an errand boy."
Lucius chuckled, "That’s one way to put it, sir."
Elena choked on a laugh but quickly coughed to cover it up.
Warden Frost continued as he turned his head a little, looking out the window, "You know my daughter used her one favour this year to delay your arrest by a day?"
Lucius’s eyes widened, "She... what?"
"Dad Stop..." Elena tried, but her father ignored her.
"She asked me to pull some strings. Just one day. That’s all she asked. She said she had a promise to keep."
Warden Frost sighed, "She insisted you weren’t a threat. That there is more to your story than what the investigation said."
Lucius looked between them, "I don’t know what to say."
"Say thank you," the Warden replied.
Lucius nodded slowly, "Thank you, sir. I mean it."
"Not me.. You should be grateful to my daughter," Warden Frost quickly corrected him. And hearing him, Lucius turned his gaze towards the mirror where Elena was looking at him as he mouthed, ’Thank you’ to her.
For a moment, the air felt warmer. The tension dropped just a bit. Lucius sat up straighter, feeling a strange sense of respect for the old man. He was strict, maybe cold, but he cared about his daughter.
’Maybe he is not so bad after all,’ Lucius thought.
But maybe he spoke too soon. Just as the car reached the main road, the Warden looked straight ahead and said calmly, "Elena. Stop the car."
"What?" Elena asked, confused.
"Stop the car," he repeated.
Lucius looked around nervously. They weren’t near any restaurants. This was just a quiet roadside with barely any traffic.
Elena hesitated, then slowly pulled over, "Dad, what are you—"
The Warden cut her off, "Boy, you can get off here."
Lucius blinked, "Huh?"
Elena looked back at Lucius, panicked, "Dad, wait, that’s not..."
"Out," he repeated, "Now."
Lucius sighed. He knew better than to argue. He pushed the door open and stepped out into the night.
The car window rolled down.
The Warden reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a $100 bill. He extended it toward Lucius, "Here. Get home safely."
Lucius just stared at the money for a second. Then, slowly, he took it.
Elena tried to say something, but her father raised a hand again.
"Elena," he said sternly, "Drive."
"Dad, please..."
"Now."
Elena had no choice now. Lucius stood on the sidewalk, watching the car roll forward slowly... and then drive away.
Just like that, he was left behind. And soon the taillights of the car disappeared into the distance.
[That... was tragic]
Lucius narrowed his eyes, "Don’t start."
[Don’t be mad at me. You had one job, Master. One job. And now look at you. Dumped on the roadside like old trash]
Lucius gritted his teeth, "Shut. Up."
[Well, maybe you should have ACTUALLY shown this attitude to complete the quest. But hey... At least you got a hundred bucks, right? And oh wait...]
Lucius’s eyes widened.
"Wait... Don’t do it..."
[System Notification: QUEST FAILED – ’Make the Sexy, Blonde Cop Scream’]
[Penalty Initiated – Electric Shock Incoming]
"Wait wait wait, I—!"
But before he could say another word, pain surged through his body like lightning. His muscles tensed and his eyes rolled back.
Lucius dropped to the ground, body twitching violently on the cold pavement. Sparks danced over his skin for a few seconds before they finally stopped.
Lucius lay there, face up, smoking slightly.
[On the bright side... At least now you are sizzling hot.]
