Chapter 42: Chapter 42

At that moment Edward leaned back, arms crossed over his chest, a mocking smirk plastered across his face as he watched Valentina struggle to keep her composure.

"Lock her up," he ordered casually, as if he were sending a stray dog to the pound.

"I don’t have time to waste on her nonsense again."

Again the police officer hesitated, shifting on his feet. But before he could move, Valentina snapped her head toward him, eyes burning with anger.

"So this is how you behave?" she demanded, her voice sharp and filled with resentment.

"You just lock people up because Edward has money? Because Victoria has connections?"

However the officer didn’t respond. He simply kept his gaze forward, stiff and unreadable.

Valentina took a step forward, her jaw clenched.

"What is my offense?"she pressed. "Tell me, right here, right now—what crime have I committed? What law did I break?"

However there was silence.

Not one of them spoke.

Edward’s smirk faltered slightly, but he quickly recovered, scoffing under his breath.

At that moment Valentina exhaled sharply, forcing herself to stay composed, even as frustration burned through her veins.

"I want to speak to my lawyer,"she declared. "Give me a phone. I have the right to call my lawyer."

Hearing what Valentina just said Edward let out a low chuckle, shaking his head. "A lawyer? What lawyer?"

The officers exchanged glances, but none of them moved to hand her a phone.

Valentina didn’t have a lawyer. She knew that. She just needed an opening—a way to contact Raymond.

If she had to search for him online, she would.

If she had to dial every number she remembered, she would. One way or another—she was getting out of here.

The cold air in the room felt suffocating as Valentina clenched her fists, her mind racing for a way out.

She couldn’t let them throw her into that cell. It would be humiliating, and she knew that once she was inside, Edward and Victoria would make sure she never left without paying a severe price.

Again the police officer hesitated, his grip on the handcuffs loosening slightly.

Valentina’s words had hit a nerve. He knew they had nothing solid to hold her. He knew this was a power play, nothing more. But orders from the higher-ups weren’t something he could ignore.

He looked at Edward, then at Victoria, as if silently questioning if they were really doing the right thing.

Before he could speak, the manager’s voice cut through the tension like a blade.

"Edward, you’re making a huge mistake." His voice was firm, unwavering.

Victoria turned on him immediately, her face twisting with disgust.

"A mistake?" She let out a harsh laugh, stepping toward him with slow, deliberate strides. "I warned you, didn’t I? But you refused to listen. Now look at you—disgraced, about to lose everything because you let a little beauty cloud your judgment."

The manager’s jaw tightened, but he held his ground.

Victoria’s eyes gleamed with cruel amusement as she crossed her arms. "This should be a lesson for you. Next time, be mindful of what you do. Some people are meant to stay beneath us."

She turned to the officers with a mocking smile.

"Take them away. Both of them."

The officers moved forward, but the manager didn’t flinch. Instead, he looked at Victoria with an expression of quiet defiance.

The tension in the room was thick, suffocating. Just moments ago, Edward and Victoria had been gloating, savoring Valentina’s humiliation.

But that triumph was short-lived.

The door to the interrogation room swung open, and immediately the air shifted.

The boss Mr Maximilian walked in, his presence commanding and absolute. The room fell silent, as if the very walls recognized his authority.

Immediately Edward’s smirk disappeared instantly. His hands tightened into fists as he took an instinctive step forward.

Victoria, who had been standing tall and proud just moments ago, suddenly felt the air leave her lungs.

This wasn’t supposed to happen.

And then, to their greatest shock, Maximilian eyes locked onto Valentina.

What happened next was unbelievable.

The man—the one Edward had just spoken to on the phone, the one they had all assumed would tear Valentina apart—rushed toward her.

Without hesitation, he bowed deeply—ninety degrees.

The entire room froze.

Immediately Edward’s face drained of color. His body went rigid, his lips parting slightly in disbelief.

Victoria clutched her purse so tightly her knuckles turned white. She couldn’t breathe.

This wasn’t real. But it was.

The boss straightened himself, his voice filled with sincerity and urgency.

"Miss Valentina, I deeply apologize for this grave mistake. My staff has acted recklessly and dishonorably. Please, forgive their ignorance."

His tone was filled with respect. It wasn’t forced. It wasn’t rehearsed. It was genuine.

Seeing what just happened Valentina stood there, frozen, struggling to comprehend what just happened. She hadn’t expected this.

Not this.

Not the man in charge bowing before her. She had been ready to defend herself, to fight back, to demand answers. But now, her words caught in her throat.

Everything in the room had changed. And Edward and Victoria?

They were terrified.

The room was even more deathly silent.

Valentina couldn’t move. She couldn’t even blink as she watched the most powerful man in the company bow before her.

Her mind started racing even more. She didn’t understand. Why was he apologizing?

Even Edward, who had been so full of himself minutes ago, looked frozen in disbelief. His lips trembled, his eyes darting between the boss and Valentina, trying to make sense of what was happening.

But then, as if reality finally slammed into him, Edward suddenly jerked upright.

His shock turned into desperation.

"Mr Maximilian, you don’t understand!" He blurted, stepping forward in haste. "This woman—she’s a fraud! She took the items using dishonest means! She tricked our manager into giving them to her! I was about Executing your instruction to lock her up, before you came in!"

His voice was loud, frantic, almost pleading.

The moment those words left his mouth, the boss’s expression darkened.

At that moment he turned slowly, his sharp gaze slicing through Edward like a blade.

A heavy silence followed.

Then—without warning—his hand flew across Edward’s face.

"SLAP!"

The impact echoed through the room.

The impact Edward stumbled backward, his vision blurring for a second. A burning sensation spread across his cheek.

Victoria gasped. The officers stiffened. The manager looked down, not daring to show his relief.

Edward looked up in shock, but the boss wasn’t done.

"You absolute fool." His voice was sharp, laced with rage.

Edward clutched his face, his eyes wide.

The boss stepped closer, his presence suffocating.

"How dare you speak when you don’t know who you’re dealing with?" His voice was low, controlled, but deadly.
