Chapter 47: Chapter 47

Raymond’s mother widened her eyes, instinctively trying to move back, but there was nowhere to go. The way they had just teased Valentina left her no excuse.

"Oh, you old fool," she muttered under her breath, her cheeks flushing, but before she could protest any further, Raymond’s father pressed a light kiss on her lips.

Immediately Valentina clapped her hands together, laughing brightly at the scene.

"This is so romantic!" she exclaimed, her eyes gleaming with admiration.

"Even at this age, you two are still like newlyweds. I love it! I’m going to make sure Raymond and I are just like this when we grow old together."

Raymond glanced at her, a small, amused smile tugging at his lips.

"Oh? So you admit we’re a couple now?" he teased.

Valentina nudged his arm playfully, her laughter soft but genuine.

The room filled with warmth and joy, their previous conversation melting into easygoing happiness. After dinner, Raymond and Valentina excused themselves, walking together toward their bedroom, side by side, their hands brushing against each other lightly.

As soon as Raymond and Valentina disappeared into their room,

Cecilia turned sharply toward Benjamin, her expression shifting from playful to deadly serious.

Without warning, she smacked him hard on the back, Making Benjamin father stumble forward slightly.

"You fool!" she hissed, her eyes narrowing dangerously.

"Don’t you ever pull that nonsense again!"

At that moment Benjamin rubbed his back, wincing, but grinning mischievously.

"What nonsense? I was just showing Raymond and his wife how to keep their marriage exciting."

His grin vanished instantly when his Cecilia leaned in closer, her voice dropping to a lethal whisper.

"Next time you try something like that in front of them, I’ll make sure to circumcise you again myself!"

Benjamin froze, his face draining of color.

"W-What kind of threat is that?" he stammered, shifting uncomfortably.

Cecilia folded her arms, raising a brow. "A very real one. I’m warning you, this is the last time you’ll try something like that with me in front of them!"

Then Benjamin cleared his throat awkwardly, nodding quickly.

"Alright, alright, no need to get violent. I was just—"

"Just being a fool!" she snapped.

He sighed defeatedly, but as soon as Cecilia turned her back, he shook his head and muttered under his breath.

"Chasing you for decades, and she still threatens me like we’re friends," he grumbled.

"What did you say?!"

"Nothing, Cecilia!" he answered instantly, straightening up as if nothing had happened.

As Cecilia walked away, her expression still stern, Benjamin smirked to himself, watching her retreating figure.

"Last warning, huh?" he muttered under his breath, crossing his arms with amusement.

"If this is what it takes to get close to her again, then I’ll gladly take my chances."

He chuckled to himself, adjusting his collar, already planning his next move.

"Thank God Valentina will be around for a while. This is my perfect opportunity."

With that, he stretched his arms lazily, a mischievous grin still on his face, and walked away.

Inside their room, Raymond leaned against the door, watching Valentina as she slowly removed her scarf and sat at the edge of the bed. Her expression was distant, her fingers lightly tracing the delicate emerald ring on her finger.

"Valentina," Raymond’s voice was calm yet firm, his eyes sharp with realization.

"The necklace your mother was wearing in the picture... you lost it, didn’t you?"

At that moment, Valentina’s entire body stiffened, her fingers clenching tightly around the fabric of her dress.

"I didn’t lose it," she murmured, her voice low and bitter.

Raymond took a step closer, sensing the storm of emotions beneath her composed exterior.

She slowly lifted her head, her eyes dark with restrained anger, before she finally spoke.

"It was stolen from me."

Raymond’s brows furrowed, waiting for her to continue.

"Chloe," Valentina spat the name out like venom, her jaw tightening. "She and my stepmother sold it at an auction."

Raymond’s eyes darkened, understanding the weight of her words.

"They sold your mother’s Necklace?" he asked, his voice carrying an edge of disbelief.

Valentina nodded stiffly, her nails digging into her palms.

"It was supposed to be mine. It has been passed down through generations on my mother’s side. But the moment she died, my stepmother claimed it and they told me they had to sell it for my treatment."

She took a deep breath, trying to keep her emotions in check, but the bitterness in her voice only deepened.

"It was worth a million dollars at the time. They sold it without hesitation. My father supported it."

At that moment Raymond felt a cold rage bubbling inside him, but he kept his expression unreadable. Instead, he reached forward, gently cupping Valentina’s hand.

"And now?" he asked, his tone deadly calm.

"Do you know who has it?"

Valentina sat in silence, her fingers tightening into fists on her lap.

"I didn’t have the means to get it back then," she murmured, her voice laced with frustration "I tried to forget about it, convinced myself that it didn’t matter. But I was lying to myself. It does matter. It always has."

Raymond’s gaze never left her face, his expression unreadable, but his grip on her hand tightened slightly.

Then Raymond said.

"The same necklace," he said, watching her closely. "It’s going to be auctioned again tomorrow."

Her eyes snapped to his. The necklace. Her mother’s necklace.

"Don’t you want to get it back?" he asked, his tone gentle but firm.

Of course, she did.

Her throat tightened.

"I would love to," she admitted.

"It meant everything to my mother. She cherished it so much. It was supposed to be mine one day."

Immediately She swallowed, her emotions creeping up.

"It’s the only thing left of hers that was meant for me."

Raymond gave a small nod, then without hesitation, he said, "Then it’s settled. We’ll go to the auction tomorrow and get it back."

Valentina’s heart swelled with gratitude, but she hesitated.

"But... It’s going to be expensive," she murmured, her fingers curling into her palm.

"It was sold for a million back then... Now, it might be two or three times the price."

Was it really worth spending that kind of money?

She exhaled shakily.

"I don’t know if—"

"You don’t need to think about that," Raymond cut in, his voice steady.

She looked up at him.

"As long as you want it," he said, his dark eyes locking onto hers, "and you know its importance, then that’s all that matters."

He reached over and took her hand, giving it a firm squeeze. "You don’t have to worry, Valentina. I’ll make sure you get it."
