Chapter 48: Chapter 48

At that moment Valentina exhaled softly, a faint smile playing on her lips.

"Raymond, you don’t have to do all this for me. One day, I’ll pay you back. When I finally get back on my feet, when I start working again, I’ll repay everything."

Hearing what Valentina just said.

Raymond arched a brow, amusement flickering in his gaze. "And what exactly do you think I’m here for?"

She hesitated, but before she could respond, he took her hands, his grip firm yet gentle.

"I’m your husband, Valentina. My job is to make sure you have everything you need. And in return, you just have to take care of me too. That’s all I ask."

Immediately Valentina felt warmth spread through her chest. His words were simple, but they held a kind of reassurance she hadn’t realized she needed.

"I will," she whispered.

"I’ll take care of you with everything I have."

Then Raymond smiled, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear before leaning in to press a soft kiss to her forehead.

"Then that’s all that matters."

He pulled back slightly, his gaze searching hers.

"I’ll let you rest tonight. I know today must have been exhausting for you."

Valentina nodded, but deep down, unease gnawed at her.

She wanted to tell him everything—the humiliating arrest, the strange fear in the boss’s voice, the way people kept reacting to her as if she held some kind of power.

But she knew Raymond.

If she told him now, he wouldn’t take it lightly. He wouldn’t let it go.

And tonight, she was too tired to deal with that.

Then Valentina sat on the edge of the bed, gripping the sheets tightly. She could still feel Raymond’s warmth lingering where he had kissed her forehead.

His words echoed in her mind—his promise to take care of her, his quiet devotion.

She knew. She knew he loved her deeply.

And if she told him what happened today—how Victoria and Edward humiliated her, how they tried to have her locked up like a criminal—he wouldn’t take it lightly.

He might even do something reckless.

And she couldn’t bear to see him lose himself over her, over something so little.

So, she swallowed it all. The frustration, the humiliation, the anger.

At that moment her phone rang.

Immediately she glanced at the screen.

It was her father.

At that moment her stomach twisted.

Then She ignored the call.

A few seconds later, it rang again.

Then she exhaled sharply and answered.

"So, you really thought you could keep secrets from us?"

Her father’s voice was as cold as she remembered.

Not a single question about how she was doing.

Not a single word of concern.

"You’ve gotten your body back, Valentina."

At that moment Valentina didn’t say anything, she was more anger than surprised.

"You haven’t even bothered to call the family," her father’s voice carried decades of disdain she had showed towards her.

"What have we done to deserve such hatred from you, Valentina?" The question hung in the air like poison, making her grip the phone tighter. Raymond’s hand found the small of her back, steadying her.

Her father’s dramatic pause was calculated, practiced.

"But that’s not why I’m calling." His tone shifted, carrying an edge that made the hair on her neck stand up. "Your mother and I expect you tomorrow. Both of you."

The word ’both’ carried a weight that made Valentina’s breath catch. She glanced at Raymond, who was watching her face with increasing concern.

"Bring your husband," her father commanded, leaving no room for discussion.

However before Valentina could say anything the line went dead.

Raymond watched Valentina carefully, noticing the tension in her shoulders, the way her fingers fidgeted slightly against the bedsheet.

"Was that your father who called?" he asked, his voice low but steady.

However Valentina hesitated for a second before nodding.

"Yeah. That was him."

"What did he want?"

She let out a bitter chuckle, shaking her head slightly.

"He’s demanding to see us tomorrow."

At that moment Raymond raised a brow.

"Are we going?"

"No." Valentina’s voice was firm.

"I already know what this is about."

Raymond didn’t interrupt, letting her continue.

" After my mother dead he neglected me for years, he had never treated me like his daughter, I did everything just for him to acknowledge me, but what did I get in return" she said, her tone cold.

"They all turned their backs on me when I needed them the most. Now, suddenly, because I have my face back, they want me back?"

At that moment her lips pressed into a thin line, anger simmering in her eyes.

"I don’t want to hear whatever nonsense they have to say." novelbuddy.cσ๓

Raymond reached out, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear again. "I get it," he said softly.

"But even if we know what they want, since they’ve summoned us, we should at least go and see what they have to say."

Valentina looked at him, uncertain.

"And you don’t have to worry," he added, his voice filled with quiet confidence.

"As long as your mind is made up, and mine is too, nothing they say will change anything."

He held her gaze, his grip on her hand tightening slightly.

"No one is taking you away from me, Valentina. No one."

Valentina stared at Raymond, his words settling deep in her heart. The quiet confidence in his voice, the way he held her gaze without hesitation—it calmed the storm inside her.

Then She took a deep breath, her fingers tightening slightly around the sheets.

"You’re right," she murmured, more to herself than to him. "There’s nothing to be afraid of."

She thought about it carefully. Why should she hide? She was at the point of building a new life. She had a husband who loved her, someone who stood by her without wavering. And if her presence would force them to face the weight of their own cruelty, to make them regret abandoning her, then she was willing to go.

At that moment Valentina tilted her chin slightly, determination settling in her eyes. "Fine. We’ll go tomorrow morning."

However Raymond watched her carefully, then nodded, a small smile touching his lips.

"Good. Now, get some rest."

He leaned in, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead again, his warmth lingering for a moment.

"No matter what happens, I’m right beside you."

Valentina closed her eyes for a second, letting his words sink in. She exhaled softly and whispered, "Goodnight, Raymond."

Raymond pulled the covers over her gently, his hand brushing against hers before he stood up and turned off the lights.

"Goodnight, my love."
