My Kingdom Building Done Right!-Chapter 27: A Place They Could Call Their Home
Leone’s earlier happiness evaporated after he read the contents of his third mission.
All the members of the Alborin Tribe gathered inside the cave for a very important meeting.
Daedalus projected Leone’s third mission for everyone to see, which they needed to complete within five days.
"Are you saying the Black Wolf Tribe might attack us in five days?" Ulric asked.
His words made the tribe anxious. They all understood the severity of this matter.
"It’s not confirmed," Daedalus replied. "But at the very least, we won’t expect any attacks for the next five days."
Ulric nodded gravely. "So our priority is to train three more warriors and gather enough food to last a month. Does that mean we’re facing a prolonged war?"
"Not necessarily," Daedalus answered. "I’m guessing this is the worst-case scenario. We might be unable to leave the mountain to hunt or forage if the Black Wolf Tribe attacks with their allies.
"So we need enough supplies to last until the threat passes. We have plenty of water, so food is our only problem. We should also gather enough firewood in case of a prolonged siege."
Ulric scanned the mission details and paused at the sight of an unfamiliar term. He asked what a warrior with a Prestige Class meant.
Daedalus glanced at his Master, silently asking for permission. Leone nodded, allowing the grimoire to reveal the reward from completing the second mission.
The members of the Alborin Tribe, especially the warriors, stared at the benefits that Leone’s new vassals would gain.
They had been there when Maximus, Arion, and Blitz underwent evolution after being declared Leone’s vassals.
"I’ll try to find a new vassal within the time limit," Leone stated. "But I don’t know if I can find a warrior that fits the requirements. For now, we should prioritize stocking up food to last us a month.
"As for the three warriors, I’ve decided to install three mounted repeating crossbows here at the main camp. That way, even if enemies breach our outer defenses and head here to take hostages, they’ll have to survive an onslaught of bolts before they could touch our people."
Leone glanced at the other women tending to their children. All of them returned his gaze with determination, as if understanding what he implied.
"I volunteer to train in using the Repeating Crossbow," one of the women declared.
"I will train too."
"So will I."
Many other ladies asked to be trained as well.
"Three of you will train in operating the repeating crossbows," Ulric declared. "The rest will train with bows and arrows. You will serve as our last line of defense, so take this seriously."
" Yes, Chieftain! "
A few minutes later, the meeting ended.
Ulric asked Leone to spare him time for a private discussion once he was back from hunting with his warriors.
After the delegation of roles, the warriors had gone ahead to their assigned tasks, brimming with motivation.
The hunters, the loggers, the miners, and the women started to train using bows and arrows.
Yuni stayed behind to teach them how to hold and use bows properly. She only had five days to make them decent archers, which was a difficult challenge.
Still, the path leading to the underground river was narrow. As long as they could shoot arrows into that tunnel, the chances of hitting an enemy were high.
Several hours passed.
Elsewhere, Leone and his familiars were hard at work. He was busy discussing trap placement inside the cave with Daedalus.
The best part about these traps was that their allies could see them, while enemies remained completely clueless.
"If any of you see a green tile on the ground, that means it’s a trap," Daedalus told the women assigned to protect the non-combatants inside the cave. "Never step on it. You can lure enemies toward them, but unless absolutely needed, stay clear and don’t go near. Understood?"
""Yes!""
Outside, Leone was practicing aerial maneuvers with Airon. He’d already bought a saddle and reins, which would allow him to comfortably mount his familiar when needed.
Although Leone planned to fight alongside the warriors during the siege, emergencies that required him to ride Airon might happen.
He was a very proficient horse rider. While a pegasus was also a horse, just with wings, he had no idea how to balance on a flying horse, so he still needed practice.
Leone was also considering acquiring a combat skill, like Sword Mastery or Bow Mastery. But those cost five hundred BP each.
BP he currently didn’t have.
As he flew over the forest, Ulric and the hunters below spotted him fly past.
None of them had talked about it, but they unanimously felt grateful toward the young man. Leone didn’t just help them find a new home but also helped them fortify it.
He’d also been there when they fought against the Gryphon. Although he didn’t help with the combat, his presence alone was enough support.
"Chief, I know you have reservations about becoming Leone’s vassal, especially since he’s still young," Castor said carefully, " But... maybe the Goddess really did send him to us. Maybe he’s meant to help the Alborin Tribe reach greater heights."
Pollux chuckled softly at his friend’s words. He still remembered the day Leone had literally fallen onto their altar after being exiled from his kingdom.
And yet the boy showed no anxiety about his situation. He adapted like a fish to water, embracing freedom and helping others along the way.
"I remember something the previous chieftain once told me," Castor added. "He said that as long as someone has the ability to guide people forward—whether through wisdom, courage, or strength—they deserve a chance to prove themselves no matter their age."
"I remember that too," one of the veteran warriors commented. "But Leone is a special case. Sometimes he’s inspiring. Other times... I feel embarrassed just listening to him."
This statement made the hunters laugh. It was indeed so. Leone was nobody’s idea of an ideal barbarian chieftain.
He wasn’t strong nor was he a fighter. But occasionally, he’d speak words that touched the hearts of others, making them wonder if he was really a blessing sent to them by the Goddess or an accident that just happened to fall into their heads.
"I understand what you’re all trying to say," Ulric commented. "Leone may be young, naive, arrogant, and thinks that he’s the most good looking brat in the world. But I have to admit his powers give him the potential to become the Hero King Daedalus mentioned."
The Chieftain of the Alborin Tribe paused a bit as he gazed in the direction where Leone and Arion disappeared to.
"Still... this is not a decision that I can make lightly," Ulric said.
Castor nodded in understanding. "That’s why you’re our Chieftain. You always think things through. But regardless of your decision, the Alborin Tribe will follow your will."
Ulric smiled faintly. Deep inside his heart, he felt that a new era was coming.
Maybe... just maybe...
The boy who fell from the sky might truly be the turning point the Alborin Tribe had been waiting for. The one the Goddess had chosen from countless souls across the world.
Perhaps she had even woven the threads of destiny herself so that Leone would appear before them, granting them the chance to finally build a place they could call home.
