Chapter 107: First Target

The legalities were smooth as the working man had no interest with anything other than finishing his shift as fast as possible.

Though, when Claire pulled out the extra list of tasks they wanted to apply for, his eyelids twitched in frustration.

’Fuck... Shouldn’t have let them cut the lane...’ he cried inwardly, putting on a fake smile as he began to fiddle on his computer, ’It was supposed to be my break time soon...’

Regardless, he did the job neatly before running off for his break before any other team could harass him for more work.

"Okay, we got the list along with most monster type’s estimated locations." After moving away from the queue and ignoring the amount of attention Aaron was pulling, Claire unfolded a list.

On her phone, she pulled up the map of Gammora and began to put markers on their points of interest while speaking:

"We already went over our hunting strats, so let’s just get on with the tasks that are hardest and most swamped."

Eva hummed, "Yes, the official task is already ours and we can leave it for later. Let’s finish the public ones as quickly as we can."

The rest of the team seemed to be in agreement as well, as they made their way towards the cars.

Even when they knew they could fit into one car if they wished to, taking two cars was much better since it entailed much larger storage space for them.

The amount of trips they would need to make between their hunting spots and the UHRA building will be minimized greatly.

Keeping up with the previous seating arrangement, the group divided into two cars and took off to the first monster they would be hunting today.

A level 55 monster, usually found in higher levels of the labyrinth but now roaming freely and wreaking havoc on the defenseless buildings.

Most of its kind were already hunted and disposed of, leaving it to be the last target that could be grabbed for a large amount of cash.

And funnily enough, this task wasn’t even put up by the government or by any non-combatant agency that may need the monster’s specialized loot!

It was actually enlisted by a very rich man who used to live in the Gammora city, and during the labyrinth outbreak, his daughter was chilling in a cafe that was not that far away from the labyrinth.

Being close to a labyrinth outbreak as a civilian could only spell death, as a rogue level 60 monster advanced in the cafe’s direction and easily wiped out the humans in a blink of an eye.

No amount of money could help the man resurrect his daughter but he could indeed use the money to eradicate the entire race of those monsters.

Dumping a large amount of valuable assets in rage, he put up countless task requests for the raiders to target that monster species.

And now, Claire had managed to nag that final request, aiming to hunt a level 55 variant.

A level 55 monster was still higher than her current strength, but with the power of her team combined and the lacking intelligence of monsters, she firmly believed that they could take it down.

In addition, she had the support of Aaron this time, who despite having a single usable skill in his repertoire could change the flow of the battle.

They would no longer need to try and dodge as much, only focusing on dealing as many wounds as possible until the monster suffered from a sensory overload.

This was the hunting strat that she had devised, using Aaron’s skill to hunt the bigger enemies and if it went into cooldown, they would focus on the weaker enemies until it became available again.

Both the cars kept driving through the broken remains of once beautiful city. Most of the civilians were already evacuated out of the city, leaving it infested only with raiders, monsters and the government officials.

Just 10 minutes away, Claire’s foot slammed on the brakes when she noticed a huge monster in a distance.

Humanoid and standing at a humongous height of 5 meters, he held an uprooted tree in his arms like a mace, smashing it on the surrounding buildings with splinters of wood flying everywhere.

A few of those splinters flew at him along with all the rubble, but none of those mere projectiles were enough to damage his thick brown hide, dotted with patches of fur.

His bull-like head accurately denoted his intelligence levels, as the monster kept ramming the tree at the building even when the tree had caught on fire and was breaking apart.

It was a monster of the Minotaur species, one of the strongest tier 2 monsters but limited by their low intelligence.

But it was only obvious, since the universe had a strange sense of balance, where if it gave you something it would take something in return...

For the unfortunate monstrous bulls, it was their intelligence.

"Park the car far away, we need his horns as the proof of conquest." Claire said calmly into the car’s audio system, which was already connected to the SUV’s radio.

"We know." Jaq replied with a low scoff, swerving her car into a smaller alley before parking it there.

Claire moved into the same alley, parking it right behind Jaq’s SUV as they got out of the car.

Lia opened the SUV’s trunk, taking out a couple sets of light and medium armors which were equipped by the front liners, namely Claire, Katie and Jaq.

Lia and Eva both were mages/healer who didn’t need such defensive equipment, while Aaron was also a ranged utility support, which usually meant that they would die anyways if a monster managed to attack them.

Why bother wearing cumbersome armor when you cannot even survive a single attack?

Instead it was much better to fight without any armor, which would at least give them a faster reaction time if nothing else.

"Let’s move as close as possible till the bullhead notices us. When he does, Aaron cast your skill and retreat. Same for Eva." Claire ordered calmly as she fixed her armor on herself, twisting her metallic gauntlets as she smirked:

"Since my dear boyfriend is with us for the first time, I want to leave a good impression. Got it, girls?"
