Chapter 129: Beating Heart

’How long... how long do I need to watch this bullshit...’ Aaron thought as his eyes glared daggers into the tall monster, watching him cut the already dead corpses just for the fun of it.

However, before he could throw more curses in the monster’s direction, suddenly light flashed onto them.

It formed a huge circle, covering both their groups and the gruesome result of that monster’s cruelty.

’Help arrived?’ his eyes widened, turning up to look at a whirring helicopter hanging overhead, a spotlight pointed at them.

He had noticed when Claire had sent a distress signal and understood what she did, so just like her, he was also waiting for help while stroking her back and comforting her.

Eva was standing a little further away from him, leaving him unable to interact much with the kind-hearted, playful healer.

But he didn’t regret it.

He knew how much guilt Claire was feeling since it was hers and Jaq’s idea to enter the stadium due to their own selfish reasons—to gain more benefits by killing tombats even when there were chances of a dangerous monster prowling within.

Of course, what’s done is done and couldn’t be changed, but he at least wanted to be next to her and console her so that she wouldn’t blame herself as much.

After all, everyone makes mistakes.

Suddenly, his thought process was interrupted when he saw the mimic shriek in a high pitch in front of his eyes.

"YOU... LEAVE!!! MY FOOD!" he screamed, looking towards the sky.

And for the first time since the start, Aaron saw that obnoxious grin tilt lower, flattening first and then turning upside down into a frown.

Naturally, his attention was pulled and his eyes travelled upwards, seeing a small blackish object falling out of the sky and moving in their direction.

"Thank god..."

A woman from the Sanguini guild murmured under her breath, making everyone gasp inwardly, scrambling backwards and away from her.

The mimic tore his eyes off the incoming black object, his frown twisting back into a grin as he stared at the woman while clapping his hands in glee.

He resembled a little boy opening his Christmas present, only in this case the boy was 7 feet tall, had bloody socketless eyes, and was stained with blood.

Realizing her mistake, the woman screamed loudly, "NO! NO NO NO NOO! PLEASE, SAVE ME!!!!" She shouted into the skies, catching the attention of the falling redhead, making the woman’s brows furrow.

With an annoyed sigh, the woman leaned lower, nosediving towards the ground which increased her speed by a lot.

And yet... the woman was far, the mimic was closer...

"Hehehehehe," the mimic cackled while moving closer to the Sanguini woman, his head tilted to an unusual angle that made it seem like he was keeping one eye on the falling woman while another on the prey in front of him.

"Let her go, for fuck’s sake. It will be a stain on my resume if I cannot save a woman in front of my eyes."

Suddenly the falling woman somersaulted in the air, her falling body blinking with a wild movement of mana and appearing a couple steps behind the mimic.

Aaron could feel the mana moving erratically around her body, as if excited to be in contact with the woman as her red hair fell down her back with grace.

She was short, nearly 5’5 feet tall, standing in front of the mimic who was 7 feet tall. And yet, she didn’t seem to be worried at all.

Hell, she didn’t even care about the fact that she was speaking in front of a mimic. Confidence was oozing out of every pore in her body, setting the hearts of Aaron and the rest at ease.

The mimic removed his attention from the frozen and shaking Sanguini woman, turning around to stare at the new entry with his socketless eyes.

Mana surged out of him, trying to suppress the woman but being unable to do so.

"Strong..." he murmured, his grin getting wider as he suddenly backflipped over the Sanguini woman’s head, appearing behind her and stabbing his hand directly through her chest.

It passed through her flesh like a hot knife through butter, splashing blood and shooting out of her front with a choked gasp escaping her lips.

Blood poured out of her wound and her mouth, but no one seemed to be focused on that.

Their eyes were widened and peeled at a beating heart, pulsing slowly in the monster’s hand, the pulse getting weaker and weaker with every passing moment.

"Sick bastard." The woman didn’t take the monster’s action calmly, gritting her teeth and closing her flaming orange eyes, muttering something under her breath.

Flames and fire seemed to heed her call, exploding out of her and razing the surrounding grass into blackened ash and soot, gathering into her extended hands.

"C...Catch~" The mimic giggled, pulling out his hand from her chest, causing the woman to slump to the floor lifelessly while he stepped over the corpse with little to no regard for her, tossing the faintly pulsing heart in the flaming woman’s direction.

"Begone." The redhead spat with hate, releasing the concentrated flames that caused the flying heart to get charred and blackened just from the heat, the projectile flying towards the mimic at insane speed.

However the mimic was no beginner, his subconscious no longer restricted him from hurting that woman since she had already spoken many lines in his presence.

He only refused to hunt those that didn’t talk to him and didn’t try to harm him.

Break any of those two rules and he will make it his life’s motto to hunt you down.

And that woman in front of him... she not only broke them, but stomped all over those two rules, making the mimic shriek in fury and dodge the incoming flaming projectile, lunging at the woman!

However, just as he dodged and began to move in that woman’s direction, his instincts began to tingle and warn him that something that could threaten him was coming.

He could feel extreme heat coming towards his back...

And at that exact moment, a cold, masculine voice fell into his ears...

"Reverse Senses."
