My Life In A Fantasy, Women-Dominated World-Chapter 42: Not Public Knowledge
"I did it for her own good."
My lips twitched at the shameless voice as I stared at Eva’s charming face, who was on the facetime with me.
Moments after Eva left, Claire had dozed off due to some ’sleep inducement’.
And as I called her to ask about it, this was her shameless response.
Seeing my not so impressed reaction, she continued.
"What? I really did it for her own good, I don’t know if you two would’ve done something that could have ruined her health further." Eva proclaimed righteously, though her words would’ve sounded more believable if she wasn’t holding back her laughs.
"Not funny. I wanted to talk to her." I grumbled back, feeling confused if I should let it go as a joke or scold her for it.
I mean, it was a funny joke after all. And pretty harmless in the grand scheme of things. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
It just felt a little invasive, but the way Clay and Eva interacted, they seemed really close.
"Aww," Eva cooed, her phone was affixed on the front of her car as she drove slowly.
"Don’t be mad, dear toy, ask me what you want to know." she grinned widely.
’Toy’?
Does this bitch even know of our sex life?!
But knowing Claire she would never do that. Eva must have heard some things or something.
"What happened with the labyrinth? Is it safe to enter again? What was the cause of it?"
Eva raised her eyebrows in surprise, as if she wasn’t expecting me to drop the teases and actually ask about important stuff.
But respecting my questions, she shifted in her car seat and straightened her back before looking at me through the camera.
"What I am telling you is not public knowledge, so I will appreciate it if you don’t share it with anyone either." she said in a serious tone.
"Sure." I nodded back.
"Good, so as for the labyrinth, it’s still under the experiments and research so no, it cannot be entered for a good while." Eva sighed, her eyes glinting with frustration as she continued:
"And the cause? We are not sure, but it’s not something that can be done by humans."
I gulped.
I was under the impression that Snombi is a small city, somewhere I cannot encounter any of the fantasy races yet.
And despite being disheartened by the news, I was secured in knowing that it was just us humans around me.
But... Now Eva is telling me that there might be other races going around?
And not just that, but the other races are... deadly? Harmful? Hostile?
Seeing my reaction, Eva smiled calmly, "Calm down."
Her words indeed worked like a charm as I took a deep breath and non-verbally gestured for her to continue.
"There is no proof that it is done by other races, but we believe so. The labyrinth’s core was tempered with, and we don’t have the power, nor the technology to achieve that."
She shook her head, sighing as she said:
"So the moral of the story is that it was either done by other races, or even worse, something worse is bubbling inside." Eva’s voice dipped down an octave, "Our labyrinth isn’t the only one tampered."
Her words surprised me.
This was my first fucking day and so much is going on already?
What will happen if more time passes?
"Who else?"
I didn’t have many clues about what other labyrinths were near us, or what this entailed.
But I had to keep up the appearance at least, not to mention that it was some key details that may help me.
After all, I foolishly made it my goal to grow in this world and stop living my lowkey pathetic life.
"Some nearby labyrinths were hit, and even a second grade labyrinth was targeted. You probably haven’t seen the news yet, so I suggest you turn on the TV and see it for yourself later.
But, this shit is kinda deep. I am just telling you the full picture so you don’t get caught up in it or worry needlessly." Eva explained calmly.
However, one word caught my attention.
"Worry? What do you mean?"
"Well..." Eva trailed off, giving me an impression that she probably said more than she intended to.
Then, she sighed. "Claire was supposed to be the one telling you this."
I scoffed in response, "Then I guess it’s your fault that she can’t now."
"You can wait for her to wake up."
"Or you can just tell me right now." I shook my head, "And if it bothers you, I can act like I don’t know when she tells me later."
"Haah... forget it, no need to act. I will just tell," she waved her hand dismissively before focusing back on driving.
"Our team was hired by the government to assist other cities. You will understand what I mean when you see the news."
I doubt she would be explaining more, so I nodded to her words and after a few more exchanged pleasantries, bid her a farewell.
Once the call ended, my head fell back on the comfy couch of the hospital room.
Today has been quite a hectic day, and to be honest, this couch was really, really comfortable.
The adrenaline or whatever that was keeping me up, finally drained out as I tilted my head to gaze at Claire’s sleeping face.
She looked so calm and relaxed, that seeing her made me relax subconsciously.
"Goodnight, Clay."
I whispered, before sleep finally grabbed a firm hold of me and pulled me into the hazy dreams that I may or may not remember in the morning...

Time passed by in a blink of an eye as the warm sunlight battered against my shut eyelids.
It felt like a minor inconvenience at first, but as the brightness increased, the discomfort surged.
My ears twitched, picking up the faint murmurs and incoherent voices that were slowly getting clearer.
I raised a hand to shield my eyes against the beating sun, while opening my eyes slowly.
"Good morning sleeping beauty," A faint chuckle was the first thing I heard.
