Chapter 683: Rescue

"Damn it! This is really dangerous!" Leon cursed under his breath.

He tried to dispel the surrounding fog using holy power, but it was no use. The thick mist had blanketed the entire coastline.

Each time he cleared a portion of it, the fog reformed almost instantly, shrouding his vision again and again.

"At this rate, Elina might really disappear—and that would be a problem," Leon muttered, clenching his fists.

Without wasting another second, he closed his eyes and called out, "Miranda, are you there? Can you help me?"

A full minute passed before Miranda’s voice finally echoed in his mind.

"I’m here, Master. You don’t need to worry. You can actually see through this fog using the Eyes of Chaos."

"The Eyes of Chaos?" Leon blinked in surprise.

"That’s right," Miranda said gently. "The Eyes of Chaos are a powerful gift. They allow you to see the past and the future... and pierce through anything in this world. Use them to find Elina."

"Got it," Leon said, taking a steady breath and nodding to himself. "I’ll give it a try."

"However, be careful, Master," Miranda warned in a serious tone. "The Eyes of Chaos aren’t something you can use recklessly—especially in your current state, where you haven’t fully mastered them. So please, don’t overdo it."

Leon took a deep breath and gave a firm nod in response.

"Don’t worry. I’ll keep your words in mind."

"Good," Miranda replied, sounding relieved.

With that, Leon severed the connection and opened his eyes wide.

"Eyes of Chaos!" he called out.

In an instant, his right eye—once golden—turned pitch black.

The pupil shifted slowly, forming a glowing white crescent.

At the same time, his vision changed completely. The thick fog that had blanketed everything vanished from sight. It was as if it had never been there—everything now lay before him, crystal clear.

"Elina!" Leon called out as he hurried toward the forest, which turned out to be only about twenty meters ahead. "Where are you, Elina?!"

He kept shouting, but there was no response. His heart pounded faster with every step.

"Damn... Did she go into the forest? If she did, this just got a lot worse," Leon muttered, his jaw tightening.

The forest posed no threat to him—but for Elina, it could be dangerous.

After all, who could say for certain there weren’t monsters or strange creatures lurking inside?

Even though Elina could use powerful magic, there was no guarantee she’d be safe.

As Leon stepped into the forest, his pace slowed and then suddenly stopped.

His eyes dropped to the ground. A massive footprint lay before him—roughly five meters long and two meters wide.

If not for his sharp eye, he might’ve mistaken it for a shallow crater caused by falling rocks from the nearby cliffs.

"Whose footprint is this? Is there a giant creature living in this forest?" He murmured, crouching down and brushing his hand across the black sand that had formed the print.

Judging by the texture and warmth, it wasn’t fresh—but it wasn’t old either. Perhaps it had been made a day or two before he and Elina arrived.

Just as he was lost in thought, the ground beneath Leon’s feet trembled slightly—like the distant rumble of an earthquake.

His eyes widened, and he quickly stood up in alarm. "Is that... the monster?"

But just as he prepared to investigate, the shaking ceased, and he couldn’t tell which direction it had come from.

Leon took a deep breath and muttered, "If I can’t find it... then let me see what happened before."

He focused, widening his right eye. A faint purplish-black light began to glow from it.

In an instant, a vision unfolded before him—a shadowy replay of the past. Glimmering traces of light formed the image of a girl and a massive creature chasing her through the forest.

The girl was small and clearly terrified as she ran deeper into the woods. Behind her, a huge, pot-bellied monster lumbered after her.

Leon’s throat tightened. His heart pounded violently, as if it might burst from his chest.

"Elina...?" He gasped, his breathing ragged. But he quickly forced himself to stay calm.

He hadn’t realized Elina was being chased by the same monster that left those enormous footprints.

Judging by its appearance, the creature resembled an Orc... or perhaps a Troll—beasts he’d only ever heard of in Holy Orthodoxy legends.

"This is bad! I have to save her!"

With a burst of holy power, Leon shot forward, diving into the forest without hesitation—racing along the trail left behind by Elina and the beast.

*Bang! Bang!*

Deep within the forest, a towering monster—thirty meters tall—was relentlessly smashing a large cave before it.

The cave, formed from fifteen meters of solid rock, looked small and fragile compared to the sheer size of the beast.

"Come out and be my food! Come out!" The monster roared, pounding on the cave entrance with a massive log gripped in its right hand.

The sound was terrifying—enough to make anyone tremble, including Elina, who was hiding behind the cave wall.

"Wuuu! I’m scared! Young Master, help me!" She cried, curled up in a corner.

Tears streamed down her cheeks as her wide, red eyes remained fixed on the trembling cave wall, which looked ready to collapse at any moment.

"How did I get this unlucky? Wuuu..." She sobbed, her voice shaking.

Earlier, she had gotten separated from Leon after losing her way in the dense fog. And now, she found herself being hunted by a terrifying monster.

It was so enormous that she felt like nothing more than an insect in its eyes.

Fortunately, the fog in the deeper part of the forest wasn’t as thick as at the edges. Thanks to that, Elina had managed to find a cave to hide in.

But somehow, the monster had a sharp sense of smell—and it had tracked her down without fail.

*Bang!*

*Bang!*

The heavy blows continued to echo through the forest, shaking the cave walls violently.

Each impact only deepened Elina’s fear, pushing her closer to full-blown panic.

Then, all at once, the crashing stopped.

Even so, Elina was too terrified to peek out from behind the rocks. She stayed completely still, holding her breath and not daring to move.

Five long minutes dragged by in heavy silence. Only after convincing herself it wasn’t a trap did she finally let out a shaky breath of relief.

But her relief didn’t last. Without warning, the cave entrance shattered—blown apart in a burst of debris.

Elina’s eyes widened. Her heart skipped a beat.

"N-No! Don’t eat me!" She screamed, throwing her hands over her face.

"Elina, don’t be afraid. It’s me—Leon," came a calm, familiar voice from the entrance.

Elina froze in surprise, then slowly lowered her hands from her face.

And sure enough, the figure standing at the shattered cave entrance wasn’t the monster—it was Leon.

Tears welled up in her eyes. Without hesitation, she jumped to her feet and ran straight toward him.

"Young Master!"
