Chapter 1985: Chapter 1985: Leaving Them Behind

No, this is not something unusual. Government officials, when reassigned, typically bring their families along.

It’s just unexpected that Governor Yun was promoted so quickly and is in such a hurry to take up the new position. Generally speaking, when granted a new position, there’s a buffer period of two to three months before one officially assumes the role. This time it’s too rushed, being appointed and immediately undertaking the post, it feels like something is about to happen.

However, regardless of Governor Yun’s intentions, she absolutely does not want to leave the capital.

She had just managed to get into a high school that gives her a chance to apply to the Imperial Institute of Technology. If she leaves now and transfers to another school, she will lose this opportunity.

"I don’t want to go," Jun Yiyi blurted out.

Governor Yun was stunned by her straightforward and bold response, sizing her up in surprise. He had never paid much attention to this adopted daughter because she was unremarkable, appearing quite frail and humble, without much presence.

He was indeed surprised when she got into one of the three renowned high schools, never thinking that a little girl from Yalan Country could get into that high school. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

However, upon reflection, he thought that the school interview panel likely just gave her special consideration because of him, the governor.

"Why don’t you want to go?" he asked, somewhat displeased. Her fearless tone towards him made him feel a bit uncomfortable.

Could a girl from Yalan Country dare to defy him?

"I, I... just managed to get into high school and don’t want to give up like this because I am not noticeable by nature, and I want to bring some glory to the Yun Family that adopted me. I’ve decided to get into the Imperial Institute of Technology."

Jun Yiyi appeared nervous and at a loss, dispelling Governor Yun’s suspicions. After all, she didn’t want to have a conflict with this family, which would not benefit her current situation, so appearing weak was a good strategy.

Seeing her timid demeanor, Governor Yun’s expression improved. Perhaps he had misread the situation earlier; this girl had no spirit and wouldn’t dare to act disobediently.

But wanting to bring glory to the Yun Family and claiming she’d get into the Imperial Institute of Technology—what a ridiculous notion. He thought with disdain; if she could get in, then the Imperial Institute of Technology would be overrun with students. What a fool, and besides, he had never seen her as part of the Yun Family.

"So, you want to bring glory to the Yun Family. You are indeed an ambitious child. In that case, you may stay," Governor Yun said, smiling benevolently.

Jun Yiyi secretly breathed a sigh of relief, though she didn’t expect Governor Yun to agree so easily. It seemed he didn’t really care about her and naturally didn’t want to bother her, which was for the best. It meant she would have more freedom and ease in the future.

"So, Madam, what do you plan to do?" he asked Madam Aisha again.

Madam Aisha looked hesitant. Jun Yiyi wanted to persuade her to leave with him, but Madam Aisha held her hand and shook her head.

"Yiyi and I will stay."

Governor Yun nodded, a barely noticeable sinister smile on his lips.

Actually, he didn’t want to take the two of them away. These two women no longer held any value for him, but to abandon them outright would make him seem heartless, so he just said it casually.

He didn’t expect them to be so perceptive and unwilling to leave. That was ideal.

In the future, this city will become the center of chaos, so naturally, he wants to get out of it early.

Then he left with Mrs. Yun and his beloved daughter to entertain other invited guests.
