My Scheming Little Devil-Chapter 2049: Watertight
Her hands were so numb that she had almost lost all sensation.
The workers, cheering as if surviving a disaster, hurried over to carefully remove the canvas from Yiyi’s body.
Lie Fengzi raised a brow. She hadn’t anticipated this turn of events and couldn’t help but cast a covert glance at Jun Yiyi. Such a meddling woman. However, that hit was not light; though she hadn’t achieved her goal, it wasn’t entirely without gain—at least this woman had suffered.
Jun Yiyi truly felt the pain where the canvas had struck her, slowly recovering from it. While it wasn’t terribly uncomfortable, as the numbness in her hands faded, she realized the sharp pain in the middle of her right arm. A piercing ache emanated from the bone, causing her lips to pale.
The impact of the painting was too strong. She had managed to catch it, but her supporting right hand had been severely sprained. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Sharp pains surged intermittently, but she endured the discomfort well, not uttering a sound.
"How can you be so incompetent? You nearly ruined a valuable painting. You’re utterly useless," Lie Fengzi barked harshly at the workers. The workers exchanged glances, too frightened to speak.
She then hurried downstairs, anxiously approaching Jun Yiyi and helping her up, her tone full of concern.
"I’m truly sorry for causing you harm. Are you alright? I’m so sorry—should we get a doctor to examine you?" Lie Fengzi’s demeanor was genuinely apologetic, her large, watery eyes brimming with remorse, leaving no room for criticism.
Despite the frustration in her heart due to this unexpected ordeal, Jun Yiyi couldn’t really blame her publicly. If she hadn’t suddenly appeared to chastise the workers, they wouldn’t have been scared into dropping the painting, and she wouldn’t have ended up like this. However, her attitude seemed sincere, filled with urgency and care.
"I’m fine, no need." Jun Yiyi endured the pain, pulling her hand back, unwilling to show weakness in front of this woman. Ultimately, the situation with Lie Fengzi and Ling Kong was still hard to let go—this woman had once even been a rival in love.
Jun Yiyi had encountered Lie Fengzi a few times before, but had no significant interactions, remaining largely unfamiliar with her.
However, she had heard many rumors about this duchess. It was said she was a rare combination of beauty and intelligence, moreover, an exceptional student, much more popular in high society than those heiresses who only flaunted family backgrounds and looks.
Seeing her now, it was undoubtedly true. She was both strikingly beautiful and adept in social situations, clearly a capable and smart individual.
Given her prominent family background and status as a duchess, there was hardly anyone in the country, in the public’s eye, more flawless and illustrious than her.
Hence, the public seemed to favor her rumored romance with Ling Kong—a duke’s daughter and the son of a councilman, one beautiful and intelligent, the other remarkable and outstanding—a match made in heaven, eagerly anticipating a grand wedding to immortalize their enchanting love.
Unfortunately, after a year of waiting, the wedding had yet to be finalized, sparking endless speculation, though the couple often appeared together at various events, more intimate than others, leading people to believe it was just a matter of time.
