"These doors are... completed. And they are the only portion of the city that have any sort of wear on them whatsoever. Little scratches covering the surface, splinters of wood hanging off of the frames... What the hell happened to them? Why are they all scuffed when everything else is neat and maintained?"

Jahi, Leone and I were on the way to another trial that requested three different elemental Cores that all had something 'unique' about them, which was extremely hard to decipher but definitely something I think we were able to do since we were all quite unique.

Draka, Lilith, and both of the Metal mages could have likely entered this trial as well but we came to the decision as a group that the best thing for us was to let Jahi get as powerful as possible so that her Light Mana could become an even bigger deterrent for the Fiends, while Leone might be able to start getting her other magics even higher level with this reward.

And then I forced myself in here for a few reasons, primarily being the reward which was an increase to the size of our Cores and the regeneration of our mana, something that seemed extremely useful going forwards since a larger capacity and the ability to maintain that capacity could be the difference between an easy victory and a hard fought, extremely close win.

The other reason was also extremely simple, and it was the fact that if it was just Jahi, Leone and I heading into this trial then there was a high possibility that any and all free time we had could be spent going at it like dogs in heat, which... I technically was.

The source of this c𝐨ntent is freeweɓnovēl.coɱ.

I was going to need these sorts of trials whenever possible, and since the task was to complete a series of puzzles then there was a good chance we could take a few days inside of the trial to do nothing besides handle my heat, and that would be more rewarding than that boost to our Cores.

On the way to the trial though we found even more of these doors that had been damaged and the trials that had been completed, which gave us pause as we traversed this ever silent, well maintained city trapped within a time warping bubble.

"Maybe after the trial is completed the door reverts back to being just a door? They are enchanted, technically, so that could be part of the answer. Also... Lilith was here once, and while there definitely aren't a large amount of strong, insane and stubborn people out in the world there are certainly enough to have reached this point."

"That and the fact that someone had to make these trials. Someone had to construct this city, and someone is inhabiting those trials. Too many different groups of people are inside of those trials for it to just be something created via magic. They have to be pockets of space and time."

The two of them were making sense, especially when I thought about what Lilith had taught me earlier about the Gates, how they were both random but also not random at the same time, how it seemed that they had a purpose; perhaps there were people who dwelled within this city, perpetually undertaking the trials and not aware - or not caring - about the time distortion around them.

Perhaps - more terrifyingly so - there was a chance that those unique monsters that they had encountered during the campaign - when I had been forcibly absent from this part of the continent - were around here as well.

They made use of Gates, after all, so who was to say that they weren't capable of opening one right into this city and one wherever they wanted, especially after enjoying the boons of this place to such a high degree..?

If they really were the ones utilizing these trials then we were in deep trouble, but if they weren't it continued to confuse us since it meant that someone else had either been here or was currently here...

And with the city being as mind warpingly large as it was there was little chance that we could run into them without us actively searching for one another, so the hope I had was that there was nobody else here besides us, though who knows, maybe someone else was here and we were just skirting around one another constantly.

"There's nothing we can do besides keep our eyes peeled for any additional signs of use and wear. Anything we find now is just speculative in nature... besides, we need to stop wasting time and get to that trial! The sooner we get in..."

Jahi's lazy smile made it easy to push the worn doors out of my mind as I nodded and resumed guiding us, my mind switching from the critical, safety oriented setting to the one that just couldn't wait for us to enter this trial so that my needs could be satiated and then some.

A deeper part of me was even getting excited because of what happened before we had come in to the city this time, how I had 'forgotten' to take in some of the powder without letting either Jahi or Leone know that whatever happened during this time... it was just going to happen.

I was so aroused at the idea that I was rushing us to the door as quickly as possible, much to Jahi's delight as she followed right behind Leone and I to 'watch our backs', much to my delight as even more my needs were met, just as her own were met when we 'regrouped' before entering, the Demoness 'reassuring' us with some firm pats.

Another trial that would be equal parts rewarding and challenging awaited us, but I was looking forwards to it so much more than I could ever explain, especially since it was a puzzle trial of some kind, something none of us had done just yet during our short time here.
