My Sniper System in a Zombie Apocalypse World-Chapter 134: The Flesh Giant
The bloated infected continued dragging its massive body across the floor. As it turned slightly, Jaxon’s eyes caught something that made his chest tighten.
Stitched into the swollen mass of flesh was the face of a young girl.
Her skin was pale and stretched unnaturally against the surrounding flesh. Blood streamed from her eyes, mouth, nose, and ears as if her body were being crushed from within.
Then her mouth trembled open. "Is... anyone there...?" the voice cried weakly. "Please... help me..."
The voice echoed through the quiet mall, and a cold shiver ran through Jaxon’s spine.
’What the hell...?’ His mind struggled to process what he was seeing. And a horrifying thought crossed his mind.
’Is she... still alive? Could she still be conscious... trapped inside that thing?’
The idea made his stomach twist violently, and he almost gagged, but he forced himself to stay still as the bloated infected slowly passed by their hiding place.
Then something moved above them. A dark shape suddenly dropped from the ceiling.
Two faintly glowing red eyes flashed in the darkness. But it didn’t attack Jaxon or the others. Instead, it lunged straight at the bloated infected.
It was a crawler, as it moved like a flash. Its claws tore deep into the swollen flesh before its jaws snapped down, biting hard into the creature’s body.
Jaxon stared in shock. ’What the...? They’re attacking each other?’
He had already been preparing to shoot, but the crawler struck before he could act.
The bloated infected let out a distorted, angry roar, and immediately fought back.
The crawler ripped through layers of flesh, but the monster’s body was too large. The damage looked small compared to its massive size.
Then several of the heads on the bloated infected suddenly twisted.
Four of them lunged at once. Rotten teeth sank into the crawler’s limbs, tearing through its arms and legs. Another head clamped down on its torso, ripping into its body with brutal force.
The crawler shrieked as the heads tore into its arms and legs. One head clamped onto its shoulder while another bit into its side.
The two monsters writhed in the middle of the mall, tearing into each other with a violent, chaotic energy.
Gurgling sounds and the ripping of flesh echoed off the walls, bouncing through the empty aisles. The crawler thrashed with desperate speed, but it was trapped.
The bloated infected’s extra arms held it tight, pulling it in every direction. Limbs tore, muscles shredded, yet the crawler’s body still twisted, alive and fighting.
Even with chunks of flesh torn away, its brain remained intact. The bloater opened its massive jaw wide and began swallowing the crawler whole. Bit by bit, the smaller creature disappeared into the monster’s mouth.
Jaxon’s eyes widened. Shock, disgust, and confusion churned inside him. ’I don’t care what it is, it’s an infected, and it’s blocking our way.’
He slid quietly along the side, keeping the two girls out of sight.
While the bloater continued to consume the crawler, Jaxon positioned himself behind it at a safe distance. He took careful aim and fired. Silent bullets pierced the back of its head, striking with deadly precision.
He expected it to collapse, but it didn’t.
Instead, the bloater’s massive body twisted toward him. Two of the grotesque heads turned, letting out a roar before lunging forward.
’Why didn’t it die?’ Jaxon’s mind raced. ’...because it has multiple heads?’
It didn’t take long for him to realize he would have to destroy every single head, at least seven more.
It was faster than he expected. Despite its bloated, grotesque frame, the creature charged at him with terrifying speed. Its multiple limbs weren’t just appendages, they propelled it forward, helping it sprint like a nightmare engine as the floor shook under its weight with every step.
Jaxon didn’t flinch. He opened fire, hitting two more of its heads with precise shots. Still, the bloater kept closing in.
He darted toward a pillar, hoping to use it as cover. The massive infected smashed through it effortlessly, the debris splintering around him without slowing it at all.
Thup. Thup. Thup. Silent bullets tore through the air as Jaxon ran, sliding between stores, leaping over overturned shelves, parkouring across counters to keep distance. He glanced back, firing in short bursts whenever a head came into sight.
’This infected is tough as hell,’ he thought, rolling under a fallen display. ’Maybe I should have brought the DMR instead. Normally, one or two shots would drop a target, but this thing is absorbing multiple hits like it was nothing.’
The creature closed in. Its massive, sticky arm whipped toward him. But Jaxon rolled to the side, narrowly avoiding it, popping up and firing another round into one of the heads. Two still remained.
He dove behind a display, pushing off the floor with his legs, rolling into another aisle. His heart pounded as he spun to fire, but then, one of the bloated infected’s arms snaked around his leg, crushing his boot against the tile. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
He gritted his teeth, pulling with all his strength, twisting to free himself. The floor rattled with the creature’s struggle, and Jaxon knew he couldn’t stop moving for long.
Before it could drag him further, a sudden beam of light cut through the darkness. Cindy and Na-rin fired their pistols, the bullets striking one of the creature’s writhing heads, making it roar in raw, pained fury.
Jaxon yanked his leg free, firing at the arm that had grabbed him. He pushed himself backward and stood as he aimed carefully and fired at the seventh head. With a wet, gurgling thud, the bloated infected collapsed to the floor, its massive body twitching but still alive.
Jaxon stepped closer, his M16 steady, and froze for a moment. On its back, the last head, the young girl, gasped weakly. Blood streaked her face, her lips trembling as she whispered one final, broken word. "Help..."
Gritting his teeth, Jaxon pulled the trigger. The head slumped, and a soft chime in his mind confirmed the kill.
He stood there for a long moment, chest heaving, staring down at the corpse at his feet.
Footsteps approached. Cindy and Na-rin arrived beside him, faces pale and tense.
"Brother... are you okay?" Cindy asked, her voice tight with worry. Her gaze fell on the fallen creature, and she shivered.
Na-rin’s reaction was sharper, urgency in every word. "Jaxon, we have to move! The shaking and the noise earlier, anyone nearby will have heard it. We can’t stay here!"
Jaxon took a deep, slow breath, forcing calm into his racing heart. He nodded. "Right, let’s go."
Together, the three of them moved carefully, ascending toward the highest floor, alert to every shadow and sound around them.
