Chapter 135: Chapter 135: Hunter Returns

Meanwhile, on the ground floor of the shopping mall, the quiet did not last long.

Glass windows shattered as infected forced their way inside. Doors slammed open under the pressure of bodies pushing through. Drawn by the noise and roars from earlier, the infected flooded into the building.

Above them, on the rooftop, Jaxon and the two girls had just arrived.

The three stepped carefully toward the edge and looked down. Dozens of infected were already pouring through the entrances below, spreading through the first floor like a dark wave.

Cindy’s face turned pale. "They’re going to reach us soon," she said, fear creeping into her voice. "What do we do, Brother?"

"Calm down," Jaxon said quietly.

Na-rin glanced at him. Despite the situation, his expression remained steady, and strangely, it helped her stay calm as well.

"What’s your plan?" she asked.

Jaxon didn’t answer right away. His eyes scanned the nearby buildings.

Then he pointed. "There."

Not far from them stood another building. Its rooftop was slightly higher than the one they were on. It wasn’t extremely far, but it wasn’t close either.

Then he turned to Cindy. "Get on my back. I’ll take you across first."

"Huh?" Cindy blinked, confused.

Before she could say anything else, Jaxon pulled her onto his back in a quick piggyback hold. "Hold tight, Cindy."

He stored his rifle inside his storage space and stepped several meters away from the edge of the roof.

By then, Cindy and Na-rin had already figured out what he intended to do.

"Brother..." Cindy murmured nervously as she looked at the wide gap between the buildings. Her body tensed on instinct, but she forced herself to cling tightly to him instead.

"Just close your eyes for a moment," Jaxon said calmly.

Then he ran.

His footsteps pounded against the rooftop as he sprinted straight toward the edge. When he reached it, he pushed all his strength into his legs.

Without hesitation, he leaped. His body shot into the air, clearing the edge of the building as he soared toward the distant rooftop.

It happened so fast that Cindy barely had time to react.

One moment they were at the edge of the roof. The next moment, the wind rushed past her ears.

Thud. Jaxon landed smoothly on the other rooftop, both feet touching down with solid balance.

For a moment, Cindy just stayed on his back, frozen.

When she slowly opened her eyes, she blinked in confusion. Then she looked around and realized they were already on the other building.

Her eyes widened in disbelief.

She quickly turned her head and saw Na-rin still standing on the other rooftop they had just left.

"What just..." Cindy blinked several times, still trying to process it. "Brother, you..."

But before she could finish, the shock on her face quickly turned into excitement. "That was amazing, Brother!"

Jaxon chuckled softly and shook his head at her reaction. Thinking about it now, maybe he had hidden too much of his physical strength from them.

"Wait here," he said. "I’ll bring Na-rin over."

He turned slightly and added, "Contact Natasha for me. Tell her about our situation. Ask them to stand by and wait for us."

Cindy nodded quickly. "Got it."

Without wasting time, Jaxon stepped back again and sprinted toward the edge of the rooftop.

A second later, he jumped back across the gap. The distance vanished in a single leap.

Only a few moments later, he returned with Na-rin on his back.

When Jaxon gently set her down, Na-rin just stood there, staring at him in silence.

Her eyes were wide as she looked at the rooftop they had just come from. She had always known Jaxon was stronger than normal. But jumping across that gap so easily...

That was something beyond what a normal human could do.

Jaxon noticed the look on her face and lightly tapped her forehead. "Don’t stand too close to the edge," he said. "The infected might spot us again."

Na-rin finally blinked, snapping out of her daze. Then she looked at him again, curiosity clear in her eyes. "How did you do that?"

After a short pause, she added quietly, "Is that... another one of your abilities?"

She was already starting to connect the dots. After all, Jaxon also had that strange storage ability that shouldn’t even exist.

Jaxon stayed silent for a moment, looking straight into Na-rin’s eyes as if deciding how much he should reveal.

"I can’t tell you everything," he finally said. "But every time I kill an infected... I grow stronger."

"What?" Both Cindy and Na-rin spoke at the same time, their eyes widening in shock.

Until now, only Natasha knew about it. Jaxon had kept it hidden from the others. But after everything that had happened, he realized that constantly holding back his abilities, especially when they were fighting together, could become dangerous for the group.

"I thought you only earned coins from killing them," Cindy said, narrowing her eyes at him. Her cheeks puffed slightly in annoyance as the realization sank in. "You’ve really been hiding a lot from us."

"Sorry." He didn’t try to explain further.

Cindy looked a little upset at first, but the feeling quickly faded. She understood that something like that was probably safer if fewer people knew about it. Still, she couldn’t help feeling a little grumpy.

"So killing infected makes you stronger, huh..." she muttered.

Jaxon nodded. "You will too..."

Na-rin’s brows furrowed immediately. "What do you mean by that?" she asked, clearly catching the meaning behind his words.

But Jaxon simply shook his head. "I can’t say more right now."

Both Cindy and Na-rin stared at him with slightly puffed cheeks, clearly dissatisfied with the half-answer.

Their eyes sharpened with curiosity, as if silently deciding they would definitely find out the rest someday.

Seeing their expressions, Jaxon could only shrug. Then he walked closer to the edge of the rooftop and looked down at the streets below. Dozens of infected were still rushing into the building they had just escaped from.

"Alright," he said calmly as he pulled out his rifle from storage. "Get ready. We’re starting the hunt."
