My spirit animal is a F–Rank gecko-Chapter 29: The first special bond exam (15)
(Kaya POV)
Kaya frowned. She had left Cameron and Gaddy so she could search for Stacy and Brandon.
But she got lost in the forest and didn’t know where to go.
"Stupid team!"
She kept on walking until she heard a twitching sound.
Kaya immediately scanned where the sound was. She fired her bow, which pierced into the bushes.
After she fired that bow, she heard it hit something, and it squealed.
Curious, she went towards the sound.
She looked inside the bush and saw that the arrow had hit a caterpillar.
The caterpillar twitched violently while making a squealing noise.
"Aww. Poor guy. I’m so sorry, buddy.."
To end the caterpillar’s misery, Kaya took the arrow that was stuck in the caterpillar’s body and stabbed its head.
It stopped twitching and stopped making a sound. Kaya was about to go until she saw something unusual on the caterpillar.
Around its body, there was a purple spot that scarily looked like an eye.
The pupil contracted, and then closed. The purple glow started fading, then turning into a black spot.
"The fuck was that kind of caterpillar?"
Just then, Kaya heard a girl scream.
She abandoned the caterpillar and started heading towards the girl.
The screams became louder and louder.
Kaya noticed a student standing in the middle of nowhere in the forest.
Kaya extended her hand and was about to open her mouth until—
CRUNCH.
She heard a loud crunching noise, as if someone was eating something.
She immediately ducked and noticed the student looked lifeless, with her face turned the other way.
Just then, Kaya saw a woman’s hands touch the girl’s shoulder.
The woman had bright red nails, and her hands were creepily long.
CRUNCH.
The noise became louder and louder until the woman’s hands traced the student’s neck and onto the girl’s head.
Then the woman slowly twisted the head.
"NO—" Kaya stopped herself from talking; she covered her mouth with her hands.
The student’s head slowly turned and faced Kaya. The absolute terror on the student’s face haunted her.
Her mouth was gaping, while her eyes were bloodshot.
As if it was nothing, the woman ripped the girl’s head from her body.
And the head dropped to the ground while rolling on the leaves.
This finally revealed the woman’s face.
She had crazy long teal hair color. The hair looked like tentacles, as they were everywhere.
The woman’s eyes were bright red with wide black pupils. Her teeth were sharp like a vampire’s.
But the woman had an office suit on, not fitting her cannibalistic look.
Kaya watched in terror as the woman dug her face into the student’s body, while blood sprayed everywhere, staining her black suit.
Kaya, not wanting to watch more, immediately sprinted away from the scene.
Unbeknownst to Kaya, the woman had already seen her. The crazy woman smiled wickedly while licking her lips.
Kaya kept on running while closing her eyes.
She kept repeating to herself.
"This is not real! This is not real! This is—"
She accidentally bumped into something, and fell to the ground.
Rubbing her head, she finally opened her eyes. And her blood ran cold.
The woman was standing in front of her, towering over the poor girl.
She licked her lips.
"Ohhh~~~~"
The woman finally spoke. Surprisingly, she had a very hight pitch feminine voice.
"No... Please!"
Kaya tried to crawl away, but the woman just looked at the pitiful girl.
She then grabbed a scalpel from her hair and immediately stabbed it into her leg.
"AAAAAAHHH!!!"
Kaya immediately felt the sharp, cold metal go through her flesh.
She looked at her leg, and the scalpel had cleanly gone through her thigh.
Kaya’s breath hitched. She was terrified while sobbing at the same time.
"Ohh~~~ You have such beautiful hair!"
The woman traced Kaya’s silky soft hair.
She ran her long fingernails through the hair, then grabbed a bunch of it.
She then put it in front of her nose and smelled it violently.
"STOP! WHAT ARE YOU DOING—"
To stop Kaya from talking back, the woman scraped the scalpel further into her thigh.
Kaya was sobbing again while the woman continued smelling her hair.
"Haaaa~~~" Her black pupils contracted.
"Did you know that each strand of hair has blood in them?" She smiled, looking at Kaya.
"What....?" Kaya asked with teary eyes.
"It’s okay, my dear~~~" The crazy woman gently rubbed Kaya’s tears away with her red nails.
"I’ll make sure I get all of the blood inside of you!"
She smiled so wide that it showed all her sharp teeth covering her entire mouth.
"NO... NO, NO, NO... NOOOOOOOO!"
That was the last time Kaya ever spoke. Her scream echoed throughout the forest.
---
"What’s exactly happening?!" Jade flew through the forest. She felt her hummingbirds getting knocked out one by one.
"This is not normal!" Jade flew up from the forest and went into the sky.
Her face went pale. Half of the forest had almost been engulfed in mysterious gray smoke.
Jade pinched her nose; she almost puked after smelling a dead body coming from the smoke.
"THE FIRST YEARS!"
Jade pulled out a hummingbird from her hair.
"Tell all the student council to meet in the Silver Mountain forest! Tell them it’s an emergency—the first years are in danger!"
The hummingbird nodded its head.
It then flew into the sky and headed towards the city.
"The first years are in danger! I need to find them!"
Jade tried to connect with all her hummingbirds, but one by one, she felt her connection with the birds fade.
Until she couldn’t feel any of the hummingbirds she had put inside the forest.
Jade’s face went pale. She didn’t know what to do.
"The headmaster is away right now... And the student council is away, especially Kai! Is our school getting attacked by terrorists?"
Just then, a long teal hair shot through the forest and into the sky.
It then slapped Jade. Unable to react quickly enough, she fell into the forest.
Jade tried to cover her face from all the branches poking all over her.
And she slammed straight into the ground, her head spinning uncontrollably.
"Did someone attack me? What just happened...?"
The smoke had reached Jade, and it slowly went around her, surrounding Jade.
"Shit. The enemy can strike me anytime!"
Jade tried to fly away but failed miserably.
Her wings had been injured by the mysterious attack.
With nowhere to go, the smoke had engulfed Jade. And now she was surrounded inside it.
The smoke reeked of blood and corpses, and it was so thick she couldn’t see anything in sight.
"Great. What should I do..."
All of a sudden, Jade’s head and eyes felt heavy.
She tried to walk away, but she immediately wobbled and dropped to the ground.
"Is... Is it the smoke?"
She had inhaled too much of the smoke. Jade felt her body rotting from the inside.
Just then, she heard a woman clapping.
Coming out of the forest was the cannibal girl that had eaten Kaya.
But instead of her wild monster form, what stood looked like an elegant lady.
She was neatly dressed, with her hair straightened.
But her eyes were still fully red, and instead of the pupils that looked like an animal’s, they looked more human.
"Wow, I’m shocked!" The woman said teasingly at Jade.
"You...! It’s you who made the fog, isn’t it?!"
Jade couldn’t even lift her head; she could only talk with her face towards the girl.
"Yeah, you could say that. This smoke is filled with poison gas that’ll rot your body from within!"
The woman smiled; her teeth looked more normal now.
She bent down to meet Jade face to face. She then lifted her chin.
"In the next hour, your body organs will give out, and the blood inside you will turn green. I guess this is how you die.... Jade!"
Jade’s eyes shot up.
How does she know my name.... How... She’s..."
Jade couldn’t finish her sentence before passing out.
Jade was now at the mercy of the woman, with no way out, and her body rotting from within.
