My Three Beautiful Vampire Wives can hear my Inner Thoughts-Chapter 137: Devouring Blood Tree
Cain stood quietly in the middle of the broken ground as the air of the Nightmare Realm trembled with distant movement.
The sky above looked like torn black cloth stitched together with faint crimson lines.
The earth under his boots was dark and wet, soaked with the blood of creatures that had already fallen here.
He raised one hand calmly.
"Devouring Blood Tree."
The moment those words left his mouth, a small sapling pushed through the cracked soil beside him.
It was thin at first. Fragile looking. Barely taller than his knee. Its bark looked pale red like fresh flesh rather than wood, and its roots slowly crawled through the ground like thin veins searching for blood.
Cain crouched down and stared at it.
His crimson eyes glowed faintly.
"Don’t worry," he said in a relaxed voice. "I’ll feed you."
The tiny sapling trembled.
Then it swayed gently from side to side as if responding happily.
Cain chuckled softly.
"That’s right. Grow well."
Far above the ground, the wind howled loudly.
Several figures cut through the dark sky like arrows.
They were fast.
Dozens of winged shapes flew through the clouds while heading directly toward the place where Cain stood.
Their bodies looked strange and unsettling.
Their lower bodies looked mostly human. They had arms, legs, and torsos shaped like humans, yet everything above their shoulders looked completely different.
Instead of human heads, they had the heads of birds.
Sharp curved beaks.
Golden predatory eyes.
Their upper bodies were covered in thick feathers that gleamed like polished metal. Their arms had feathers growing along them like wings, and every time they flapped, the air around them burst with powerful wind pressure.
They were a proud race that ruled the skies of the Nightmare Realm.
The Sky Talons.
One of them looked down and laughed loudly.
"Hahaha! Look at that! The signal really came from here!"
Another one flew beside him and narrowed his sharp eyes.
"There’s someone standing down there."
"Just one man?"
"Yes."
The first bird warrior laughed again.
"So all that disturbance in the mana flow was caused by a single man?"
Another voice joined in.
"Maybe he is some kind of fool who doesn’t understand where he is."
Their wings beat strongly as they descended lower toward the ground.
One of them smirked.
"Let’s capture him. The commander might want to question him."
Suddenly—
The ground below them exploded.
Several blood red tentacles shot upward like spears.
Each one looked like a long blade made of hardened blood. They twisted violently as they rose toward the flying creatures.
The bird warriors reacted quickly.
They flapped their wings and darted to the side.
The blood tentacles slashed through empty air.
Whoosh!
Whoosh!
Whoosh!
Not a single one of them was hit.
For a moment, there was silence in the sky.
Then the bird warriors burst into loud laughter.
"Hahaha!"
"Is that supposed to catch us?"
Another one circled in the air while shaking his feathered head.
"What a joke!"
They looked down at the tentacles with mocking expressions.
"We are the rulers of the sky. Our eyes can see every movement in the air. Our wings can dodge any attack."
Another one sneered.
"You think slow attacks like that can touch us?"
One bird warrior pointed his clawed finger downward.
"Whoever is controlling those things must be stupid."
More laughter filled the air.
They circled above the battlefield like arrogant predators.
"Come on! Try again!"
"Maybe you’ll get lucky!"
Meanwhile, on the ground below, Cain sat cross legged on a large rock.
He looked completely relaxed.
He watched the flying creatures like someone watching birds in a park.
"Hmm."
He tilted his head slightly.
"So noisy."
He did not even bother standing up.
Behind him, the tiny blood sapling continued to sway happily.
Then something happened.
The tentacles that had missed their targets stopped moving.
For a brief moment, everything became quiet.
The bird warriors continued laughing.
"Did it give up already?"
"That was fast."
But suddenly—
The tips of the tentacles burst open.
From each blood blade, several smaller tentacles exploded outward like branches from a tree.
They shot forward in different directions with terrifying speed.
Before the bird warriors could evade, the new tentacles appeared directly in front of them.
One of them froze.
"What—"
A tentacle wrapped around his leg.
"Wha— WAIT!"
Another wrapped around his arm.
Then another coiled around his waist.
The bird warrior screamed.
"HELP ME!"
His wings beat wildly as he tried to escape.
The tentacle tightened.
His bones cracked loudly.
Other bird warriors rushed toward him.
"Cut it!"
"Cut the tentacle!"
One of them drew a curved blade and slashed at the blood tentacle.
Clang!
The blade struck the surface.
But the tentacle did not even split.
The warrior stared in shock.
"What...?"
Another one attacked with a spear.
Bang!
The spear bounced off like it hit solid steel.
The captured bird warrior screamed louder.
"GET IT OFF ME!"
Suddenly—
Another tentacle shot upward and wrapped around the warrior who tried to help.
"WHAT?!"
More tentacles burst from the ground.
They moved like living whips.
One after another they wrapped around wings, legs, and torsos.
Bird warriors who had laughed moments ago now screamed in panic.
"NO!"
"LET GO!"
"CUT THEM!"
They tried slashing and stabbing the tentacles again and again.
But every strike failed.
The blood tentacles were unbelievably tough.
The more they struggled, the tighter the coils became.
One by one they were dragged downward.
The sky filled with desperate screams.
Their wings flapped wildly as they were pulled toward the ground like fish caught in a massive net.
From a distance they looked like chickens trapped inside a farmer’s cage.
Some cried.
"HELP!"
"DON’T LET THEM DRAG ME!"
But no one escaped.
The blood tentacles pulled them down slowly.
Their voices faded as they disappeared beneath the ground.
...
Deep underground, another group of creatures moved through the dark soil.
Their bodies were thick and powerful.
They dug through earth and stone with incredible speed.
These creatures were known as the Burrow Clan.
Their lower bodies looked human, yet everything above their shoulders resembled giant mole rats.
Their faces had long teeth and twitching whiskers.
Their arms were covered in rough brown fur, and their hands had massive digging claws.
One of them sniffed the soil.
"Do you feel that?"
Another nodded.
"Yes."
"The mana disturbance."
A third creature grinned.
"Something powerful is happening above."
Their leader spoke calmly.
"Move faster."
They continued digging toward the source.
Then suddenly—
Sharp blood tentacles pierced through the soil in front of them.
The mole creatures froze.
The tentacles slashed toward them.
But the Burrow Clan reacted instantly.
They twisted their bodies and moved aside with ease.
The attacks missed.
The mole creatures stared at the tentacles.
Then they burst into loud laughter.
"Hahaha!"
"That’s your trap?"
Another one scratched his fur covered chest.
"We are the kings of the underground."
A third one sneered.
"No surface creature can catch us down here."
They mocked the tentacles.
"Try again!"
But just like before—
The tentacles that had missed suddenly split open.
More smaller tentacles exploded outward from the same limbs.
They appeared directly in front of the mole creatures.
One of them gasped.
"What—"
A tentacle wrapped around his waist.
He shrieked.
"GET IT OFF!"
Others rushed to help him.
They slashed the tentacle with their claws.
But the blood surface was hard like iron.
Their claws scraped uselessly.
Then another tentacle wrapped around one of the rescuers.
Then another.
Then another.
Within seconds the tunnels were filled with screams.
"NO!"
"LET GO!"
They tried digging away.
But the tentacles moved faster.
They wrapped around bodies and limbs, dragging the creatures through the soil upward like toys.
Their screams echoed through the underground tunnels.
Soon the tunnels fell silent.
...
Back on the surface, the tiny sapling had grown.
It was no longer small.
The trunk had thickened greatly.
Its branches stretched upward like twisted arms reaching toward the dark sky.
But the most disturbing part was the shape of the tree.
Bodies were growing from it.
Half human creatures.
Some looked like birds.
Some looked like mole rats.
Their arms and legs were fused into the bark.
Their faces were frozen in silent horror.
Hair and feathers formed the leaves of the tree.
They fluttered gently in the wind.
It looked like a tree made from living nightmares.
At the very top of the growing tree, Cain now sat comfortably on one of the thick branches.
He rested his chin on his hand while watching the tree grow.
The sapling had become a towering structure of flesh and blood.
The creatures trapped within the bark twitched weakly as their energy was drained.
The Devouring Blood Tree slowly absorbed everything.
Mana.
Blood.
Life.
Cain looked down at it with mild interest.
"Good appetite."
The tree trembled happily.
The branches stretched wider as if thanking him.
Cain leaned back against the trunk and stared at the distant horizon.
More creatures were coming.
He could feel them clearly.
He smiled.
"Well."
His voice was relaxed.
"More nutrients for my blood fruits to grow."
