My Three Beautiful Vampire Wives can hear my Inner Thoughts-Chapter 47: Cornelia’s way
Cain froze.
For a brief moment, all the noise around him dulled, as if the world had been wrapped in thick cloth. The blood guards’ mana pressed down like a warning, the spears hummed with restrained power, and yet none of it mattered compared to the single thought echoing in his head.
Is she really going to do it?
He stared at Cornelia’s back, at the straight line of her shoulders and the calm way she stood before the guards, unyielding, proud, exactly as she had always been. The memory struck him without mercy. Her standing like this in his first life, refusing to bow even before gods, refusing to retreat even when it meant bleeding for it.
...Damn it.
He felt a strange warmth rise in his chest, unwanted and dangerous.
She’s still like this, he thought helplessly. Headstrong. Stubborn. Never backing down. No wonder the past me went insane over her and now, it’s still affecting me.
Unaware of the chaos she was causing,
Cornelia’s lips curved upward.
It was not a big smile. It was subtle, restrained, the kind of expression only someone watching a private victory would show.
To anyone else, it might have looked like confidence.
To Cain, it felt like a trap snapping shut around his ankle.
For some unknown reason, she looked... satisfied.
Cain’s stomach twisted.
Suddenly, he bent slightly forward, one hand pressing to his mouth.
"Ugh—"
Far away behind, Cedrick blinked. "What’s wrong with him now?"
Cain waved a hand quickly. "Nothing. Just— just the air."
What the hell is wrong with me? Why am I finding her extremely beautiful right now? No. No, no, no. This is bad. This is really bad. She’s starting to become like Ivira to me, that same feeling, that same pull—irresistible. Not just to my mind, but to my body too. I have to be careful—really careful! Just because she’s not so ladylike doesn’t mean I need to drop my guard around her.
Suddenly, Cain would look at her.
Fuck! Beauti-
He cursed before he could admit it.
Damn it! Damn it! Resist! Resist!
Meanwhile, Cornelia’s ears felt hot.
Her cheeks flushed before she could stop it.
She did not turn around, but her fingers tightened slightly at her side. She felt it, that strange flutter in her chest, not fear, not anger, but something sharp and warm and dangerously close to anticipation.
So that’s how it is, she thought slowly.
She had been wondering. From the moment she realized Cain was not what he pretended to be, from the moment she truly believed he was an Overgod, she had been troubled by one question.
How do I make someone like him stay?
Seduction had never been her strength. She was not soft-spoken, not gentle, not skilled in the art of coaxing hearts. And he was an Overgod, where she’s sure that he’s someone who had seen worlds rise and fall. What could she possibly offer him?
But now...
If just standing her ground like this could shake him, if just insisting could make his thoughts spiral, then maybe she had found the answer.
Not charm.
Not temptation.
But a strong will.
Cornelia breathed out slowly, steadying herself.
The blood guard nearest to her shifted his stance, spear held firmly across his body.
"Madam," he said, his voice controlled but strained, "are you serious?"
She turned her head slightly, just enough that her profile caught the moonlight. "I am."
The second guard frowned. "Then we must speak plainly. Cain is not of the Moonshade bloodline. His blood is not pure. The Blood Hall does not recognize him."
"That much has already been said," Cornelia replied.
The guard did not back down. "There are rules for this, Madam. Husbands or wives who marry into the family without consummating the union are not acknowledged by the Blood Hall. Without the binding of blood and essence, they remain outsiders."
Cedrick inhaled sharply.
Zed’s eyes widened. Hall cursed under his breath.
The guard continued, his tone respectful but firm.
"This has always been the case. Many political marriages exist within the Moonshade family. Only those who truly become one with the bloodline are allowed passage."
Cain stood very still.
Oh. That’s how it works?
Cornelia’s eyes darkened, but she did not retreat. "He is my chosen husband," she said. "Not forced. Not assigned. Chosen by me and my sisters."
The guards exchanged a glance.
"That does not change the law," the first guard said. "Even if Madam Cornelia chose him, without the binding—"
"We chose him," Cornelia repeated, cutting him off. Her voice sharpened. "All three of us."
The courtyard felt like it might crack under the weight of her words.
Cain watched her, stunned.
She’s really going all in.
A slow, wicked idea crept into his mind, curling like smoke.
Well then... this is my chance.
He straightened, lifted his chin, and stepped forward just enough to be seen clearly.
"So?" he said loudly.
Every eye turned to him.
Cain smiled, not warmly, not kindly, but with an arrogant tilt of his lips that made Cedrick’s eye twitch.
"My wife insists," he said, looking straight at the blood guards. "Who exactly do you think you are to block me?"
The guards stiffened.
Cain continued, voice calm but cutting. "The future head of the Moonshade family stands here and tells you to let her husband enter. And you still argue?"
He let out a soft laugh. "Or do you think your spears matter more than her will?"
Cedrick snapped, "Watch your mouth."
Cain didn’t even look at him behind.
Inside his head, he was laughing.
Hehe. This is perfect. She hates arrogance. She hates men who throw their weight around. If I push this far enough, she’ll definitely find me disgusting. And if the guards get offended, they’ll push back harder, making things messy. Trouble for her. Trouble for me. Eventually, she’ll regret ever dragging me along.
Cornelia heard every word.
Her blush deepened, but this time it was not embarrassment.
So that’s your plan, she thought. You really think I won’t see through it?
The blood guards’ expressions hardened.
"That is enough," one of them said coldly. He slammed the butt of his spear into the ground.
The sound echoed like a drumbeat.
"We will not allow the Blood Hall to be insulted."
The second guard followed suit, his spear striking the stone with equal force. Their mana flared in response, thick and heavy, rolling outward in warning waves.
Cedrick stepped forward immediately. "They are right. These are the rules set by our ancestors."
Zed nodded. "Even we cannot break them."
Hall added, "Madam, please reconsider. This isn’t a matter of pride."
William crossed his arms. "If the Blood Hall reacts, it won’t just be him who suffers."
Their voices overlapped, firm, insistent, all pressing against Cornelia from every side.
Cain almost wanted to applaud.
Yes. Yes. Keep going. Push harder. Make her angry. Make her regret marrying me.
Cornelia listened to them all without interrupting.
Then she lifted her hand.
Silence fell.
She looked at the guards again, then at Cedrick and the others, her expression unreadable.
"So," she said slowly, "what you are saying is that the only thing missing..."
Her gaze flicked briefly to Cain, then back to them.
"...is the consummation of our marriage?"
The words landed like thunder.
Cain’s eyes widened. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
The guards froze.
Cedrick’s mouth fell open.
Zed choked on air.
And Cornelia, standing beneath the moonlight with her back straight and her will unbent, calmly finished. "That is all, right?"
