My Underachieving Seatmate Doesn’t Need Any Comforting-Chapter 51
Chapter 51
Qiao Shao came over with two servings of fruit. He sat down and said bitterly, “Oh, god He Shen’s so popular.”
He Shen was clearly startled. Some warmth quickly returned to his cold and indifferent eyes. “How much did you hear?”
Qiao Shao said, “I heard everything.”
He Shen asked again to make sure, “You heard everything?”
“That’s right!” Qiao Shao said, “Such a pretty girl took the initiative to ask you for your WeChat, and you unexpectedly brushed her off with some nonsense.”
Saying he had no mobile phone and then that he had no WeChat; what a “tactful” rejection!
He Shen’s lips hooked up and he asked, “Jealous?”
Qiao Shao stared blankly but soon glanced at him and said, “Hehe, I’m deathly jealous.”
He Shen’s heart jumped and he asked him, “Really?”
“Of course!” Qiao Shao said unhappily, “In all my years, I have never been hit on!”
He Shen: “…”
Qiao Shao added indignantly, “It’s so nice to be tall. Tall people are winners in every aspect of life!”
His sour tone was like long fermented vinegar, the sour fragrance wafted about for thousands of miles away.
He Shen’s eyes drooped slightly and he didn’t talk for a long while.
Qiao Shao saw that he was in a bad mood and asked, “What’s wrong? Someone just tried to hit on you, that’s all. That’s nothing to be depressed about.”
He Shen looked up at him again.
Qiao Shao looked at him face to face without the least bit of hesitation. His pair of glittering jet-black eyes were clearly saying — ‘What’s the matter? What’s up? What’s going on?’
He Shen smiled slightly and said, “It’s not because of that.”
“Then what’s wrong?” Qiao Shao asked him.
He Shen casually nabbed a piece of fruit and said, “It’s because the watermelon’s not sweet.”
Qiao Shao: “………………”
He Shen tasted the other plate as well and continued, “The musk melon’s not sweet either.”
Qiao Shao said, “That’s impossible. I tasted those myself. They’re quite sweet.”
Qiao Shao took a mouthful of watermelon and was struck by the sweetness. He said silently, “There’s no cure for your taste deficiency!”
This isn’t sweet enough? If this was any sweeter, it would hurt your throat.
He Shen put down his fork and insisted, “It’s not sweet.”
Qiao Shao: “…”
Why did he feel like this guy was throwing a tantrum?
It must be his imagination…
Because the fruit wasn’t sweet, He Shen seemed to have also lost interest in eating barbecue. Qiao Shao saw how he was acting and said helplessly, “Just wait here for a bit.”
He Shen looked at him. “Huh?”
Qiao Shao stood up and said, “I’ll be back quickly.”
He Shen thought he had eaten his fill and had now grown impatient waiting for him. He said, “Let’s go then. Let’s head back to school.”
Qiao Shao said, “What’s the hurry? You’ve barely eaten anything.”
He Shen had been about to say that he wasn’t hungry when Qiao Shao pressed him back down on his chair and said, “Just wait a minute. I will be back soon!”
He Shen was coaxed by his soft tone and no longer stood up again.
Qiao Shao left the restaurant.
Most of these internet famous restaurants were built in such-and-such commercial building, and this restaurant was no exception.
When they came in, Qiao Shao had spotted a milk tea store. He ran over there and said, “Hello, I’d like a cup of iced milk tea with extra sugar.”
The young lady at the tea shop asked him, “Is double the sugar okay?”
“That’s…” Qiao Shao thought about his seatmate’s heavy tastes, and said, “Add another spoonful to that double.”
Any more would simply be impossible. No one could possibly stand that much sugar!
The young lady was amused and she asked him with a smile. “Milk tea by itself is already pretty sweet. Does your girlfriend love sugar that much?”
Qiao Shao gave a dry laugh. “I’m not buying it for a girlfriend.”
The server was surprised. “I thought … sorry, I thought you were buying it for someone else.”
From his tone, she thought she was a young boy who was indulging his little girlfriend.
Qiao Shao clarified quickly, “It’s not for me. I’m buying it for someone else.”
The young lady blinked.
Qiao Shao said, “But it’s for not for a girlfriend, it’s for a boyfr– …”
He paused and the server’s eyes widened!
Qiao Shao thought to himself, ‘That was a close call. My tongue almost slipped!’
It’s all He Shen’s fault for spouting such nonsense all day long. Now, he’s got him talking nonsense too.
“Ah …” Qiao Shao corrected himself, “It’s for my seatmate.”
“Oh! Oh, oh!” The young lady’s heart was racing. She didn’t dare ask too much anymore. She just placed particular care in making his milk tea; she even put two little hearts on top of the milk froth.
Qiao Shao said, “Thank you!”
The server smiled brilliantly. “No need for thanks. Please come again.”
And it’d be best if you came with your seatmate, aaaahhhh!
Qiao Shao came back with the milk tea. He Shen with his cheek in his hand, was bored to death while waiting.
Qiao Shao found it quite funny. Normally, this guy could do anything, so strong that it seemed like he could prop up even the sky should it fall down.
But there were also times like this when he was having a tantrum. And the reason for it was so childish, just because the fruit wasn’t sweet!
Qiao Shao wanted to post this picture on East High’s forum. If he revealed the true face of their god of learning, all his brainless little sister fans would surely be astounded!
“Here.” Qiao Shao passed him the milk tea.
He Shen was dazed. “You …”
Qiao Shao looked at him with a smile, “Try it, I guarantee that it’s sweet.”
That’s one more spoonful on top of double the sugar. If that isn’t sweet, I’ll kill you.
The downcast look in He Shen’s eyes was mostly gone. He smiled, “Did you run to buy me milk tea?”
Qiao Shao said, “I also asked the store to double the sugar.”
Who would have thought that He Shen would say, “That may not necessarily be sweet.”
Qiao Shao urged him, “Taste it first.”
He Shen looked at the milk tea and looked back at him, “You’re not drinking?”
Qiao Shao said, “I can’t drink that much sugar.”
He loves his black coffee more. Strong and bitter — now that’s the drink of a real man.
He Shen stuck a straw into the milk tea and took a sip.
Qiao Shao watched him impatiently. “How is it?” That should be enough to satisfy you!
He Shen ‘hmm’-ed. “You take a sip.”
He pushed the milk tea to him.
Qiao Shao waved it away. “I don’t want it.”
This time, it was He Shen’s turn to urge him. “Have a taste.”
Qiao Shao said, “I really don’t like this kind of sweet and cloying stuff …” But he still moved closer to take a sip. Then, he immediately shot back at He Shen. “That’s extremely sweet!”
He Shen lowered his head and bit the straw. He said softly, “En, it’s really sweet.”
Qiao Shao saw the corner of his eyes slowly rise, and his own heart slowly fell back into place.
It was kind of amusing to coax this kind of grumpy He Tang Tang. Qiao Shao felt the sweetness in his mouth seep into his heart.
Speaking of, this guy unexpectedly has someone he likes. Though, he had no idea what kind of girl it was. Qiao Shao kind of wanted to ask, but for some inexplicable reason he couldn’t bring himself to do so.
After dinner, they went back to school. Normally, day students wouldn’t come to school until tomorrow, but He Shen said, “I’m also half a boarder. I’m here to leave a change of clothes.”
Lou Xiao’s closet was full of He Shen’s clothes, and the school tyrant never used his closet.
Before, Qiao Shao had been curious. With things like this, why doesn’t He Shen just stay in school? Now he understood. If he stayed in the dormitories, he wouldn’t be able to stay up all night to work.
They went up to their dorm room and found the door to 516 half open. Qiao Shao was puzzled. Chen Su was the kind of good kid who would automatically close the door. How could he have forgotten to close it?
Then he heard voices in the room.
It turned out that Blue Hair had returned to school early.
Wei Jiayu’s voice was its usual condescending tone. “Four-eyed Chen, have you finished your homework?”
Don’t look at how Chen Su and Wei Jiayu had been roommates for more than half a year. Their relationship was actually more raw that those between strangers. The number of words they exchanged during the half past year could probably be counted on both hands.
Wei Jiayu unexpectedly took the initiative to talk to Chen Su…
If this had happened before, Qiao Shao might have been worried that Wei Jiayu was bullying Chen Su. Now though, he could still remember that terrified but also handsome Blue Hair in the ice rink.
Chen Su said indifferently. “It’s finished.”
Wei Jiayu asked again, “It’s all done?”
“En,” Chen Su added, “We’re in different classes. We have different homework.”
Wei Jiayu understood what he was implying. “Who would want to copy your homework!”
Chen Su said, “You wouldn’t be able to copy it even if you did.”
Wei Jiayu was almost rendered speechless. “I’m not in any mood to copy!’
Chen Su: “Oh.”
Blue Hair paused, then cleared his throat and said, “I …”
Chen Su directly cut him off. “I won’t answer your homework for you either.”
Qiao Shao, who was outside the door, almost burst out laughing.
Chen Su, you’re so strong! That’s a real man!
Blue Hair was shamed into anger. “Who the f*ck would ask you to answer my homework!”
Chen Su said, “Then, what are you doing?”
These two normally didn’t speak to each other. All of a sudden, the other asked him if he had finished his homework. What else could it be aside from asking to copy his homework or asking him to help with his homework?
Chen Su really couldn’t be blamed for thinking this way. It was because of Wei Jiayu’s long history of misdeeds.
Wei Jiayu felt conflicted for a while, and then finally said, “I meant to say…” His voice grew smaller and smaller. It was obvious how challenging this was for to say.
Chen Su as listening, “Hm?”
Wei Jiayu said in a rush. “If you’re finished with your homework, maybe you can tutor me!”
Not to mention Chen Su, even Qiao Shao and He Shen, outside the door, were also stunned.
Qiao Shao looked at He Shen, who gestured to his lips.
Qiao Shao understood, and silently used his finger to make a “sshh” gesture.
He Shen’s fingers felt itchy.
Inside the room, Chen Su had just returned to his senses. “What?” He thought he was having auditory hallucinations.
Wei Jiayu might act tough but he was cowardly at heart. “Can’t you understand human speech? If you have time, can you tutor me!”
Chen Su looked at him. “Tutor you?”
“You can’t?” Wei Jiayu added, “I won’t treat you unfairly. Once a week is fine, I’ll pay you 200 yuan per session!”
Chen Su was stunned.
Wei Jiayu said irritably, “My mother hired a tutor for me and he’s so annoying. I promised that as long as she gets rid of the tutor, I’ll advance ten places during the final exam.”
Chen Su said, “So you want me …”
“You can just say no!” Wei Jiayu was fierce.
“He’ll do it!” Qiao Shao opened the door and couldn’t help saying, “Of course, he will!”
Two hundred yuan! That was enough to improve Chen Su’s living conditions!
Wei Jiayu flushed upon seeing Qiao Shao and He Shen, “You guys … are back so early.”
Qiao Shao happily patted Wei Jiayu’s shoulder and said, “Come on, with Chen Su tutoring you, your final exam will improve by leaps and bounds!”
He knew that Wei Jiayu was helping Chen Su in disguise.
This was great. Qiao Shao had been trying his best to pretend to be poor and had no way to help Chen Su financially.
When Wei Jiayu was embarrassed to the extreme he would turn rude. “I still don’t know if he’s up to that level.”
Chen Su’s originally tense face gradually relaxed. He said, “I’ll tutor you, but you don’t need to pay me.”
Wei Jiayu looked at him, “And I don’t want to owe you any favors.”
This kid really didn’t know how to speak.
Chen Su also had somewhat of an understanding of his personality and so he didn’t get angry. “You’ve been looking after us really well as the dorm room leader, it’s only right that I tutor you.”
There were midnight snacks and toiletries; Wei Jiayu was already subsidizing a lot.
Wei Jiayu said, “How can that be considered the same? That is…my responsibility as dorm room leader!”
With He Shen here, Wei Jiayu didn’t dare say he was Xiao Ge’s spy!
“In any case, it’s not the same thing,” Wei Jiayu said, “I never owe people. If you want to tutor me, you have to accept payment.”
The way this conversation was going, it was like Chen Su was asking him to let him tutor him.
Qiao Shao was delighted. “He’ll take it. Come on, Chen Su, agree already. Anyway, if they hire a tutor, Wei Jiayu will still have to pay him.”
Wei Jiayu snorted, “That private tutor doesn’t teach sh*t, and his rate is four hundred per session.”
Chen Su paused.
Wei Jiayu glanced at him and said, “I’m not pitying you, alright? I wouldn’t look for you if you weren’t in the top three for our year.”
Qiao Shao quickly said, “Yeah, that’s right. Look, he didn’t look for me, see?”
Wei Jiayu: “………”
He Shen chuckled loudly.
Chen Su also smiled and said, “Two hundred is too much, fifty …”
“You know, you’re really annoying,” Wei Jiayu said. “You think you’re only worth fifty yuan? Well, I don’t want to get tutoring from someone who’s only worth fifty yuan!”
Chen Su was dazed.
Wei Jiayu stared at him again and said, “If you have time to think about these things, you might as well use it to think about how to help me improve my grades. I don’t want money, I want to get good grades!”
Qiao Shao almost burst into tears when he heard this. We are kindred spirits, Comrade Blue Hair!
Chen Su paused for a while and said, “Thank you.” The youth’s always calm voice sounded a bit choked.
Wei Jiayu said, “Stop talking nonsense and quickly study how to you’ll tutor me!”
With this matter settled, Qiao Shao was in good spirits as he headed to the classroom with He Shen.
He suddenly remembered, “Speaking of, you also tutor me. Shouldn’t I be paying you?”
He Shen was very short of money. If he gave him a hundred thousand per session, with just 100 sessions, he’d have ten million.
This tutor would be Young Master Qiao’s request.
He Shen looked at him, “You don’t have to pay me.”
Young Master Qiao sobered up. He was pretending to be a poor student for the time being.
Qiao Shao asked him, “Then what should I give you?”
Just as He Shen set foot on the stairs, he said, “Hmm … Just promise me your hand in marriage.”
