Chapter 48: It was their father-daughter moment!

Scarlet Mansion.

Luna stood in the middle of the main hall, her arms crossed and her expression oscillating between resignation and despair.

She had been living there for over a week and could already say with certainty that she had entered a new stage in her life... a very confusing stage.

Sigh!

Luna sighed again.

If there were a sighing competition, she would already have the gold medal.

Right now, she was in a bind.

Well, not a significant issue... but rather an uncomfortable one.

After many years of exemplary service, the Kalt family, to whom she had devoted years, her former mistress, "dispensed with her services." In simple terms, she was fired. And, as if fate had a fierce sense of humor, she now had a new master.

Lord Lucien.

Her new "employer" was not exactly an ordinary person. Although Luna had no objections to serving him—on the contrary, she even felt satisfied—there was something that deeply disturbed her.

Her salary?

Her retirement plan?

Did she have vampire health insurance?

What about vacations? Vacations were sacred!

She sighed again, letting herself fall onto the sofa with a melodramatic air.

"What do I do now?" she murmured, staring at the ceiling with an existential emptiness worthy of a tragedy.

’I suppose... I’ll wait for Lord Lucien to return,’ she finally thought, resigning herself to her fate.

Because, after all, if she had learned anything in her years of service, it was that in any noble house, the real dangers were not vampires... but work schedules.

...

The mansion’s training room.

Roxana and Walter had been getting along all this time since Lucien went to train behind closed doors with Scarlet.

Walter, who has a solid foundation, was teaching this to Roxana and noticed something:

"Lady Roxana, your foundation is precarious. How did you train all this time?" Walter asked as he looked at Roxana, who was lying on the floor.

He realized this a week ago. Although he had a great deal of power, he was basically a complete disaster; it was as if he had trained him, but not enough... he was too rough.

Roxana slowly sat up, placing one hand on the floor before standing up completely. Her breathing was somewhat heavy, and a few loose strands of hair fell across her face. With a quick gesture, she brushed them aside and gathered her hair back.

"I didn’t have anyone to teach me properly," she finally murmured, letting out a sigh laden with frustration.

That simple acknowledgment carried more weight than Walter imagined. It was one of the reasons she had been unable to defeat the bald hunter of the Inquisition: she had strength to spare, but she lacked control.

Walter watched her silently. Over the last few days, he had noticed the same thing: Roxana possessed overwhelming power, but her execution was chaotic.

Her movements lacked fluidity, and her way of channeling power was more instinctive than technical.

It had potential, yes... but without a solid foundation, that power was like a river in flood.

That was why she had come to him.

"I see..." Walter murmured, crossing his arms and nodding gravely. "Then there’s no choice. We have to start from scratch, Lady Roxana."

"I understand," she replied, nodding without hesitation.

Walter raised an eyebrow, surprised.

"What’s wrong?" Roxana asked, noticing his expression.

"I’m just surprised you accepted it so easily," he admitted with a slight smile. "Most people would refuse. Starting from scratch seems humiliating to them... or boring."

Roxana let out a small, brief, yet sincere laugh. "I won’t deny that I find it boring," she said as she tied her hair back in a ponytail. "But I was the one who decided to ask for your help. If you say I should start from scratch, it’s because you know more than I do, right?"

Her eyes rose to Walter’s, with a determination she had not shown before.

"That’s why I’ll follow your training to the letter. I don’t want to be weak anymore. I want to improve."

Walter looked at her silently for a few seconds. Then something changed in his countenance: his expression softened, and a small smile appeared on his face.

"That’s a good attitude, Lady Roxana," he said firmly, though with an almost proud tone.

"So..." Roxana clenched her fists, a spark of excitement in her eyes. "Shall we begin?"

Walter nodded, straightening his posture.

"Of course, Lady Roxana."

The air in the room seemed to grow thicker. They looked at each other with the seriousness of people about to cross a threshold.

The real training was just about to begin.

...

Kalt Mansion.

After Selene’s arrival, the mansion’s usual calm had disappeared entirely.

What was once a quiet and orderly place now resembled a mixture of a training camp and an emotional war zone.

And in the midst of all that domestic chaos was Luan, the owner of the mansion, sunk in silent depression.

His beloved daughter had returned, yes... but not because she missed him, nor out of nostalgia, nor out of any filial gesture of love.

No.

He came back because his "beloved son-in-law," Lucien, had gone to train behind closed doors.

It still hurts. Not the absence, but the reason. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

Luan had spent days repeating to himself: "It’s okay, Luan... breathe, you’re a grown vampire, you’re a count, you can’t murder your daughter’s husband. At least, not in front of her."

Although, of course, that didn’t stop him from fantasizing about hitting him a little for pure emotional therapy.

At least he had learned to control himself... more or less. Now he just clenched his fist so tightly that the servants secretly bet on how long it would take before he broke it in two.

At that moment, Luan heard his wife’s voice.

"Honey..." Liliana said in a tone so sweet it could melt a tombstone, "Why don’t you help Selene with her training? I heard that her powers have increased... and she can’t control them well."

As she spoke, Liliana gently massaged his shoulder.

Luan, who was lying on the sofa with the drama of a fallen hero, barely raised an eyebrow.

"Really...?" he muttered under his breath.

His wife nodded with an angelic smile. "Yes, dear. And I thought it might be an excellent opportunity for you," she added, with that diplomacy that only someone married for centuries could master. "You could... I don’t know, revive your spirit as a teacher so that Selene will look at you again."

"Although, come to think of it..." he added, straightening up a little, "It’s time to show my daughter how amazing her dad is and why the world knows him as King Frost."

Luan stands up, his body renewed, as is his mind; it’s time to go to his daughter and remind her how amazing he is.

Without further ado, he leaves the room with a smile.

...

"Why has my power suddenly increased?" Selene murmured, surprised, because it shouldn’t have happened.

’My next increase in power should last for many years,’ she put her hand on her chin, thoughtful, and thought about the reason for her increase in power.

"It’s normal that your powers have increased," a man’s voice is heard in the armored room.

Selene stops using her powers and looks at her father. "What do you mean it’s normal that my powers have increased?" she asks him, her expression cold.

Luan gives her a gentle smile: "My dear, you don’t know what you’ve gotten yourself into... to think that my little princess, who used to say she would marry me, would change so much." Memories of the past flooded his mind.

"... Dad, that’s not what I asked." She begins to get irritated; she doesn’t like it when her father avoids her questions. You want answers! It frustrates her, ’Tsk. Why did that mummy decide to take my darling to train?’ Her irritation only increased.

"Hahaha~" He laughs amusedly, "Maybe your father is too old and I get lost quickly."

"...Yes, I know," Selene rolled her eyes. At that moment, she remembers something: "Father, my mother told me that you are very close to Vlad, right? What caused his disappearance?"

"How do you know about Vlad the Vampire King?"

"Scarlet mentioned him." She doesn’t want to go into details; she’s too busy to explain everything.

"I don’t know," Luan said with a strange expression, and a memory from the past came to his mind... more specifically, 2000 years ago.

"Luan."

"Yes, my king," a much younger Luan observes, Vlad Dracula Tepes, whose face is shrouded in darkness, leaving only a pair of blood-red eyes visible.

They were on a vast battlefield, where it even seemed to be raining blood, and the cries of warriors filled the air.

"If I ever disappear, it’s because... &%$#$%&%$#$."

The younger, hot-blooded Luan does not understand the words of The King... the First Original—the Progenitor of all vampires.

Luan returns and looks at his daughter with a mysterious expression and says, "Perhaps ’his’ disappearance has something to do with my son-in-law."

"???" She frowned; they were very similar to Scarlet’s words, but with the difference that hers cannot be taken seriously, since she is crazy.

Seeing his daughter’s expression, Luan bursts out laughing: "Hahaha! Don’t overthink it, daughter; let’s start your training. You feel like your powers have increased, right?"

"..." Selene narrows her eyes, but when she sees her father’s annoying little smile that reveals nothing, she sighs resignedly and replies, "Yes."

"Excellent, let’s start training with the best father in the world," Luan said with a big smile on his face.

It was their father-daughter moment!
