My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World-Chapter 383: The Devils’ Escape
Chapter 383: The Devils’ Escape
When Melina arrived with all of her backups at The Pit, the Accursed Beasts quickly regrouped with the devils while our warriors kept trying to incapacitate the brainwashed soldiers.
However, Drakzen wasn’t an idiot, and he knew that they would lose if they kept fighting with us there, making him retreat with Baelzor and the Accursed Beasts.
The devils didn’t seem to care about leaving their soldiers behind. Still, after they caused so much trouble, we didn’t want to let them go that easily.
The power of my awakening had decreased, but I could still do some damage, and as I caught up with the devils and the beasts first, I cast a gravity spell that halted their movements momentarily.
In an instant, Melina rushed through the devils as electricity enveloped her body, but she wasn’t using her awakening.
*shink!* The sound of Melina’s blade echoed in our ears, followed by a gush of blood.
The princess was aiming for Baelzor, but her attack got blocked at the last second by the dark wyvern, who was in a humanoid form and got his arm severed trying to protect their master.
Suddenly, the hydra—also in their humanoid form— turned their head to look at me and opened their mouth, letting out a fire breath that came out with incredible force.
The beast’s attack made me take a step back, breaking the gravity spell on the group.
Melina went for another attack towards Baelzor, but it was Drakzen who stopped her this time, using his forearm to deflect her blade to the side.
"Hydra, do it!" Baelzor shouted.
Following his command, the Accursed Beast raised their arms, and a massive ball of energy started forming in the air.
’Uh, oh...’ I thought, feeling the demonic energy that accumulated to be pretty intimidating.
I had one second to think of a plan, as I could tell that the energy sphere that the hydra was casting would definitely blow up, and with that amount of demonic power, it was going to be a massive explosion.
’I see... He is sacrificing his soldiers to kill us,’ I pondered.
It was like time had slowed down, and putting the lives of my friends first on my priority list—I quickly boosted myself to grab Melina and get closer to the warriors and soldiers.
Luckily, even though we weren’t even close to matching the number of enemy soldiers, our warriors were all still alive, as they had been using the high ground from the mountain to their advantage.
In the final split of a second, the hydra let go of the sphere, and a bright light blinded us as the explosion detonated.
I cast a barrier spell large enough to cover the battlefield with the warriors and soldiers, but the wave of the explosion was too much for me to hold back.
Casting a barrier spell was already taxing enough on a person’s MP, which is why we didn’t use it often, as there were other ways to protect ourselves that didn’t spend our energy.
Moreover, making a barrier of that size and holding it in place for a few seconds to protect us from a massive explosion was incredibly draining on my MP.
As my hands trembled and my MP depleted quickly, I thought for a moment that I wouldn’t be able to hold it. Suddenly, Melina grabbed my shoulder, transferring more than half of her MP to me.
Thanks to her, the barrier held for the duration of the whole attack, and the warriors and soldiers hadn’t stopped fighting, which was expected considering they were brainwashed.
The devils and the Accursed Beasts were gone, but they left us with thousands of soldiers who were still trying to get to The Pit, even though it was in ruins and couldn’t be entered anymore.
We knocked out every single soldier, which took us a pretty long time since we weren’t trying to kill them.
The night was cold and windy, making us create a giant closed area with earth magic for people to get warmer.
The room we built was as big as a theater, and we still didn’t have that much space inside since there were thousands of tied-up soldiers.
We managed to heal a few of them, but we didn’t have enough of the new potions to cure three thousand soldiers.
Still, when we sent a voice message to Reinar and Jen, they replied by saying that they were already working on it.
Seeing that we couldn’t move to a different area until the soldiers were all cured, we decided to stay at the mountain’s foot.
It was risky since the devils already knew of this place, but if we could build good defenses and cure everyone, then we could fight them off again.
Melina and I didn’t sleep that night, along with our companions, who helped us raise a wall that started from the side of the mountain and encircled a small area.
We only had one giant building, so we quickly built a few different smaller ones for the warriors to use while the brainwashed soldiers stayed in the big one.
It took us the rest of the night and half of the next day to complete, but when we were done, we had a little village with a tall wall protecting it.
Apart from the giant building, we made ten more that were the size of typical homes and two slightly larger ones that could be used to treat wounded or sick people.
Still, we didn’t go to sleep afterward since Reinar and Jen, who were also working throughout the night, sent us a batch of potions to cure more of the soldiers.
We were going to be staying there for a few days until everyone was cured, but by the time we were finished, we would have a small village with all of the residents being soldiers with a grudge against the devils.
’We lost The Pit, but we gained three thousand soldiers... Not a terrible trade,’ I thought.
