My Wife is a Hidden Big Shot-Chapter 259 - 251: Goodbye, Madwoman
Alvin Morgan’s mind raced, replaying the lab’s floor plan over and over.
They were now very close to where the madwoman was being held. They just had to get through the corridor ahead to reach her.
But all the lights in this corridor were now extinguished, with only a dense web of red laser beams blocking their path.
Alvin had locked the door behind them, keeping the security guards outside from breaking in—for now.
"Aurora, the switch is up ahead. Once you press it, the system will take about ten seconds to reboot. Be extremely careful; don’t let the lasers touch you."
Aurora Sinclair nodded. She shed her heavy protective suit, revealing the tight, black combat gear underneath, and moved forward, as nimble as a swallow.
The seconds ticked by.
A furious roar erupted from behind Alvin Morgan.
The security guards outside were already attacking the door with their weapons.
Aurora Sinclair wasn’t slow; she was already two-thirds of the way there.
Alvin glanced at the trembling door, then ducked to the side and chambered a round.
With a loud BANG, the steel door was breached.
But at that exact moment, Aurora Sinclair hit the switch.
"Quick—"
Alvin sprinted forward, making it through just as the infrared corridor rebooted.
At the same time, the steel door was blasted open, and a hail of bullets flew toward them.
Alvin adjusted the permissions, and the infrared lasers immediately switched to active mode, firing at the charging security guards.
"AHH—"
"Fall back! Fall back—"
***
Ahead of them was what looked like a researchers’ lounge. Compared to the cold laboratory areas, this place felt more lived-in.
A soft carpet covered the floor, and sofas and massage chairs lined the sides for people to rest.
Only, there were no other researchers here now.
Relying on his memory, Alvin Morgan led Aurora Sinclair to the innermost room.
"This is it."
Aurora Sinclair scanned her watch over the access panel, and the door slid open slowly.
With a BANG, a bullet shot out from inside the room.
Aurora dodged it in a flash, her gaze turning grim.
Inside, Eugene Morgan was pressing a gun to the madwoman’s temple, his face grim as he stared at them.
The madwoman wore a special collar around her neck, flashing with a red light.
"The game ends here—"
"What do you think you’re doing?" Alvin Morgan demanded.
Eugene Morgan tossed a collar to Aurora Sinclair. "Put it on. You’re coming with me to meet someone."
Alvin immediately aimed his gun at Eugene’s forehead. "You dare—"
"Put it on—"
A gunshot rang out, a bullet striking the floor by the madwoman’s feet.
Aurora Sinclair watched the two brothers locked in a standoff, pursed her lips, and fastened the collar around her neck.
It was a micro-bomb. The moment the detonator was pressed, Aurora Sinclair would die instantly.
"Eugene Morgan—" Alvin Morgan roared, his eyes turning red. His usually calm face was now twisted with fury and resentment.
Eugene Morgan’s expression was perfectly serene. "I gave you two a chance, but you wouldn’t listen. So you’d better start cooperating, my dear brother."
"You..."
Under Eugene Morgan’s coercion, the pair was taken to a hidden laboratory.
The facilities inside were similar to what they had seen before, complete with Nutrition Repair Chambers and reinforced glass enclosures.
A blonde woman in a white lab coat was injecting a man inside one of the glass enclosures with some kind of liquid.
She had the typical features of someone from Crestland—blonde hair, blue eyes, and deep-set features. She was quite beautiful. Underneath the lab coat, she wore a slender dress and high heels.
Judging by her attire, she didn’t seem like a researcher.
"Y, it looks like you’ve brought them."
The woman’s voice was lovely, and an elegant smile played on her lips.
She looked young, apparently around the same age as Eugene Morgan.
"Hello. My name is Mary. A pleasure to meet you."
She tossed the syringe into a nearby yellow biohazard bin and pulled off her gloves, revealing slender, fair fingers. She had extended a hand, but Aurora Sinclair only watched her warily, not taking it.
Mary wasn’t offended. She retracted her hand, walked over to a sofa, and poured herself a cup of coffee, even getting one for the madwoman next to her.
She asked casually, "So these are the Super Soldier descendants you were talking about?"
The madwoman gave a wicked chuckle and nodded. "From the sound of the commotion, yes. But it’s a girl."
Alvin Morgan’s gaze sharpened, and he pulled Aurora Sinclair behind him. He couldn’t believe this madwoman would tell someone else about the Super Soldiers.
Mary sized up Aurora Sinclair with interest, then pointed to the man in the glass enclosure. "Fight my Knight. If you win, I’ll let you go."
Aurora Sinclair’s pupils constricted slightly. She patted Alvin Morgan’s arm and strode toward the glass enclosure.
***
The man in the enclosure was bare-chested, his body a mass of solid muscle.
A faint layer of "Power" enveloped him, containing an immense Strength.
He was the strongest man Aurora Sinclair had ever met, even more powerful than the one at The Eastern Highlands.
His speed was incredible; in the blink of an eye, he appeared right in front of her.
An iron-hard fist shot toward her abdomen.
Aurora Sinclair barely managed to dodge.
Data suddenly materialized on the outside of the glass enclosure, displaying the physical stats of the two fighters inside.
"This girl’s physique and explosive power are quite good," Mary commented lightly as she sipped her coffee, as if appraising a piece of merchandise.
The madwoman next to her couldn’t see, but she chimed in, "Descendants of Super Soldiers inherit all of their parents’ superior genes. When their power erupts, the activation rate of their ancestral genes can reach fifty percent."
A delighted look appeared in Mary’s eyes. "Doesn’t that make her the perfect test subject?"
"Exactly. Once her inner potential is fully unleashed, we can inject her with the anti-S Active Cells solution. Her Beast Gene will be completely suppressed, and her body will even develop an immunity..."
Their conversation filled Alvin Morgan with rage. Just as he was about to move, Eugene Morgan pressed the muzzle of a gun to the back of his head.
"If you don’t want her to die, don’t move."
Eugene Morgan pulled out a pair of handcuffs and cuffed Alvin Morgan. As his fingers brushed against the watch on Alvin’s wrist, his body stiffened for a moment.
It was the same watch he had given him all those years ago.
***
"Whitlock, get up and play some games. Do you really want to turn into a bookworm?"
"Just play for a while. How about I give you my watch?"
"I personally designed and commissioned this watch..."
"I’m heading out on a mission. Take care of things at home..."
***
Eugene Morgan slowly released his grip, turning his head to look at the enclosure.
Inside the enclosure, the girl’s hair was gradually turning silver, and the numbers on the display outside were skyrocketing.
CRACK—
The reinforced glass looked as if it were about to fracture.
Mary’s face was lit with surprised delight. "My heavens! A perfect Son of God..."
The madwoman, unable to see, asked anxiously, "What’s the ancestral gene activation rate now?"
"Eighty-six percent... and it’s still climbing..."
"Excellent! Quick, inject the anti-S Active Cells solution..."
Mary immediately pressed a button on the side. A row of injectors appeared at the top of the enclosure.
Darts filled with the drug shot toward Aurora Sinclair, but she was too fast; not a single one hit her.
"Damn it—"
Mary slammed her fist against the wall and frantically worked the controls again.
A large amount of anesthetic gas sprayed from the vents, but it had no effect on Aurora Sinclair.
Instead, it drew her attention. She threw a vicious punch straight at Mary.
The reinforced glass between them instantly developed a small crack from the inside.
Terrified, Mary stumbled back a few steps and hastily grabbed a nearby gun.
The corners of Alvin Morgan’s mouth slowly curled upward, a cruel glint in his eyes.
’If you open Pandora’s box, you have to suffer the consequences.’
With a tremendous BANG—
The reinforced glass shattered.
Mary fired immediately, but Aurora Sinclair dodged every shot, teleporting behind her and clamping a hand around her neck.
Eugene Morgan rushed forward to help, only to be sent flying into the glass enclosure with a single kick.
"Quick... inject... her..."
