Chapter 493: Chapter 218: Things have come to this, let’s eat first.
"Not good, Wayne was swallowed!"
The giant eagle spread its wings in the high sky, and Veronica looked down from above with an excellent view, realizing that Wayne had been engulfed in one gulp by the giant fly. White scales appeared on her arms and face as she leaped into the air, intending to dive down for the rescue.
Austin reached out and grabbed the back of Veronica’s collar, pulling her back to her place.
"???"
A string of question marks floated across Veronica’s forehead, as she didn’t even realize Austin was so strong.
These two bastards definitely had secrets!
"Don’t worry about him, the giant fly is just a container for Gluttony in the human world, not the true Lord of Gluttony. It’s not certain yet who will consume whom," Austin said nonchalantly, noticing his daughter’s urgency to save someone, and added sourly, "You and I can still resist the Divine Power emitted by the container without becoming puppets of desire. It shows that his thought process has always been there, pretending to be swallowed is all."
Veronica’s frown deepened, "Why can he ignore the Demon King’s container with his thought process, and even affect me... um, and you?"
Reading the diary hasn’t been for nothing, Veronica believed Wayne would protect himself, but as for protecting Austin, she herself didn’t believe it.
Wayne didn’t protect Austin; the latter resisted the Demon King’s container’s temptations with his own abilities.
Inexplicably, Veronica had the illusion that any one of the two social wastes could solve the devil problem below, because they were wary of each other, guarded against each other, and didn’t want to reveal their own cards before the other did, which is why the devil was able to chase and hit them.
One plus one equals zero. True to the Lando men, not at all reliable.
Austin understood Hefei very well, and by extension, he understood Veronica quite well too. Seeing her expression and with a pang of conscience, he defended his son, "I did not test Wayne, and he did not test me. The reluctance to go all out is because there’s still an enemy hidden in the dark, someone more dangerous than the devil because this person understands the Lando Family even better."
A trump card can’t be openly shown; the unknown breeds fear, and without the power to intimidate, it’s no longer a trump card.
Austin felt his trump card was stronger than Wayne’s, which is why he kept waiting for the other to make the first move. Also, his trump card couldn’t be shown openly. Once revealed, the family would essentially fall apart.
Veronica looked aggrieved, "You two are so alike... Is he really not your son?"
"Impossible, just rumors..."
Austin initially wanted to deny it, but halfway through his sentence, he changed his tone in a serious manner, "Veronica, since you’ve seen through it, I won’t hide it anymore. Correct, Wayne Lando is your half-brother from the same father."
"Liar."
Veronica punched Austin in the face with great force and gave it a twist.
Austin covered his nose, feeling powerless as his plan failed. It was clear to see the pit was too deep, and his daughter was beyond saving.
Below, the shadows summoned by Austin each did their duty, pairing up to suppress the Demon King’s container.
The two trump cards, the Naturalist Knight and the Dark Knight, were far stronger than the other knights, especially the Naturalist Knight, who was so strong he could even go one-on-one with the Familiar Gain.
The Naturalist Knight didn’t have the realm of the Legendary Mage and couldn’t cast the Life Force Field.
Familiar Gain was the same, its strength given by its master the Night Monarch, on par with the Legendary Mage, and even if dragged into the Life Force Field by the Legendary Mage, it could maintain an even fight.
Neither followed a conventional evolution path, one a Magic Creation, and the other very likely the same.
The Demon King’s container in the field was no different.
All sorts of fancy stuff, not a single ’normal person’ among them.
The mysterious figure lurking in the shadows was quite annoyed, agonizing over whether to show up and force Austin and Wayne to reveal their cards. After pondering for a moment, he chose to give up.
What if these two cards were too big for him to handle!
Just as he was thinking, the mysterious person noticed something odd about the surrounding space, shook his head with a sigh, and summoned Gain to prepare for a retreat.
The Demon King’s container and the Void Spawn were disposable tools. Once gone, they were gone. But Gain was different, a superb tool demon, needing to be reused time and again until worn out to maximize its value.
"Roarrrrr——"
Gain flapped its wings mightily, its body turning transparent and phased, evading the Naturalist Knight’s pursuit. Its wings waved continuously, pushing its speed to the limit as it rushed toward the edge of the Hell World’s Inverted Pentagram.
Austin narrowed his eyes slightly, a black light flashing in his pupils. At the edge of the world, the Dark Knight emerged from the shadows, his black cloak drawing in endless darkness, forcibly transforming the surrounding space into his domain.
Gain, in its semi-transparent bird form, hit the boundless darkness and, within it, came to know reality. No, it was in the presence of an existence even more illusory than it.
Innumerable black chains came from every direction, entwining and locking onto the serpentine neck and wings, leaving Gain to struggle helplessly, forever unable to escape from this space.
The mysterious person inwardly cursed the difficulty, acknowledging that Austin’s two cards, one offensive and the other defensive, with the Naturalist Knight’s incredible combat power and the Dark Knight’s invincible defense, meant taking action was urgent if the valuable employee was to be saved.
Fortunately, it was no big issue as he wasn’t completely unprepared.
The Book of Hell, stitched inside Gain, slowly opened, triggering a pre-written Seven Deadly Sins Melody, consuming its life force to buff Gain with immense power.
Second stage transformation.
Gain let out a pained cry as another pair of black wings sprouted from its back, two more serpent-necked bird heads extending as the hellish bird evolved from its complete form into its Ultimate Form.
As it propelled itself into the air, the chains binding it were violently torn apart.
The Dark Knight stood his ground, raising his hands and unraveling the endless darkness, lunging at the monstrous bird.
Gain was reluctant to linger, speed its advantage, as it folded its wings and returned to the center of the battlefield, charging the spatial barrier from a different direction.
