Naruto: Chronicles of a Fire Ninja-Chapter 399 - 394: Worth a try
Chapter 399 - 394: Worth a try
"No commander, I have discussed it with quite a few ninja, all of us having the same problem at the same time can barely be attributed to imagination," Shisui said.
"Fine, I will look into the matter. You go and take some rest," he said, ready to call a few elite jonin to look into the issue when he saw Juro fidgeting like he had something he wanted to say but couldn't do so for some reason.
"Do you have something more to report?" he asked.
Shisui, acting like he was caught off guard, shook his head, then with reluctance he nodded, before looking toward the side wall, like he was looking toward the room next to the office.
Onishi also looked toward there.
'Do we have a spy?' a thought crossed his mind before he looked toward Shisui again, only to find two dark red eyes looking back toward him, with a beautiful shape rotating inside them, suggesting the activation of Mangekyo Sharingan.
As soon as he saw those eyes, he closed his eyes, even before his brain could process what happened. He was about to disperse his chakra, without even thinking, just out of pure reflex and instinct.
But he had already made the mistake of looking in those eyes. His instinct and reflexes failed him for a second, creating a gap between when his brain could understand what was happening and open his eyes or do something to protect himself.
In that single second, a kunai slowly, ruthlessly, mercilessly sliced through his throat in one clean strike. The fire chakra in the kunai working in tandem with the strength to cleanly cut through the bones like it was butter. The elite jonin with enough power to tackle 3-4 ninja of his level alone found his end in such a lackluster way without even getting a chance to show why he was the commander of the outpost.
Who was Onishi Iwakura, an elite jonin from Iwa? Yes, but that in itself was not enough to be the commander of an outpost. He had enough strength to rival a squad consisted of only elite jonin alone, being S rank in defense.
Even though he was not as famous as Shisui and Kakashi, he did have his fair share of fame, known for the moniker - The Unshakable Wall of Iwa. When Shisui got the memory about the commander of the outpost from Juro, he was especially worried about him.
It was not that he couldn't defeat him, he could for sure, but it would take time - time which would be of essence when the attack started. So he had to eliminate him before the start of the mission, which gave rise to another problem: now he had to kill him without notifying anyone near him.
The reason Shisui went with this whole act was to divert Onishi's attention enough that he would need a little time to react to his attack, which he was successful in doing, resulting in the dead body of Onishi lying on the table. While he removed the carpet to get the clear view of the center of the whole array surrounding the base, with it in front of him, Shisui sent a signal to his team to begin the operation, while he waited for just the right amount of time.
A few seconds after he gave the signal, a large explosion happened at the entrance of the outpost. Taking that as a cue, he also activated the tens of explosion tags the commander gave him graciously at the focal point of array before teleporting away from the room altogether.
In the next second, the commander's room of the Iwa outpost blew into smithereens, a deafening sound along with tremors passing through the whole outpost.
The ninja who were not alerted by the explosion at the gate were now rushing out of their rooms toward different locations, some of them making their way toward the entrance, while many went toward the commander's office because the sensor and fuinjutsu seal master among them could feel the array which was protecting them until now flickering, like it was on the verge of destruction. freeweɓnovel.cѳm
As soon as Shisui flickered out of the room, an elite jonin who was also second in command at the outpost came out of his office seeing Shisui, who was still in Juro form, backing away from the explosion. Shisui also noticed his presence, acting like he had also just arrived and was shocked seeing what was happening in front of him.
"What happened?" the ninja asked, flickering toward Shisui's direction. Since the fire from the explosion was still raging, he couldn't go inside to check, so he inquired to the ninja already present there.
"I... I don't know sir, when I came here I saw someone entering commander's office with him and suddenly this blast happened." Shisui's acting was so perfect that even if Renjiro himself was present there, he would have believed Shisui to be an Iwa Jonin rather than an Uchiha.
"You mean commander is still inside?" the Jonin asked, panic and dread filling his mind.
"Yes sir, I didn't see him leave the office till now."
"Then we have to save him," the ninja said, turned toward the office and started weaving hand signs, which Shisui could easily identify as a C-rank water release jutsu: Water Bowl.
As soon as he completed the hand signs, water started coming out of his hand like it was a water pipe, effectively dousing off the fire.
But suddenly a kunai pierced his neck when he was busy with his jutsu. Since he had left his back to a jonin, he was focusing solely on the fire; even when he felt Shisui coming toward him, he just thought he was trying to help him with fire. Not in his wildest dreams had he imagined that he would get such an unexpectedly lethal strike at his neck.
With surgical precision, the strike landed flawlessly, leaving him no chance to utter a sound. Yet, even in his final moments, a sliver of life remained—just enough for one desperate counterattack, a last-ditch effort to drag his killer down with him.
Though to his dismay, the killer dodged the attack before it was even released. An earth spear appeared at the killer's location a few milliseconds too late. With the last of his life, he turned to see the face of his killer only to find two red eyes looking back toward him.
'Konoha...?' With a question still in his mind, he took his final breath. Yet once again, a ninja fell to Shisui's hands without even having a chance to retaliate.
But he seemed to have delayed Shisui enough to do some damage.
Two more elite jonin came out of their office by then. Seeing their comrade looking toward one of their own ninja with deep hatred, and with a hole in his neck, it didn't take them a second to realize what may have happened.
Shisui still tried to salvage the situation.
"Thank god sir you arrived, this person suddenly came out of commander's office, after that explosion..." Even before he could complete his sentence, two earth bullets and one earth spear came crashing at his location.
'Well, it was worth a try.'
