The peaceful days passed one by one. It was getting a bit boring—nothing major was happening in the entire Seireitei, it was like a stagnant pond.
As usual, Shin was lazing around in the Second Division barracks, leaving all the work to his Shadow Clones.
"Huh, why did you bring a little girl back with you?"
As Yoruichi pushed the door open and walked in, Shin's gaze shifted to the little girl trailing behind her.
"I'm not a little girl," the girl retorted upon hearing Shin's words.
"Haha, then what are you, if not a little girl?" Shin asked with a laugh.
"Shin, don't you dare bully Soi Fon," Yoruichi said, rolling her eyes at him.
Soi Fon, who had admired Yoruichi since childhood, would later become the captain of the Second Division.
"Relax, how could I bully such a cute little thing? I have a soft spot for children, you know. You can rest easy on that, Yoruichi."
Shin instantly appeared behind Soi Fon, patting her little head. She was indeed adorable, even cuter than Yoruichi had been as a child. But then he remembered that even when Soi Fon grew up, she would still be short and... flat. Shin couldn't help but sigh internally.
"So fast... When did you?" Soi Fon turned around warily, looking at Shin. She hadn't even noticed how he had gotten behind her. Was this the power of a captain?
"I'm not an enemy. You don't have to be so guarded, little Soi Fon," Shin said, patting her head again.
"No, Soi Fon, you have to be very careful with him," Yoruichi said to her.
"Yes, Lady Yoruichi, I understand." Soi Fon looked at Shin with extreme caution, her eyes even holding a hint of disdain.
"Did you say something bad about me to her? Why is she looking at me with such contempt?" Shin glanced at Yoruichi and asked.
He was now one hundred percent certain that Yoruichi had been badmouthing him to Soi Fon. Just look at the wary little glare she was giving him.
"No, I haven't said anything bad about you to Soi Fon." Yoruichi denied it outright. From her expression, you couldn't tell anything was amiss.
"Heh, I don't believe you. Little Soi Fon, tell me how Yoruichi has been slandering me. If you tell me, I'll give you candy."
Shin crouched down, holding out a piece of candy to tempt her.
"Lady Yoruichi was right. You really aren't a good person."
Soi Fon's aversion to Shin only grew. To be honest, when she first saw him, she didn't have much ill will towards him. After all, he was handsome. But then she remembered what Lady Yoruichi had said, and she immediately suppressed the flicker of goodwill she felt for him.
'Where do you see that I'm not a good person? She might be cute, but her personality isn't cute at all.'
Shin immediately lost interest in Soi Fon. He didn't know what Yoruichi had said to make her so wary of him.
He shot a look at Yoruichi. She didn't know what his gaze meant, but she felt a sense of foreboding. It felt like Shin could target her at any moment. No, she had to be careful, lest he find a reason to teach her a lesson.
In reality, if Shin wanted to find a reason, he could find one easily.
Like right now.
"Yoruichi, you're not a very qualified vice-captain. Look at this report you submitted—it's full of mistakes. Go copy the Second Division regulations a hundred times."
Yoruichi's mouth twitched. She looked at the smiling Shin, feeling that he was deliberately retaliating. She glanced at the document. There were a few minor errors, but they were nothing worth mentioning. It was obvious Shin was just making a mountain out of a molehill.
What were the Second Division regulations?
Rule Number One: Whatever the captain says is right. It is an honor to listen to the captain, and a disgrace to refute him.
Of course, the regulations weren't like this before, but Shin had later changed them.
"Oh, and you'd better not let me catch you having someone else do it for you. Otherwise..." Shin added with a smile, glancing pointedly at Soi Fon. Knowing Yoruichi, she might just shamelessly ask Soi Fon for help.
"YOU'RE DOING THIS OUT OF SPITE."
"Spite? You're slandering your captain. The consequences are severe. Hand in five hundred copies of the regulations by tomorrow, or you'll face a heavy price. I'm sure you wouldn't want to pay it."
Shin said, cracking his knuckles as he looked at Yoruichi.
In the end, Yoruichi gave in. There was no other choice. Otherwise, as Shin said, the consequences would be severe.
"Making you copy them as punishment isn't the point. The point is to make you understand that the captain is always right."
Shin pointed to the large characters hanging on the wall. Yes, he had written them down and hung them up for all to see.
"HOW COULD YOU! YOU'RE BULLYING LADY YORUICHI! I'LL FIGHT YOU!"
Soi Fon angrily swung her little fists at Shin, but he caught them, pulled her aside, and gave her a spanking.
"Pa! Pa! Pa!"
"Children should behave. Don't cause trouble, or don't blame me for getting rough," Shin said to Soi Fon with a faint smile.
Soi Fon fought back tears, thinking to herself, 'You're already being rough with me.'
"Remember to hand it in..." Shin said, glancing at Yoruichi again.
Yoruichi's face suddenly broke into a smile, and she walked over to Shin.
"Captain, my dear captain, do you think you could be a little lenient and let me off this once?"
Yoruichi came to his side with a fawning expression, giving him a shoulder massage, which left Soi Fon completely dumbfounded.
Was this the Lady Yoruichi she admired so much? The adoration she felt for her vanished into thin air. Well, not completely, but at least half of it was gone. The Lady Yoruichi in her heart would never yield, but now, reality had shown her that her idealized image was wrong.
"Not bad. Alright, I'll let you write four hundred fewer copies," Shin said to Yoruichi, satisfied.
Yoruichi's face darkened, and she looked at Shin with a grim expression.
"What, are you not satisfied? It's fine, if you're not happy, you can just say so."
"Would it even make a difference?" Yoruichi asked with a deadpan expression.
"It wouldn't, but at least you can say it. It's better than bottling it up, right?" Shin said with a smile.
"I think if I said anything, you'd just come down on me even harder," Yoruichi said, indicating that she had already seen through Shin.
