Netori Harem: New life as a hunter and gatherer-Chapter 90: Delicious
Wasn’t it surprising that despite living here for so long, Roxanne had never known about the river hidden deep within the forest?
The place he brought her to was so beautiful that she found herself speechless for a few moments.
The sound of the flowing river was calm and soothing. Fish glided beneath the surface, visible through the crystal-clear water. Small rocks beneath the stream shimmered under sunlight that slipped through the dark clouds above.
She couldn’t help but sigh. "This... is incredible. How did you find this?"
Luke shrugged. "I recently escorted someone to a neighboring village. That’s when I came across it."
Since dangerous beasts roamed the area at night, travelers rarely used this route, which explained why Roxanne had never been here before.
She rarely left the village, except to visit her hometown or the head tribe.
So yes, this was the first time she had witnessed something this breathtaking.
Roxanne let out a soft sigh. "If only I had known a place this beautiful existed so close to our village."
Suddenly, to her surprise, a pair of strong arms lifted her.
She yelped, turning her head, only to find Luke grinning down at her. He was no longer wearing his shirt.
Her eyes widened in realization. "Luke... no..."
Luke paid no attention to her plea. Taking a few quick steps, he leapt forward, and they plunged into the stream with a loud splash.
Cold water enveloped her, soaking through her dress.
She squeezed her eyes shut as she dipped beneath the surface for a moment in his arms before he lifted her back up.
Roxanne slowly opened her eyes, brushing her wet hair aside.
She stared at Luke, eyes wide. "Why did you do this?"
She lowered herself until her feet touched the riverbed.
Luke chuckled. "I knew you wouldn’t have jumped in if I had asked nicely. So I used my privilege as a mischievous young man to be a little shameless."
Roxanne rolled her eyes and glanced down at herself. Her dress was completely soaked, her hair clinging to her skin.
She had just bathed before coming to meet him, and now... how would she return home? What if her mate saw her like this?
"Hey," Luke whispered suddenly near her ear, "why are you overthinking it? Didn’t I tell you? When you’re with me, just think about yourself."
Roxanne looked at him, her eyes round.
The way he gazed at her, warm and playful, melted the tension inside her in an instant.
Roxanne held his gaze for a moment longer, something quiet shifting behind her eyes. Then, as if to break whatever had begun to form, she splashed a handful of water straight at his face.
Luke blinked as the water hit him, caught off guard for a brief second before a slow grin spread across his lips. "So that’s how it is?"
Before she could step back, he returned the attack, sending a wave of water crashing toward her.
Roxanne gasped as it struck her, stumbling slightly before laughter spilled from her lips, light and unrestrained.
"Luke!"
"You started it," he replied, already moving closer.
She tried to retreat, but the stones beneath the water were uneven. Her foot slipped.
In an instant, his arms were around her.
A strong grip around her waist
He pulled her into him before she could fall, one hand settling at her waist while the other steadied her back.
The laughter between them faltered, thinning into something quieter.
For a moment, neither of them moved.
Roxanne’s breath hitched faintly. Her hands, which had reached out to balance herself, now rested against his chest. She could feel the steady rise and fall beneath her palms, the warmth of his skin contrasting with the cold water around them.
"I had you," Luke said softly, his voice lower now.
"I wasn’t going to fall," she replied, but there was no bite to it.
"Of course."
He didn’t let go.
Her eyes lifted to meet his, and this time, neither of them looked away.
The playfulness lingered, but something else had begun to weave through it.
Roxanne swallowed lightly. "You’re still holding me."
"You’re still not moving away."
Her fingers curled slightly against his chest at that, her pulse quickening at how easily he said it.
"Maybe I just haven’t decided yet," she murmured.
Luke’s gaze dipped, just for a fraction of a second, to her lips before returning to her eyes. The shift was subtle, but she caught it.
And it made her breath unsteady.
A small ripple passed through the water as she shifted her footing, but she didn’t step back. Instead, she found herself closer, her body brushing against his more than before.
The space between them shrank.
"Roxanne," he said, her name quieter now, almost careful.
She felt it. That change.
The teasing had thinned into something sharper, something that made her chest feel tight and warm all at once.
Her thoughts tried to rise. Her mate. Her home. What this meant.
But they felt distant. Too little of concern.
Right now, all she could focus on was him. The way his hands rested on her, steady and a little possessive. The way his gaze held hers, heated and wanting.
"If I step back," she whispered, "will you let me go?"
Luke didn’t answer immediately.
His thumb shifted slightly against her side, a small, absent motion that sent a quiet shiver through her.
"...Do you want me to?"
Roxanne parted her lips, but no answer came.
Because she didn’t.
The realization settled slowly, then all at once.
Her fingers tightened against his chest as if grounding herself, her eyes flickering between his.
"Then don’t," she said, barely above a whisper.
Something in his expression softened, and that last fragile thread of hesitation snapped.
He moved first, but not abruptly.
Slowly and carefully. As if giving her time to stop him.
Roxanne didn’t.
Her breath mingled with his as the distance between them disappeared, her eyes slipping closed just as his lips brushed against hers.
For a heartbeat, it was nothing more than a touch.
Then it deepened.
Her hand shifted, sliding from his chest to his shoulder as she leaned into him, the cold water forgotten, the world around them fading into a quiet blur.
His lips pressed more firmly against hers, the initial softness giving way to raw hunger.
Roxanne parted her lips on a soft moan, inviting him in, and he took the invitation without hesitation.
Their tongues met, swirling together in a slow, heated dance that sent sparks racing through her veins. The first time, she was overwhelmed with several emotions. Guilt, grief, excitement.
But right now, her heart was all about him.
The kiss grew deeper, more urgent, wet and demanding as they explored each other with growing desperation.
His hand cupped the back of her neck, tilting her head to claim her mouth more thoroughly, while her fingers dug into his shoulder, pulling him impossibly closer.
The cool river water lapped around their bodies, but the heat building between them burned hotter than any sun.
She could taste the faint salt of his skin mixed with the fresh rush of the current, and it only made her want more.
Without breaking the kiss, he slid his arms around her waist, his strong hands gripping her firmly. In one smooth motion, he lifted her up, the water splashing lightly as her body left the riverbed.
Roxanne gasped into his mouth but didn’t pull away. Instead, her legs wrapped around his waist instinctively, locking tight at the small of his back as she pressed herself flush against him.
The new position brought them even closer, her breasts crushed to his chest, her core aligned with the hard evidence of his arousal straining against the wet fabric between them.
He groaned low in his throat, the sound vibrating through her as their tongues continued to tangle, slick and fervent.
One of his hands slid down to grip her ass, holding her securely as he deepened the kiss further, devouring her with every stroke and tease of his tongue.
Roxanne rocked against him gently, the friction sending jolts of pleasure through her body, her nipples tightening into sensitive peaks that rubbed deliciously against him with every shift.
The world narrowed to nothing but the slick slide of their mouths, the warmth of his skin against hers, and the steady thrum of desire pulsing between her thighs. A sensation she herself couldn’t understand.
She kissed him back just as passionately, her fingers threading through his wet hair, tugging lightly as she lost herself in the intoxicating rhythm of their bodies moving together in the gently flowing river.
Just when, his fingers reached the outline of her sex, she trembled and pulled back.
They locked eyes before Roxanne said, "L-Let’s stop here."
Luke grinned...well, she wasn’t going to submit this easily. No worries, the longer it takes to prepare, the tastier the dish comes out.
