New World with Four Husbands-Chapter 254: A raven’s pair quest [11]
Chapter 254: A raven’s pair quest [11]
Coco and Alithe found themselves standing on the roof of a house, the expansive surface much larger than a normal roof.
It was obvious that the resident of this house was not of average size, the space clearly designed to accommodate something considerably much larger than a normal human— something like the monsters they encountered eaelier.
The roof was smooth and flat, made from a dark, smooth material that was quiet to walk on.
Coco and Alithe hid from sight in the shadows of the house’s roof, watching as the rabbits gathered in the middle of the town below.
The rabbits’ forms were clearly visible from this height, their large bodies gathered in the middle of the street as if attending a meeting, each of them had their ears twitching as they seemed immersed in what they were talking about with each other.
"Danger."
"Mate."
"Babies."
"Humans."
"Food."
"Feed."
The monsters continued to chatter amongst themselves, their words barely loud, but loud enough for Coco to catch a few words thrown in the air.
Coco’s gaze darted from rabbit to rabbit, her eyes scanning the monsters’ movements with a keen intensity.
The townsfolk were nowhere to be seen, the only living beings present being the rabbits, and it was clear for Coco that the previous townsfolk were subdued by the monsters.
Coco frowned, but she was focused, her senses alert, as she watched the rabbits below them.
The different colored monsters were oblivious to their presence, that much is obvious, their attention completely fixated on one another.
Alithe was crouching beside her, his body tense with anticipation.
He was watching the scene below them with a mixture of fear and fascination, his eyes glued to the large bunnies, his mind filled with questions whether his pair managed to survive for the past days of being held captive or..
No. Alithe quickly shook his head to get rid of the negative thoughts, his hands clenching into fists.
Don’t think like that. He scolded himself, feeling agitated.
Coco, on the other hand, shifted her attention back to the scroll floating before her eyes, its surface shimmering faintly in the moonlight.
After a moment of rereading the quest detail for the who knows how many times, she turned away from the farming rabbits and turned to the hybrid man beside her, she tapped his arm lightly and signaled for Alithe to follow her.
He nodded, his gaze lingering on the rabbits, before his attention snapped to her, understanding the silent command.
He quickly followed behind Coco, keeping close to her side as they moved away from the edge of the roof, their steps cautious as they navigated across the cobblestone surface.
They moved carefully, their eyes fixed on the surrounding area, wary of detection, with their path taking them further and further away from the edge, until their view of the rabbits was obstructed by the bulk of the roofs of other houses.
Coco stopped at the farthest edge of the roof, her fingers gently tapping on the cobblestones beneath her feet.
A moment later, a vine slowly emerged, its slender tendrils emerging from between the cobblestones and taking on a serpentine shape.
It hovered in front of her for a moment before it took the form of words, a question appearing in the air in front of her.
Do you know where your pair is located?
The vine shimmered, its form coiling slightly as it turned in Alithe’s direction, the words shining brightly in the darkness.
Alithe’s eyes widened in surprise as he read the question, his gaze flickering between the words and its source, the vine hovering in the air.
Alithe nodded slowly, his head bobbing up and down in a wordless affirmation.
Coco tapped the vine and the vine shimmered once more, the words shifting to read another question.
Can you lead us there?
Alithe nodded his head again, his expression firm and serious because despite his initial surprise to see Coco use a mere vine to communicate with him, he had to compose himself.
They had come here for a reason, and now they have to finish the mission, to find his pair.
Coco nodded her head in acknowledgement and tapped the vine once more, signaling the green tendril that she was satisfied.
The vine shimmered and shrank, its form quickly disappearing into the cobblestones.
Alithe’s gaze flicked between the spot where the vine had disappeared and Coco, his expression a mix of relief and anticipation.
He may have ignored and kept silent about her ability to summon such a thing, but he still can’t stop himself from wondering on how strong the woman beside him is, especially when she had been nothing, but reliable ever since they left the village.
Shaking his head, Alithe moved closer to the edge, his gaze fixed on a spot behind the house of the roof, his hand pointing downward to a space behind the house they were on.
Coco watched him, her eyebrow raised.
The space he was pointing at seemed like an unlikely path to their destination, but clearly Alithe had a reason for choosing this route.
Coco trusted his judgment enough to follow his lead, even if it felt risky.
Coco nodded her head and tapped the edge of the roof, and once again, a vine shot up, forming a question.
Do we have to walk?
Alithe paused and stared at the vines, thinking for a moment, considering the question.
His instinct was telling him to say no, but he knew the journey to where he could sense his pair was had some distance.
So, he nodded slowly, a hint of hesitation in his expression, signaling that.. Yes, unfortunately, they had to walk.
Coco nodded once more, seemingly unbothered, and tapped the edge of the roof, and another vine shot up, but this one was noticeably thicker and more solid than the previous one.
Coco gently patted the first vine, and it shifted again, the question changing to read.
Get on. We’ll use this baby to get there.
