Nightmare Assault-Chapter 480: Staying Over

“Where should we go next?” Yu Yu looked around nervously. Everyone had a suspicion about whether Kui Yi was still alive. This place was different from their world. The place was too quiet. Ever since they left the room, Du Feng was the only person they had encountered. Unfortunately, he died.

Jiang Cheng looked down the other direction. Du Feng first ran from over there. He ran the other way when he saw them.

It was pointless to say anything else. Jiang Cheng walked down the corridor. Lin Wan ‘Er followed him naturally. The others, as unwilling as they looked, moved to follow. They were definitely not going back alone. Who knew if they’d run into the thing that murdered Du Feng?

Du Feng’s corpse was abandoned inside the elevator. Jiang Cheng shoved the head back into Du Feng’s hands. The only thing he could do was to close the man’s eyes. Soon, his body would disappear like Lee Kaifeng.

Weiwei felt unsettled as she watched Du Feng’s body. He was the only person she was familiar with. He died just like that. Even though they had understood this world in a rudimentary way, the fear didn’t explode until someone familiar died before their eyes.

This time, the group didn’t take long to find another person. It was Kui Yi. However, Jiang Cheng and Kui Yi stared at each other from a distance. At the same time, the others didn’t show joy. Instead, they took two steps back and glanced behind them. They were looking for the exit. The line between the real world and the ghost world blurred.

When Kui Yi showed up, they assumed he was a ghost.

“Du Feng is dead.” Jiang Cheng pointed at the blood on his clothes. “He died in the elevator. His head fell off.”

Then, Kui Yi walked over.

On the way back, the atmosphere was awkward. Perhaps she saw Du Feng die, Weiwei’s eyes were wet.

They returned to Room 209. The strange thing was that once they closed the door, the world outside came to life again. People started moving in the corridors. A random woman was shouting in a nearby room. The rain pattered on the window. It felt like the hospital had come back to life.

Kui Yi sat down and sighed. He was finally saved.

“Thank you, everyone.” Kui Yi stood up and thanked them sincerely. However, other than Jiang Cheng and Lin Wan ‘Er, the others looked awkward. Their initial intention was to abandon Du Feng and Kui Yi. Thankfully, Jiang Cheng and Lin Wan ‘Er didn’t expose them. The reunion was quite lovely.

When he heard that the issue was with the phone, Kui Yi walked to the bedside table. Jiang Cheng had moved the table away. The exposed wires at the back explained everything.

Regret appeared on Kui Yi’s face. As careful as he was, he fell for the trap.

“Mr Jiang.” Kui Yi turned to Jiang Cheng and asked politely, “Do you have any suggestions about what we should do next?”

“We need to confirm the identity of the woman inside Room 624.” Jiang Cheng thought about it. “She was hospitalised more than a year ago. When she died, she was pregnant. And the child…” Jiang Cheng paused to look at Kui Yi. “Who was the father? Was it one of the three dead men or was it someone else?”

Kui Yi shook his head. “I don’t think things are that simple.” He looked at Jiang Cheng. His lips moved. “We have forgotten someone.”

“Director Qi.” Jiang Cheng looked out the window. Kui Yi nodded.

Cao Yang asked, “Do you suspect… the child was between the woman and Director Qi?”

“That can’t be.” Yu Yu disagreed. “Based on the files, Director Qi didn’t have any reason to go to Room 624 when the woman was here. Plus, back then, he was just a new intern. If the child were his, then he should be the woman’s lover. After the woman became…” Yu Yu wanted to say a ghost, but she stopped herself. She changed a term. “Those things. She wouldn’t harm Director Qi. Why would he be so scared?”

“Since Blind Zheng could approach the woman, I’m sure Director Qi had his way. Plus, his workstation was close to Room 624. There was plenty of chance.

“As for your second question.” Jiang Cheng answered, “Director Qi is adamant on having this ghost removed. He is definitely hiding something.”

That was all the clues they had. Jiang Cheng originally planned to return to Room 604 and see if the crazy nurse from Room 906 would return. However, night had arrived. Du Feng had just been killed. To be safe, he decided to stay with the rest. The group discussed the night shift. Kui Yi suggested that a pair share one shift. He and Cao Yang would take the first shift. The second shift would be given to Jiang Cheng.

Jiang Cheng purposely avoided Lin Wan ‘Er’s gaze and chose the saddened Weiwei to accompany him. They lost two people in one day. That didn’t count Blind Zheng and the security guard, who might be dead.

Jiang Cheng lay down and watched the ceiling. His brain tried to fit the pieces together. The ghost gave him a strange feeling. He thought he knew the ghost’s background, but new clues kept changing his mind. No matter how he analysed the situation, there would be things that didn’t make sense… Especially the ghost’s attitude towards Director Qi.

Director Qi wanted the ghost gone as soon as possible. Technically, the feeling should be mutual. But… if the ghost really hated him, why did she allow him to survive until now?

The three men had their heads removed from their bodies soon after the incident at Room 624. Why was Director Qi spared?

Jiang Cheng didn’t think it was because the ghost couldn’t touch him. If Director Qi were that capable, he wouldn’t have hired them…
